The parcel where the Historic Twelfth Baptist Church once stood is now home to a new six-story apartment building known as Melnea Residences. “As a developer, I knew I had a responsibility to celebrate the rich soil and history that our apartment building stands on, said Kamran Zahedi, president of Urbanica, Inc. who developed Melnea Residences and commissioned the work to Gibbs through Black Market. I wanted to not only mark the Kings’ love story, but also this neighborhood where they lived and fell in love.” The mural, entitled “Roxbury Love Story” conceived by Kai Grant and the curation team at Black Market and produced by critically acclaimed muralist Robb “ProBlak” Gibbs, will be unveiled at 680 Shawmut Avenue, the former address of Twelfth Baptist Church where King preached as an assistant minister while pursuing graduate studies from 1951 to 1954. -The press briefing and mural unveil is slated for Friday, September 25, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the corner of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Shawmut Avenue. One of two plaques tell the story of how the Boston University graduate divinity student met conservatory music student Coretta Scott on a blind date, drove her in his green Chevy to a Massachusetts Avenue restaurant and was instantly smitten. The State Bank of India building on the historic Street of Chandni Chowk is a grade A category building. Over the years various adhoc alterations, additions were carried out on the building, disfiguring its historic character. Discussions between INTACH Delhi Chapter and SBI resulted in an agreement in 2002 to restore the façade of the building. The conservation project was divided into phases and work commenced towards the end of 2003 and was completed in March 2004. The façade restoration, though a small step, was a step in the right direction towards the conservation of Chandni Chowk. This conservation project lead to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to issue letters to other bank buildings on the street to follow suit. . . . . In @nytimes today. Dozens of Detroit youth gathered to work on a street mural designed by artist Hubert Massey reading “Power to the People” along Woodward Ave. in Detroit, Michigan on June 17, 2020. Students from Detroit Public Schools and youth from Detroit Heals Detroit, Mint Artists Guild, and University Prep for Art and Design worked over a 24 hour period to paint the message of power and resilience. Today we were honored to have Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump here in Tempe, AZ to speak at our press conference for Tre Cumpian, a black victim of excessive force used by Tempe Police. He is the second victim of the racist officer Kerzaya this year. Ben Crump is “Black Amerika’s attorney general”. He has never failed to stand up for black lives that have been taken and dehumanized at the hands of police. He has represented Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, Jacob Blake and many other Black lives that we are forced to remember as a result of the serial killing committed by these murderers in uniform. We appreciate Mr. Crump taking the time to fly in and speak with us regarding the excessive force used against our brother Tre, especially on the same day we are all heartbroken by the news that none of the officers involved in the cruel murder of Breanna Taylor will be held accountable. It is a shame that the violence of Tempe Police has put us on the radar of national civil rights leaders. A Ravello un breve ma violento acquazzone ha costretto l’organizzazione del Ravello Festival a spostare il concerto dell’Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo all’Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer. Il debutto di Marco Armiliato in Campania e al Ravello Festival quindi c’è stato ma non sul palco del Belvedere di Villa Rufolo. All’auditorium, e questo non è un segreto, la bellezza del panorama che fa da sfondo al palco sospeso sul mare del Golfo di Salerno, lascia il posto ad una maggiore gratificazione in termine di suono e di acustica. Marco Armiliato e i 44 elementi del San Carlo accompagnati nella Città della Musica dal sovrintendente Stéphane Lissner, nel pomeriggio avevano provato sul Belvedere ma i nuvoloni neri che incombevano alle loro spalle non lasciavano presagire niente di buono e infatti… poco prima dell’inizio del concerto il forte temporale ha imposto lo spostamento. Scope included new Kawneer Company, Inc. 1600UT ultra-thermal performing curtainwalls glazed with Viracons VE24-85 high performance laminated insulating glass, Reynobond composite panel canopy fascia and column covers, Boon Edam USA crystal all glass revolving doors, C.R. Laurence Co., Inc. balanced door entrances, glass guardrails and a custom, 120 foot long, suspended glass canopy. Our OPENING NIGHT EVENT is also happening TONIGHT 6-8pm at @31staveopenstreet ! It’s free but tickets are required to maintain social distancing. Masks are also required.
