Week 5: It’s hard to believe we have reached week #5. It’s incredible how amazing I feel. I have lost 50 pounds since January! At this point my diet consists of 1500 calories from protein and carbs. I am surprised how much energy I have at my age on 1500 calories and some pretty intense workouts. I have always been a stress eater. This past year was one of the most stressful of my life and it damn near killed me! I had allowed myself to reach my highest weight ever, 420 + pounds. I literally couldn’t stay awake, my body was betraying me, I wasn’t thinking clearly, everyday tasks were becoming impossible, and worst of all I was ready to give up. For too long I felt that I could hide my inner struggle from others. What I didn’t realize was that everyone around me could sense I was in a bad place. I am not always the most approachable person in the world, but I had people in the community stop me and express their concern for me. Their concerns always came with an expression of love and commitment to help me in anyway they could. They made me realize I was making a difference in other people’s lives and if I didn’t take control of my life that commitment to community and my family would be gone. I finally realized I wasn’t just hurting myself, but I was hurting those around me as well. My children became angry and I was so far gone I couldn’t figure out why? My wife explained that they were angry at me for eating my life away. Their “angry love” is what made me finally decide to take control.
