Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference. Frost stands in the woods, considering a fork in the road. Both the ways are equally worn and equally overlaid with un-trodden leaves. He chooses one, the insistence of a single decision that can transform a life. The poem masquerades as a meditation about choice. The lonely path is dark and eerie, but the adamant frost inside us, leads to a boulevard where we are pushing people away and, are too prideful to ask for help. I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known Dont know where it goes, but its home to me, and I walk alone. Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, was a song that soared millions of stories. I listened to this as a teenager not understanding the lyrics fully. Green Day targets the stigma around mental health and how lonely someone can feel in the world we live in today. You may put on a mask and act like everything is alright but when the city goes to sleep, you know how lonely and how much help you need. Im walking down the line that divides me somewhere in my mind Check my vital signs, to know Im still alive, and I walk alone. Often finding it hard with people, one decides to walk alone, and hope that someone finds you. A hand that reaches out and pulls you out of all your miseries, but then you are too scared to trust again. In the inevitable loop of solacit, troubled by your existence, the song sings more about realisation. Lost amidst the lights and noise of the streets, filled with melancholy. 8 Mile Director : Curtis Hanson . A young rapper, struggling with every aspect of his life, wants to make it big but his friends and foes make this odyssey of rap harder than it may seem. . I enjoyed this movie immensely. I thought it was a departure from the typical movies that star Hip-hop artists nowadays, which typically glorify the hip-hop lifestyle. Which is a very material lifestyle. This movie was pretty dark. I thought Eminem did a good job acting. I mean hes not going to win any Oscars for this role, but he does a very good job acting. If not for who he is, then you wouldnt pay too much attention to his acting because thats how competent he does. As most of you already have heard, this movie was based on Eminems life, but none of the events are actually factual. His relationship with his mother (Basinger) is much more amiable than it is in real life, or at least how it comes across in his music. Brittany Murphy acts as his love interest, but most importantly his muse. There are some scenes that leave you scratching your head. One of which is the Eminem-Murphy love scene in the plant. It seems out of place and bad for the pacing of the film. Also Taryn Mannings role as the ex-girlfriend is almost unnecessary. The presence of her character is a key plot element that sets up the film, but the appearance of her character in the film by its end seems unnecessary due to the fact that it is underdeveloped. I wonder if there were more scenes involving Manning that were ultimately deleted via editing. Overall I enjoyed the movie. Some may not enjoy it as much, but thats probably because they go into the movie with different expectations. It also wouldn’t be particularly uncommon to imagine a man as the one in this position. ⁠ ⁠ But, as Catholics, we can take one look at the teachings of the Church and another at the history of female saints, and it is clear that holy, virtuous leadership often doesn’t even look like what it’s described as above. ⁠ ⁠ Being a leader doesnt necessarily entail grand gestures and large audiences. Standing up for the dignity of life isnt (and honestly shouldnt be) glamorous work. ⁠ ⁠ And being a leader and a defender of life are not roles that are exclusive to men, even though men and women may live out these roles differently, according to their own unique gifts and dispositions. ⁠ ⁠ COURAGE — the virtue at the heart of the lead and protect categories — starts in the ordinary moments of our lives. ⁠ ⁠ And it is in those moments when we choose to practice courage —⁠ when we speak up even if it’s uncomfortable to do so,⁠ when we see a need and try our best to meet it, ⁠ when we invite others in, especially those who are often left on the margins ⁠ — that we prove ourselves to be leaders and protectors of one another, perhaps without even realizing it. ⁠ ⁠ It is in each of these little ways that we carry out the Gospel call to love God and to love one another. ⁠ ⁠ So if youre a leader in your community, ⁠ if you have a passion for defending and protecting the dignity of others, ⁠ we would love to hear your story of faith and witness. ⁠ ⁠ Would you consider sharing some of your story and writing a letter for the protect or lead category? ⁠ ⁠ To learn how to write a letter in time for the September 30th deadline, click on the link in our bio. - @thecatholicwoman on Instagram
