Snow View Point, Nainital -------------------------------------------------------------- Snow View Point is one of the most visited places by tourists for watching majestic Himalayas from Nainital. Known as best view point in Nainital, Snow view point offers tourists an excellent views of snow capped mountains like Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Kot. Snow view point is well connected by road but an adventurous ride in aerial ropeway from Mallital is always worth it. Situated at an altitude of 2,270 m, Snow view point offers excellent views of snowcapped mountains. In order to provide a perfect view to visitors, a pair of huge binoculars is installed at this spot. A small temple housing images of Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman with Durga and Shiva is located on the peak. The Tibetan monastery Gadhan Kunkyop Ling Gompa of the Gelukpa order situated near Snow view point is also a must visit spot. It is located at a height of 13,668 feet above mean sea level in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh in north India. Founded by Dromton, a famous disciple of teacher Atisha in the 11th century, the monastery used to house about 350 lamas at one time. The number of inmates at the monastery has come down. Last month I was lucky enough to be in Bhutan exploring new mountain bike trails for @rideshimano and @yeticycles. On our last day of riding we did a long Bhutanese shuttle (aka 3 hour hike-a-bike) and descended down to the Tigers Nest Temple. Our stellar guides and friends @peldendorji and @yesheytshering helped me get some prayer flags I had carried with me blessed by the monks there. Today I was able to hang them on top of the Highland Peak for the opening day of the season. Thanks Pelden and YT! And thank you to my coworkers who put up with me on a daily basis. मेरी प्यारी ईजा आज फिर से एक बार चिठी लिख रहा हूँ । सिर्फ तेरे लिए मुझे पता है तू कुछ हैरान सी होगी इस चिठी को मिलने पर और सोचेगी व्हाट्सएप के इस दौर में भला चिठी कौन भेजता है। आज सब लोग अपनी अपनी ईजा के साथ सेल्फी लेकर व्हाट्सएप और फेसबुक में डाल रहे हैं। मैं भी डालना चाह रहा था तेरी फ़ोटो लेकिन मन नहीं कर रहा था। एक महीने से ऊपर हो गया है lockdown को अब दम घुटने लगा है इस बन्द कमरे में, सोच रहा था अगर ये lockdown जल्दी ख़त्म हो जाता तो घर आता और तेरे साथ बैसाख के महीने का काम समेटता। कमरे में एक खिड़की से रोशनी आ रही है और कल शाम के झूठे बर्तनों में मंखियाँ भिनभिना रही हैं। ईजा तू मेरी फिक्र मत करना मेरे पास सब कुछ है खाने पीने के लिए बस ऐसे ही अक्सर तेरे खयाल आया जाते हैं तो खुद को रोक नहीं पाता हूँ और तुझे फ़ोन कर देता हूँ। मुझे नहीं पता रहता है कि तू खेत में काम कर रही होगी या गोठ से गोबर निकाल रही होगी और मैं यहाँ बैठ के आराम से तेरे से बातें करता रहता हूँ और तू कान में एक कपड़े से फ़ोन को बांध कर ना जाने कितने काम निपटा लेती है। अभी परसों बात हुई थी जब फ़ोन किया था तब तू खेत में गेहूँ काट रही थी और तूने बताया गेहूँ चूटने के लिए कोई मिल नही रहा है अब जो तू दिल्ली से बोतल लेकर आया था वो किसी को दूँगी तो वो थोड़ा बहुत गेहूँ चूटने में मदद कर देगा।फिक्र हो रही थी हर एक बात पर कैसे बैसाख के महीने में पानी पीने तक का टाइम नहीं होता है लोगों के पास और मैं1 घंटे से बात कर रहा था और ईतने समय में गेहूँ काटकर घर गयी और दिन का खाना बनाया और गाय भैंस को भी नहला दिया था और मैं सिर्फ सिगरेट की कश मारते हुए तेरे से बातें कर रहा था। याद है पिछली बार दीवाली में जब घर आया था तेरे साथ कितना काम किया था, गाय भैंस को नहलाया और घर का काम फिर शाम को खेत में घास काटने आया था और तुझे याद है वो शांति चाची क्या कह रही थी। ओ सरूली दी आब च्याल क बया कर दे कब झालें बुत कराली घर पन क आब जवान है गयो । मेरे चेहरे में भले ही एक मुस्कान थी लेकिन मन ही मन तेरी फिक्र थी कैसे इतना सारा काम कर लेती होगी अकेले ही। मैं सुबह सोया रहता था और तू पता नहीं कब उठ जाती थी पता ही नहीं चलता था ना कोई अलार्म की जरूरत थी। सुबह जब आँखे खुलती थी तब तक तूने घर का आधा काम निपटा लिया होता था। और मेरे हाथ में चाय की गिलास देकर कहती थी जल्दी उठ जा नहा धोकर मंदिर में दिया जला। और रात को याद है मैं तेरा फेवरेट गाना चला देता था। डबली वाले डबली बजा जा. #thelostpahadi #pahadi #kumaoni - @thelostpahadi on Instagram

When I first started climbing I was working two jobs and living in a studio apartment. I made a list of all the things (gear) I would need to get to be able to keep climbing, and each month I would do the math on how much ramen instead of fresh food was required to be able to buy those crampons or that waterproof jacket. People shared their knowledge and gear and time with me and eventually I was able to share my knowledge, time and gear with others. I believe that being generous with what you have (time, knowledge, physical things) will always come back to you. What is a Drupchhen? Did you know that Drupchhen, Domchen are all words that originate from the term Drubcho (which translates as accomplishment offering) It is an esoteric