Mom, don’t look! 🤣 This was probably the most liberating thing I’ve done thus far. I was so scared, I couldn’t stop shaking. Thankfully, God is always sending me his angels. If you ask me, this was a set up! The instructor Eugene, is so f*ckin powerful. I swear, God is always looking out. As soon as it was my turn, he literally said this isn’t about the fear of height, is about trying something new you’re afraid of. That’s when I broke down crying, I don’t know how he knew, but he said “this isn’t about anyone else, this is about you and only you. What are you letting go of?” I started naming the things I’ve been so afraid of in my head, and then I ended by saying f*ck you fear!! When I let go, I felt such a rush of peace and tranquility. Looking back at photos. Looking at myself before I knew my future. It’s a funny thing to write about the past. A time of growth. A special time to reflect on, through all the ups and downs. . The only money we had to our name went into this trip. Scott and I just moved into our trucks while still working in Provo Utah, so we didn’t have to pay rent while we were gone in Nepal. We were making it happen, waiting tables, framing houses. We were going to climb some unclimbed gem. I didn’t own a puffy, so he gave me his. . We had left the monastery with our khatas draped across our necks and set out to pack in 3 weeks of food to Base Camp, at 17k. A few locals told us not to bring food that high into the mountains because it would attract the mountain yeti. Amused, we shared a smile and packed another bag of rice. . Soon we were sleeping above 19k. Scott and I had our only ever blowout up there above the clouds. My body wasn’t cooperating, but our objective was above 6000m .This was nothing. I felt that I was going to be fine. He wanted me to go down. I wanted to go up. I wasn’t ready to surrender the trip and I convinced him I was ok to sleep another night up high. In the morning we started up the peak’s talus until i was disoriented and coughing up blood. I was finally scared enough to turn around. It took me a very long time to get back to 15k. I remember Scott cracking jokes, but even in my altered state I could tell he was just trying to keep me moving. I would cough up blood off and on for what would become 5 years after that day. . We were really shaken after that trip. But we had made it home safe. I was getting better. We were good. Just over 3 months later the 2015 earthquake would shake Nepal. And the very house we occupied in the Rowling valley would collapse. All the incredible people we met had somehow survived by some miracle. Tragically, so many others did not. I was 24 then, and began to see life’s fragility. I remember it all becoming very real. Our place in the world. How we were tiny little specs of dusts aiming to ascend Himalayan giants. It was beautiful and hopeful, terrifying and incredibly humbling. I wondered if we had woken the yeti. - @angela_vanwiemeersch on Instagram

If there is one way to work on shoulder health and resilience then moving your lens to another part of the body will help. After the incident, I was a MESS. I wasn’t performing well. Everything felt heavy and dark. I felt unsafe and disconnected from my own body - riddled with shame, guilt, and anxiety. I had no idea how to take care of myself from here and desperately needed a change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I stepped away from my career, and moved home to reflect and heal. By chance, found a local yoga studio offering a teacher training and I saw it as an opportunity to self-soothe & go within myself for healing. Thanks to my combination of yoga, therapy, and break from the spotlight, I began to finally feel like a new version of myself. But she wasn’t new-new. She is the Maria that I sense I’ve been all along, but she was just buried beneath layers of trauma, stress, shame, self-doubt, you-name-it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ultimately found a way to heal from within on a level deeper than I thought possible. Since Zion and Kolob are open to climbing again I thought itd be fun to finally share the pocket topo I made for our most recent route there, Big Game Hunter (5.12d, 7 pitches). This was one of the most skill and labor intensive routes Ive ever had the opportunity to work on. For five days straight we inched our way up the wall in ground up style. There were lots of bolts to hand drill on lead and lots of very dangerous climbing that was done onsight. Later we decided to retro bolt those sections in order to eliminate any unnecessary death runouts. We returned a few times to finally push the route as high as it would go and eventually later climb it all free. Pitch three is one of the longest sandstone handcracks Ive climbed and the crux pitch (pic 2) was maybe the most diversely demanding crack and face climbing Ive done in my life. New covid protocol- mom has to wait in the car during the orthodontist appointments. We’re comfortable on the side of the lens no one sees. People follow our feeds and could recognize our families walking down the street, yet may not be able to identify the mom or wife that goes with them and for whatever reason, we struggle to include ourselves in the frame. With 