Lopera costituisce una spettacolare metafora barocca del celebre mito ovidiano e una raffinata testimonianza del potere della scultura sulla poesia nel dibattuto confronto tra le arti visive e quelle letterarie che percorse l’intero Seicento. Nella Medusa di Bernini la parola diventa immagine e lo spettatore diventa protagonista della favola. Ponendosi davanti alla scultura si ha quasi l’impressione di entrare a far parte del mito e di assistere a quel fatale momento in cui Medusa, incrociando il suo sguardo in uno specchio, prende coscienza del fatale errore cadendo vittima del suo stesso potere. La carne morbida del suo volto impallidisce, le serpi che guizzano tra i capelli si paralizzano, il dolore e l’angoscia riempiono i suoi occhi fissandosi per sempre nel marmo. Da oggi i visitatori dei Musei Capitolini potranno tornare ad ammirare questo capolavoro incantandosi di fronte alla pietrificazione di Medusa che si compie davanti ai loro occhi. Wir versofareisen mit Jürgen Schütte 850 Kilometer, in einem Faltboot, durch das Polarmeer und gönnen uns eine Abkühlung. Freitag - 21.8.- 20:00 Jürgen Schütte - Spitzbergen - Inseln im Eis Das Inselarchipel „Svalbard“ liegt auf halben Weg vom nördlichsten Punkt Norwegens zum Nordpol, direkt im Eismeer. Es ist eine ungastliche Gegend für Menschen. Die Sonne geht monatelang nicht unter und lässt Besucher jegliches Gefühl für Zeit verlieren. Manchmal ist die Luft so klar, dass weit Entferntes zum Greifen nah erscheint. Ein anderes Mal hüllen Nebelbänke das Land tagelang in graue Schleier. Bekannt wurde Svalbard in den vergangenen Jahren durch Medienberichte über das Abschmelzen der Gletscher und des Inlandeises. Von Longyearbyen, der Hauptstadt des Inselarchipels, startete die ungewöhnliche Kajakreise von Jürgen Schütte. Bereits nach zwei Wochen fiel seine Paddelpartnerin aus gesundheitlichen Gründen aus. So machte sich Jürgen Schütte allein auf den Weg nach Norden. Er folgte den Spuren von Forschern wie Nansen und Amundsen und erkundete die Siedlungsgebiete der Pomoren, die als Walfänger und Jäger die Insel in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten bewohnten. Mit dem größten norwegischen Eisbrecher, der „Svalbard“, geht es nach knapp zwei Monaten Kajakreise wieder zurück nach Longyearbyen. Ein Geologe führte Jürgen Schütte zum „ältesten Wald der Welt“. In Svea, eine der letzten Bergbausiedlungen auf der Insel und die letzte Reisestation auf dem Heimweg, gibt es nur ca. 15 Straßenkilometer, aber ein Vielfaches an Strecke, die man mit dem Auto durch die Minenwelt fahren kann. Ein Kohlefrachtschiff bringt Jürgen Schütte und seine Ausrüstung zurück ins „warme“ Deutschland. For so long (and understandably!), we have focused solely on the huge rollercoaster of emotional and hormonal changes that women go through when they become new mothers. But men experience this too! 🧍🏽♂️ Let’s start with testosterone. Testosterone is the ‘masculine’ 💪🏼hormone that we all know about - it’s role is mostly to motivate men to find female partners and to reproduce. Studies show that men with higher levels of testosterone tend to be more attractive to potential mates. So, the theory is, when men find their partner and have a baby, their testosterone levels drop as they’re no longer needed to be so high! Multiple studies have found that men’s testosterone levels are lowest just before and straight after their baby is born. 👶🏽 And then there’s oxytocin... the wonder love hormone that we talk about so much! Studies in both animals and humans show that once a father, a man’s levels of oxytocin (the happy love hormone), estrogen and prolactin all increase! Lo cierto es que al sacarlas del agua, aunque sea por un instante, entra aire a la estrella y esto compromete el funcionamiento de su sistema vascular acuífero, del que depende su capacidad de moverse, alimentarse e incluso respirar. Ten en cuenta que matar a un animal no es la única forma de lastimarlo. Si cada turista que visita nuestra costa se hiciese una selfie sacando una estrella de mar del agua, sin duda comprometería la supervivencia de estos coloridos animales. me, an intellectual, about to teach in the middle of a heatwave. last week, i taught right after a dual non-indictment (I could see helicopters outside my window), a week before that, on a day where most of the state was orange and foggy and a week before that, through smoke and horrible air quality. this is definitely not a time to be teaching. this is a time where we should be collectively reflecting on care, how we care for, how we offer care, who we extend care to, how to ask for care, how to see ourselves worthy of care, how to center immediate pleasures in our care practices, and how we can be better caretakers in general. yes, poetry is a way of caretaking, but under a western university