Buddhist practice, a group ceremony to invoke the power and blessings of deities through chanting of prayers, visualization, offering of feasts and rites of reparation. The annual Thimphu Lhamoi Drupchen is one of the two most important deity worship ceremonies (the other being the Gonwang Drubchen in Punakha in early spring) that are carried out in Bhutan. The Thimphu Drubchen is especially to cultivate the blessing and favor of the female deity Pelden Lhamo and her retinue. Although the public showcase is only for three days, the actually ceremony lasts 15 days inside the Dzong with special meditation practice, incantations and offering. The 3 day Domchen inside the Dzong are then followed by the 3 day Tshechu at the Tendrelthang which marks the auspicious 10th date of the month for the arrival of Guru Rinpochee. Founded by Kuenga Gyaltshen, who is believed to be the incarnation of Zhabdrung’s son Jampal Dorji, Thimphu Lhamoi Drupchen is considered as a special healing ceremony especially during times of great need. It is believed that when Kuenga Gyaltsen was meditating in Cheri Monastery, the deity Pelden Lhamo appeared in his visualization telling him to initiate the Drupchen for the welfare of Bhutan. This year’s Drupchhen carries out even more significance due to the pandemic. So although you may be watching the event through your screens this year, it is important to do so with an awareness of Pelden Lhamo and seek her blessings. The deity is seen as the chief of the mamo spirits capable of releasing plagues and diseases but also in possession of the power to take it back. This year marks the 310th annual Drupchen and the only one in recent memory without a crowd of spectators. Hillary Bridge: Its probabaly easy to make out from my expression how scared I was on this particular suspension bridge 😅 . . During EBC we had to cross numerous suspension bridges which have been built over time to shorten the route for trekkers. However, this bridge was special. Hillary Bridge is the oldest bridge in the Sagarmatha trekking zone, named after Sir Edmund Hillary. The bridge is more than 50 years old which was obvious by its rickety feel. . . Suspension bridges are a highlight of the EBC trek. They are adorned by thousands of prayer flags which are almost constantly swaying with the wind. 👉Thorong La Pass is the climax point of the Annapurna Circuit at 5,416 metres altitude and one of the hardest treks on the Annapurna circuit. At this altitude, there is only half of the oxygen available at sea level. This basicly means, that every step you take feels like you just ran a marathon. 👉However, trekking Thorong La is far from being impossible. With enough preparation and time, anyone can do it. The secret is allowing enough time for your body to acclimatise to the altitude. Sobre sonhos... Eu nunca tinha vendido uma série de fotos assinando como artista. Eu já fui contratada pra inúmeros projetos fotográficos, já vendi minhas fotos de outras formas, mas nunca tinha realmente vendido uma captura do meu olhar como arte (acho que só quem é artista entende a diferença). Talvez essa impostora que habita minha mente e me sabota de vez em quando me fizesse acreditar que meu trabalho não era bom o suficiente. ⠀⠀ Esses dias eu pensei que deveria dar mais atenção pra isso e logo em seguida apareceu a Patty, uma seguidora das antigas que mora no Colorado, EUA. Sincronicidade. Eu não a conheço, mas sei bem quem ela é pq ela sempre apoia meu trabalho, e ela me disse que queria comprar fotos de montanhas pra colocar na parede. ⠀⠀ Separei algumas fotos, comecei a olhar em tela grande minha primeira seleção e percebi minha vista um pouco saturada depois de ver muitas fotos, então deixei as fotos lá na tela e fui fazer outras coisas pra arejar - eu faço muito isso no meu processo crítico criativo pra saber se aquilo que estou vendo está realmente bom. ⠀⠀ “UAU! Fui EU que tirei essas fotos todas... como eu sonhei em ser essa pessoa!” - foi a primeira reação que tive ao sentar na frente do computador novamente. ⠀⠀ Me emocionei. Acho que foi um desses raros momentos que deixei a autoestima profissional me preencher e me permiti sentir todo orgulho que eu deveria sentir desse longo e árduo caminho que trilhei até aqui. ⠀⠀ Me lembrei da época que não tinha dinheiro nem pra comprar uma bateria extra pra câmera que penei pra pagar, lembrei do curso de fotografia que não pude investir, de quando troquei meu trabalho por um celular melhor pra trabalhar, de quando fui assaltada e chorava incansavelmente pq não tinha como comprar outro equipamento, mas eu tinha o privilégio de sonhar, que nunca me custou nada. São infinitas memórias, que hoje se tornaram memórias coloridas e impressas na parede de uma fã do meu trabalho lá no Colorado. ⛰️One of the things that I miss about the mountains; these colorful patches of prayer flags strung from tree to tree 🌲 . 