93 remaining fire lookouts to explore in WA state, @camilovsurf and I were lucky enough to stay in one of the 7 first come first serve options available in the state for a living museum lodging experience nestled on a mountain peak above and in the clouds. At 6890 ft above sea level and a 3300 elevation gain, this one is not for the faint of heart for first time backpack packers and is trickier in the winter as its surrounded by avalanche terrain. First come first serves means traveling with the hopes of getting the lookout, and being prepared to descend the mountain and find nearby campsites below if it is already occupied by other hikers (regardless of the weather which can turn quickly as we experienced here.) For firelookout stays, check the information on them, some require permits to camp in the area as this one does. Always check the weather and go prepared with all your camping gear in the event it is occupied. As a former luxury hotelier, its funny that we prefer to stay in fire lookouts, yurts, tents, and teepees, together and live on a yacht (just bought a camper to elevate our adventures together even further). These types of lodging and experiences have been able to connect us with nature, each other and ourselves so much more than any hotel establishment or our former luxury apartment dwellings ever could or did. - @chase_travels on Instagram

Sin embargo, un inédito proyecto de limpieza y restauración está en marcha para solucionarlo. My dog is obedient But does your dog have applied obedience. This was a concept that I read from @canine_performance when we first committed to our daily and lifelong training journey. Knox could sit, lay down, place and all the commands in the home and on paper, but could we apply them outside of the home? Absolutely not. The environmental stimuli was too much and all of our tricks and commands went out the window. Obedience: knows commands - sit, stay, come, down, place, leave it, heel Applied obedience: - sits and stays on a walk while you stop to pick up poop - comes when there is a much more fun squirrel to chase - stays on place when people come in the door - heels around lots of dogs and people See the difference? How do you get here? I hate to break it to you, it doesnt happen overnight. It takes dedication and daily work. First the dog must know the command inside out (R+) without any physical manipulation or lure. Reps, reps, reps and, you guessed it, more reps. From there you slowly increase distraction. This may be with toys or sounds in your house, or moving to your backyard. Again, reps, reps, reps. And ALWAYS holding your dog accountable. Otherwise, theyll never take you seriously. We now seek out busy areas to work. We want those commands sharp in any situation, because for us - that equals freedom. When does this end? Never. Training is lifelong. Theres always room for improvement. Weve been working on applied obedience for months and while we are far from perfect, we have made such big strides. Don’t let the season change fool ya! There is still plenty of sun-rays right now to soak in some essential & healthy Vitamin D all natural from the sun! What are your current thoughts on sun exposure? There’s a lot of mixed information out there that can leave us outdoor folks feeling confused with info. Facts: In order for our bodies to produce vitamin D and send it to every cell in our body (that’s right, EVERY cell) we need 30ish mins of sunshine direct on our skin a few times per week. Lack of vitamin D can lead to skin cancer and a long list of other health issues. Countries further from the equator have the highest melanoma rates due to the lack of vitamin D all year round. While we support adequate amounts for health benefits, we do not support over exposure or using toxic products on your skin/our environment. Think about that for real. Make sure you’re choosing a plant based sunscreen to eat through your precious skin. What you’re eating through your skin is equally as important as what you’re eating through your mouth. After all, the skin is our largest organ. But hang on folks! Do not be in a rush to apply sunscreen before walking out the door. Patience is a virtue and can improve the quality of your life here specifically when it comes to the sun, & we’ll tell you why. Liquid sunscreen blocks our capability to convert the sun into vitamin D. It was created for over exposure, not zero exposure. Make sure the first 30 mins you are in direct contact with the sunlight free of any sunscreen. Exposing as much skin to the sun as possible is BEST for these 30 minutes. After waiting 30 mins your body will have already converted your essential vitamin D from the sun and you’re free to use a hat, apply sunscreen, use another type of sun-screen that works for you to move into protection mode from over exposure. Use all natural plant based sunscreens to protect your own health and the wellbeing of our sea/land wildlife, & water quality. The start of my spring break in March marked the beginning of the end of normal life due to the #virus. But I was lucky enough to spend this time in Moab with some great company! While there I tried Mountain Unicycling(Muni) for the first time at Slickrock and broke my unicycle, rigged