system, there’s only so much care I can offer to my students who are constantly advocating for their lives in other classes. instead of intellectualizing life last week, we interrupted our syllabus and did a writing workshop where we traveled 30 yrs into the future. educators, how are you offering care? i wrote them a poem last week and read it aloud as a way to process together but also to hold myself as the only black person in the space. i do want my students to read the poets i put on the syllabus since a lot of them have been foundational to how I think about resistance and love and abolition, but i also want to offer more space than is usually allotted. how do y’all approach this? maybe I should just assign 1-3 poems instead of entire collections? or maybe more break out groups? thots? also, mesh tops are zoom appropriate right? 👀☀️🧚🏾♂️ - @migrantscribble on Instagram

A pandemia de Covid-19 preocupa por seus números de infectados e de casos graves, gerando um impacto social, na saúde e na economia mundial. Os idosos e pessoas com comorbidades continuam sendo o centro das preocupações. Por outro lado, muito antes da pandemia de covid, a obesidade vem sendo uma séria preocupação com sua crescente prevalência na população Brasileira. Deste modo, chama a atenção: Covid e Obesidade, o que estas pandemias têm em comum? Em sua fisiopatologia, o vasto tecido adiposo presente na obesidade gera uma inflamação crônica, resultando em disfunção metabólica, levando à dislipidemia, resistência à insulina, diabetes mellitus tipo 2, hipertensão e doenças cardiovasculares, sendo as mesmas comorbidades presentes nos fatores de risco do Covid. Peng et al. publicaram uma análise retrospectiva de 112 pacientes com infecção por COVID-19 admitidos no distrito oeste do Union Hospital em Wuhan, de 20 de janeiro de 2020 a 15 de fevereiro de 2020. Neste estudo, o IMC do grupo crítico foi significativamente maior do que no grupo geral. Os pacientes foram divididos em dois grupos, sobreviventes (84,8%) e não sobreviventes (15,18%). Os autores concluíram que o IMC mais alto era mais frequentemente observado em casos críticos e não sobreviventes. Ainda, os eventos trombóticos foram uma causa agravante da morte. Sabe-se que o risco tromboembólico é maior em pacientes com obesidade do que na população em geral. Segue-se logicamente que a obesidade pode ser um fator de risco agravante para a morte por infecção de COVID-19. Já é conhecido que o tecido adiposo pode servir como reservatório de adenovírus humano Ad-36, vírus influenza A, HIV, citomegalovírus, Trypanosoma gondii e Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Por analogia e o COVID-19 também pode infectar tecido adiposo e depois se espalhar para outros órgãos. A obesidade demonstra, então, aumentar a vulnerabilidade a infecções, mostrando-se como fator de risco para infecções e mortalidade relacionada ao Covid 19. For the latest episode of Bow Down, I absolutely loved talking with the renowned Kenyan / British ceramic artist Magdalene Odundo about her admiration for Ladi Kwali, who taught her in the early 1970s at the Pottery Training Centre that was established by Michael Cardew in Abuja in the 1950s. Ladi Kwali’s portrait now adorns the Nigerian 20 Naira bill - she was the first woman artist to be featured on currency in Africa. Magdalene explains that even now, after almost 50 years, she feels that Ladi Kwali is looking over her shoulder when she’s creating her ceramics. Despite the fact that they spoke different languages - Ladi Kwali spoke Hausa, and Magdalene Swahili and English - they had a productive relationship that revolved around demonstration, laughter and occasionally dancing with joy if a pot was particularly successful. Los Santuarios de la Naturaleza son la única figura legal vigente en Chile que permite y promueve la conservación privada en nuestro país. Estamos convencidos de que es de suma importancia valorar el patrimonio natural dada su vulnerabilidad y la escasez de ambientes relativamente prístinos; razones que han generado en el mundo entero una conciencia cada vez mayor de conservación y cuidado. Según la UICN, los Santuarios de la Naturaleza deben constituirse a través de su plan de manejo y mecanismo de gobernanza en modelos de gestión sustentables del territorio para ser replicados en otras áreas. Los Santuarios no prohíben la construcción habitacional sustentable a pequeña escala, lo que busca es que todas las actividades que allí se desarrollen puedan convivir, el objetivo principal de la creación de los santuarios es conservar, restaurar y hacer un uso sustentable del territorio, las planificaciones terroriales por ley deben estar ajustadas a las áreas protegidas y no al revés. ¡Queremos que el rol de Área Protegida se respete y se cumpla en nuestro Santuario! Chile fue uno