Thats a wrap! Another Common Ground Country Fair has come and gone. While this year may have looked different from previous years, the spirit of the Fair was felt in the overwhelming love and support from viewers around the world who tuned in to connect to the many features of this years event. We learned many things; like how to plant garlic, make apple cider vinegar, manage a forest with draft horses, become part of a community solar farm, save seeds, work with sheepdogs and so much more. We heard from three incredible keynote speakers - Leah Penniman, Barbara Damrosch and Winona LaDuke, shopped the Country Store and the Online Marketplace and viewed the wide array of community created content. Thanks to everyone who helped make this Fair possible and to all of the participants from near and far who joined us online to learn and connect. While the fair weekend may be over, the Fair will, in a way, continue on into the next year. The recorded livestream and community created content will be available on YouTube and the Fair website for up to a year and youll be able to shop the Online Marketplace and all your favorite vendors until January 8, 2021. Boat of the Month: Khristy Michelle⠀ ⠀ John Williams, of Stonington, Maine, started fishing with his father when he was only 6 years old, and from then on, hes lived a life on the water. I fished an outboard in high school and bought his 34-foot Jonesporter when I graduated. We went groundfishing during the 80s and back lobstering in 1990.⠀ ⠀ Today, Williams lobsters on his 8-year-old Khristy Michelle, which he named after two of his nieces. I had it built at Johns Bay Boat Company, in South Bristol Maine, by Peter Kass and crew (on) Nov. 12, 2012. Most people think wooden boats are more expensive, but they are not. Wood isnt as expensive as resin.⠀ ⠀ Williams is pleased with the way Kass built the Khristy Michelle.⠀ ⠀ Peter designed my boat. This is the second boat he built for me. My last boat was 41 feet. We extended this one to 44 feet to get a better run. The Taconic Hotel was named as a nod to the Taconic Range, a piece of the Application Mountains that weaves through eastern New York, western Vermont, down to Massachusetts and even into Connecticut. Fun fact, our neighbor Mount Equinox, visable from our adirondack chairs on the Green, or from some of our Premier King rooms, is the highest peak within the Taconic Range clocking in at 3,850 feet.