🧗‍♀️The higher we hike, the more prayer flags appear, until it seems, the entire sky is strung with long kites of colourful flags, the pattern repeated again and again, by the hundreds and thousands—a million fluttering prayer flags across the rocky path, and then across the open chasms of the Himalayas . 5️⃣ The flags come in five different colours – blue, red, green, white and yellow. Each colour represents the five wisdoms of Buddhism and the five basic elements – sky, fire, earth, water and air. Buddhists believe that keeping these five elements in good harmony is good for the body and mind . 🧡 The yellow prayer flag is for victory over obstacles ❤️ The red prayer flag is for fulfilling your wishes . 🕊️ These flags are believed to spread peace and harmony with the flowing air... You find these in the woods high up in the mountains . 🏞️ It is always seen that these prayer flags are put in the open as they need movement to be the most effective... . Living the memories Gamgadi, Mugu For our program in Gamgadi, Mugu, a remote outpost in the country’s far western region, we collaborated with Karnali Arts Center, a local theater group. We worked with 14 young people to create a theatre production based on a local folktale, ‘Pampha Phool’. 🇬🇧 I went out to the main terrace, as the noise called my attention. They were doing a ritual where one monk was sitting on the floor while two other novices were clapping their hands on the first monks face, balancing their bodies forward and backward. At first sight it seemed kind of rude, but the three of them involved were so natural on their reactions. I had to ask them to understand what was going on, and they said it was kind of a debate, a religious practice. The monks standing up asked questions to the one on the ground, that answered. Of course I didnt understand a word, but I found it so interesting just to watch. What else do you know about it? *Story time* . Oyee... what are you doing there? Come here I want to show you something. What is it? I will be there in just a second, I am trying to get clicked with the sign board and bike. Just come here na, I want to click you in front of the Komic monastery, its a great view from up there. I climbed up some broken mud stairs and started to follow him. I could hear the faint sound of prayer drums from inside the monastery getting closer and closer. Suddenly he turned, pulled my hand and shoved me in front of the monastery gate. . Ohh! the horror, a shriek escaped my mouth as I jumped back. There, in front of my eyes was a snow leopard, hanging from the wall, it had big scary eyes drawn on its face, looking directly into my soul. After the shock of a first few seconds we started to laugh, he got me, and he paid for that with a punch on his arm. Then we teamed up and pranked all of our other friends one by one. 🤭 . Note: It is said that this snow leopard was killed by the locals to defend their village, but afterwards unexplained scary occurrences started to take place in the village. So to repent for their actions, they preserved and placed the body of the leopard in the monastery and now it is forbidden to kill a snow leopard in this region. She smiled and laughed at us endlessly. 💓 I call her grandmother, she wasn’t by blood but I feel in love with her in the short amount of time we spent together. They say when you get older you don’t care about what people think or of the consequences, and do what you want, and she did. 🌿 She loved us dearly, I could see it in her eyes and her gentle touch. We were a bunch of foolish inexperienced backpackers some would say, all the nine of us, out on a big adventure hiking through the countrysides of Myanmar. One day after a long days hike and our feet’s aching, we were relieved to eventually find ourselves in a small rural village, it was the perfect stop for the night we thought, so off we went door to door looking for hosts, but no one would take us in, as villagers had been warned and would be fined or face imprisonment if they were to be found hosting travelers. We started to lose hope after being repeatedly rejecting, but we did not know what to do and could not go back as it was late, so we carried on nocking on every door till we found grandmother. 🏡 She lived in a small stilt house, we did not speak the language and did not have to say much, she looked at us and could see we were in need of help, she smiled and took us in. She did not ask for money, other than the little we had ourselves offered, which probably could not even pay the fine. She fed us joyfully and bedded us warmly for the night. She was our loving grandmother, and we loved her dearly.