two rad little parallel lines near Gemini Bridges, and even tried climbing (no that last one can’t be right). Today’s (late) #movementmonday is about @ladylockoff, an Instagrammer that most of our climbing community is probably familiar with. If you haven’t heard of her, you’ve probably seen her latest collaboration with @climbbutora or seen her photos of @inheadlights, @matt_likes_climbing, @ashleyreva, or @neverbadweather. In an Outside Magazine interview, she was noted as a photographer who gained recognition for taking shots of amateur women climbers. While some of the climbers may not be professional, I would definitely call her subjects daily heroes in the community, who have the courage to push their limits and allow someone to capture them in their most terrified or vulnerable moments. With a 45K strong following, it’s clear that her images captivate our community and prove that these stories are worth capturing and sharing. Go give her a follow if you haven’t yet! Colorado friends WITH Spinal Cord Injury AND anyone IN the lovely state of Colorado who give a stink-hole about your friends with SCI…. I need your help writing a 1-page letter— ONE hour of your time, tops!!! We will write them together to your District Representatives. Yes, our politics on the National level are a mess right now, but the local level is how change happens. Not gonna break your back if you don’t try 😬oh wait, wrong phrase….not gonna climb hard if you don’t try climbing hard 😀 . . . . . Unite 2 Fight Paralysis and I have been working on a Colorado initiative to establish research and funding for Colorado. @u2fp has successfully pushed legislative changes in other states; Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin….. . . . This handful of State commitments has resulted in 12.8 MILLION of permanent dollars to fund SCI research annually. For comparison sake, the SCI community in Colorado annually spends about 300 million on health care costs. Individual lifetime averages range from 1.5-4.6 million depending on severity …. higher levels injuries, remember, can’t breath, can’t use their hands all of that awful stuff. . . . These states, subsequently are leading the charge on research efforts and clinical trials. It is pretty cool to see my home state and the University of Minnesota @umnneurosurgery charging!!! I would love for my other home state, having lived exactly the same amount of time in both, also forging the curative path. If your not in Colorado but interested in helping your state, reach out. . . . Personal stories and effort = more awareness, more funding AND research. Forestville local Travis Lombardo has been scouring the #sonomacoast since the early 2000s. Lombardo is responsible for many unique boulder problems between the #sonomacounty creek beds and the Central California Coast, but perhaps his finest discovery is the aptly named “Arch;” a beautiful overhanging jumble of sculpted tufoni sandstone located near the classic route Stoney White Boots Johnson (5.13a) at Salt Point State Park. After discovering the Arch Lombardo returned with Sonoma County local climber @gtraversi who managed the first ascent while a barrage of waves slammed into the surrounding cliffs and peninsulas. Were all seeking solitude when we visit the wilderness, but lately weve been only finding trash. Literally, garbage... and lots of it. 🧻 Far more than the stray escape-ie pocket wrapper. Weve always made a point of picking up litter on the trails but this trip we focused on a specific beautiful waterfront campsite. Sadly, it was covered in every type of trash you could imagine from classic beer cans to plastic silverware, tent parts, juice box straws galore, large loose metal, the remains of a burnt recliner, a table, particle board, a giant bag of smelly garbage, fish hooks, rope, sanitary items, bottles, cans and the list goes on. Needless to say, a solid van load! Growing up I assumed, pack it in, pack it out was common knowledge but here I am at 38 years-old learning that in fact, a majority of the world does NOT embrace this concept. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Its had me wondering why...?! You wouldnt toss your used TP, egg shells and dirty socks in your friends yard, so why would you toss it in our back yard? (Our being the public.) Laziness? Ignorance? Cultural habits? All of the above and probably more. Regardless of the cause, if we team together to be stewards, educators and encouragers of ethical practices we CAN make a difference. ✊🏼 #keepitwild ((Steps down from milk crate.)) This weekend Shawn Snyder, a man previously banned from Smith Rock, decided to install a handmade, unsafe ladder made of rebar going straight up the Picnic Lunch Wall right off the foot of the Misery Ridge Trail against the recommendation and ethics of the climbing community.   