de los organizadores que comenzó la iniciativa en conjunto con Costa Rica, sin embargo, en la actualidad se resta del acuerdo. Chile debe firmar el Acuerdo de Escazú para proteger el agua, la tierra, los pueblos ancestrales y a las defensoras y defensores del medio ambiente. La classificazione degli organismi viventi (sistematica o tassonomia) è una delle più antiche occupazioni dei biologi. Linneo nel XVIII secolo costruì un sistema tassonomico che rifletteva solo le somiglianze tra specie considerate immutabili. Gli obiettivi della sistematica cambiarono radicalmente nel XIX secolo con la teoria dell’evoluzione di Darwin. Darwin introdusse il concetto di Albero della Vita, come rappresentazione delle relazioni di parentela (filogenetiche) tra tutte le forme di vita. Fino agli anni 70 del XX secolo, però, la tassonomia si basò solo sulle somiglianze fenotipiche tra gli organismi, anche se con l’avvento del microscopio elettronico si potè raggiungere il livello cellulare. Una rivoluzione avvenne nel 1977 quando Carl Woese e collaboratori compararono le sequenze nucleotidiche di una molecola conservata in tutte le forme di vita: l’RNA ribosomiale della subunità piccola del ribosoma (rRNA 16S nei procarioti e rRNA 18S negli eucarioti). Furono così in grado di derivare, per la prima volta, una filogenesi globale degli organismi cellulari. Nel 1990 proposero il famoso modello dei 3 domini. Negli anni successivi la comparazione di interi genomi di diversi organismi, resa possibile dal perfezionamento delle tecniche di sequenziamento, suggerì che il modello proposto da Woese poteva essere troppo semplificato. Questi studi resero meno definite le linee di confine tra i 3 domini: i genomi di diversi archeobatteri presentavano svariati geni eubatterici e viceversa, anche i genomi eucariotici mostravano un’eredità mista. La scoperta fondamentale che i genomi fossero dei mosaici composti da geni di diversa origine però non ha intaccato alle fondamenta il sistema tripartito di Woese che continua a perdurare anche se sempre più nascosto dalle fitte ramificazioni filogenetiche che continuamente vengono alla luce. Nei giorni scorsi due libri di testo delle scuole elementari sono finiti al centro delle polemiche per lutilizzo di frasi e immagini razziste. Nel libro “Le avventure di Leo” cè una pagina dedicata ai desideri dei bambini per il nuovo anno scolastico. Tra questi, cè limmagine di un bambino nero che pronuncia la frase: «Io volere imparare italiano bene». Nel racconto “Una nuova amica” del libro “Rossofuoco”, invece, un bambino bianco incontra al parco una bambina nera e, considerandola un’aliena, le dice: «Sei sporca o sei nera?». ⠀ Gli editori hanno promesso di eliminare le immagini e i riferimenti, mentre le autrici de “Le avventure di Leo” si sono giustificate dicendo che il loro intento non era discriminatorio, ma di mettere in luce una realtà presente in molte classi: bambini stranieri volenterosi di imparare la lingua italiana. ⠀ Queste giustificazioni ci lasciano molto perplessi. Innanzitutto, perché la multiculturalità nelle nostre classi non si può certo ridurre a un colore della pelle, a un’etnia o a una nazionalità. In classe abbiamo bambini che provengono dai cinque contenenti e quindi ritrarre un bambino nero come esempio di straniero è uno stereotipo abusato e discriminatorio. In secondo luogo, sono ormai tanti i bambini di seconda e terza generazione che sono nati e cresciuti in Italia e che quindi considerano litaliano la loro madrelingua. ⠀ Queste raffigurazioni sono non solo anacronistiche ma anche offensive e rischiano di radicare nei bambini lo stereotipo di “nero” come “straniero” o “sporco” e quindi “inferiore”. La scuola dovrebbe essere lo spazio in cui le disuguaglianze sono sconfitte dalla cultura, il posto della libertà di pensiero per creare dei cittadini che aspirano a creare una società più giusta e inclusiva. La vie en soit n’était pas toujours rose pour lui car, à l’âge de 4 ans il allait faire face à un grave accident ce qui va occasionner la perte de son bras droit.*😞 _🗣Le pourquoi du comment de la perte de son bras a été dans le but d’aller sauver son plus grand frère Ronald de regrettée mémoire, qui était bloqué sous un camion lors d’un accident._😢 *🗣Il essayait de toutes ses forces avec sa sœur Dieunite de le retirer mais malheureusement, le camion qui ne c‘était pas arrêter définitivement, glissa sur leurs bras. En arrivant à l’hôpital, il a pu constater la triste réalité, l’amputation de son bras sans autres recours analysés.*😞 _🗣Certes, on ne peut pas éviter certaines situations chaotiques dans notre vie mais on peut les surmonter par la résilience, voilà une de sa philosophie de vie._🙏🏽 *🗣Pour lui, malgré toutes sortes de rejets et de déceptions qu’il endure jusqu’à présent, ce n’est pas sa plus grande amertume.