He stated that he will continue to take such action unless a bolting ban is put in place, damaging public resources to further his agenda. His actions aim to show division in the climbing community with a stated purpose of stir(ring) the pot so much so that its too miserable for the land managers to deal with the drama and decide its easier to shut our sports down. In a comment on MP he states, “Good hardware is really expensive and I definitely am not giving up my coffee so basic rebar will have to do.” He intends to continue installing these dangerous ladders throughout the park saying, “I really like these they go up pretty quick. Should have several in by the end of this year.” We cannot let this happen. We cannot let one angry man’s agenda ruin the climbing community’s relationship with park management. We cannot endanger the public allowing these dangerous ladders to proliferate the walls of Smith. We must act to stop Shawn from installing dangerous, handmade rebar ladders throughout the park. And we have to do so tonight. If you are outraged by Shawns actions, whether you are a Smith Rock local or not, we need you need to write to an email to the park manager Matt Davey  Matthew.Davey@oregon.gov. They need documentation to take action. Explain how if you feel threatened by his behavior. These emails need to be in by tomorrow morning. White Mountain Peak Elev. 14,252 I did it my second 14er 3rd highest mountain in California, I’m hooked! Mt Whitney being the highest of the lower 48 states. Looking forward to tackling more 14ers. This mountain felt like I was on Mars. It was a rocky 15mile hike not to mention the 2 hr rocky drive up to trail camp. No glamping here having the time of my life sleeping under the stars and full moon. Nature at it’s finest love the sounds and seeing the wildlife. Every hike has a story this one was no different. We planned to get up and start our hike early to catch the sunrise at the summit only to find we couldn’t open our bear box it was suctioned shut. Grateful we came across Randy who had tools to cut it open, otherwise this hike would have never happened. I finally sent my nemesis, Phallus 8A+/V12!!! ••• In June I sent the stand start to this boulder in 30 minutes. It had already been a long day so I decided to save the low start for another time. I thought that it wouldn’t be much harder since it only adds one move, but boy was I wrong! ••• My first day on the boulder I spent a couple of hours trying it, continuously falling at the top. I wanted to send so badly that I kept rapid firing and when I finally took a step back, I realized I couldn’t move my arm without pain. It turns out I had re-strained my bicep. ••• After taking a little time off to heal my bicep, I finally started climbing and going outside again. Every time I climbed in Lower Chaos I would hop on Phallus and give it 3-4 attempts because after that, my bicep would feel off and I didn’t want to strain it again. ••• Deep down I knew I shouldn’t be trying Phallus so I took a month off from the climb. Yesterday, I finally went back after feeling healthy and strong and sent 1st try! ••• I knew I wouldn’t send until I believed I could, and yet it took me three months to convince myself that I could send. Although this isn’t physically the most challenging climb I have sent, it is definitely the most rewarding!!! - @nataliaclimbs on Instagram

The biological timeline burden. TMI? Never. Somos humanos. . . I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and most of my family and childhood best friends are there. For a while, I had been feeling the social pressures of not having children or being married or even being in a relationship moving in that direction. The pressure isn’t from my southeastern family. They are pretty relaxed about these kinds of things, especially already having a grandkid. Thanks, bro! It’s probably just from having friends who have been married for a while and with multiple children. Or more likely it’s just me putting pressure on myself and nobody else thinks much of it. When I was younger I figured I’d have my first child at the age of 30. Honestly, I’m not interested in that lifestyle for myself quite yet. I also can tell I will not be ready to have children in at least the next few years. Of course, never say never as we never know what the future holds. Cue 2020 ... 🤦🏼‍♀️. But, I feel pretty sure that by the time I have children, if I ever do, I’ll be “diagnosed” medically as having advanced maternal age (34) anyway. After seeing so much in the hospital and people with infertility tragedies, I decided it’d be best to freeze some eggs. I’ve just completed that elusive process. In the past, I had been so worried about not meeting the right person to settle down with in conjunction with my biological timeline. Now I feel I don’t have to worry or search. I have time. I have mixed feelings on things that feel unnatural like freezing eggs, but it was a really good decision for me. If any women are considering it and haven’t had much information about it or maybe it’s now on your radar from reading this, feel free to get in touch. De regreso en Puerto Natales después de haber pasado 11 días en la montaña y 7 días colgados en la pared, escalamos algunos de los largos más difíciles que nos han tocado hasta el momento en la pared, al mismo tiempo fuimos petateando todo el equipo y comida necesaria hasta el largo número 13 en donde encontramos una terraza perfecta para armar un campamento. En este lugar tras 3 días encerrados en los portaledge por los fuertes vientos decidimos bajar para esperar una ventana que nos permita dar el pegue final a la pared.
