After gradually being worn away by weathering and erosion, this arch was and is currently being formed. This arch in particular is known as delicate arch, and it so mind blowing to see things that have been around so long in person. The original sandstone (entrada sandstone) is said to have formed over 150 million years ago! What do teepees and stationery have to do with one another? Although that sounds like the beginning of a joke, for me it’s about crafting something by ones own hands. It’s what my work is all about. This teepee was made by the Hualapai tribe here in Arizona. They set this up for people to see how they made homes through the years. I am always moved by HAND made necessities. Why are we as humans moved to adorn and decorate something so essential? Why does the form change when the function hasn’t? Why do we go to great lengths to throw beautiful elaborate parties when it’s only a day in life? But we do and have so for thousands of years. Every day the impulse to create useful, beautiful things and share them pulses through me and yet I still question why. My logical mind can’t make sense of it, but my hands continue creating. Those of you who know me, know I LOVE smaller parks! ⠀ The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. Located on the western shore of Matanzas Bay in the city of St. Augustine, Florida, the fort was designed by the Spanish engineer Ignacio Daza. Construction began in 1672, 107 years after the citys founding by Spanish Admiral and conquistador Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, when Florida was part of the Spanish Empire. The forts construction was ordered by Governor Francisco de la Guerra y de la Vega after the destructive raid by the English privateer Robert Searles in 1668. Work proceeded under the administration of Guerras successor, Manuel de Cendoya in 1671, and the first coquina stones were laid in 1672. The construction of the core of the current fortress was completed in 1695, though it would undergo many alterations and renovations over the centuries. Sin embargo, queremos destacar un castillo de revista, un símbolo de La Rioja Alta, Davalillo https://www.xn--castillosdeespaa-lub.es/es/content/davalillo-castillo-de Esta asentado en el lugar donde, en el siglo XI estaba la población de Davalillo y es probable que se construyese durante el reinado de Alfonso VIII para fortalecer la defensa de la zona frente a Navarra. Davalillo fue ganando en importancia, sufriendo muchas transformaciones hasta que a partir de Alfonso X se les dona el lugar de San Asensio para que lo poblasen sus vecinos. El castillo aparece documentado por primera vez cuando Enrique de Trastamara en 1367 lo entrega a Carlos El Malo de Navarra. Tras la guerra entre Pedro I y Enrique II la población decayó pasando, por donación real, a Sancho López de Puelles en 1389 mientras que, el castillo, quedaba en poder de los Manrique, familia a la que quedó vinculado hasta, al menos, el año 1656. Today is the four year anniversary of the accident which transformed my life, a day I have begun to call my leg-o-versary. Change can be a challenge, but also empowering. In four years I am grateful to have been able to travel to the ends of the earth, surf monster waves in Hawaii’s north shore, ride horses through the deserts of Jordan, climb to the highest altitudes i have ever been to, dive through underwater worlds in the Yucatán, hack my way through the jungles of Colombia and Guatemala, and play soccer with my kids in the park. . . None of this was done alone... so many people to thank for believing in and being part of the journey. Thank you Family, friends, and each of you in the world have been the ‘spirit legs’ to fly with! Thank you to @phprosthetics, @cafoundation, @fillauer, and @ossur who have literally given me legs to move through the world with. I am deeply proud and thankful for all my friends at @natgeo and @disneyplus, and the film crews who believed with me that there were no limitations, that being an explorer is all about mindset, and showing that to millions around the globe on their various world empowering platforms;). Most of all I am eternally grateful for my kids who have been 1000000% in this with me, with smiles and love all the way. . I have Nothing but #gratitude, and hoping to show the same love in passing it forward. In that spirit, I am Proud of the work of the students (especially @chefmusicianengineer) with @projectlimbitless who have been working to develop low cost cell phone based 3D printed prosthetics at @ucsandiegoengineering and the @qualcomminstitute. We often get questions about how supporting the Mesa Verde Foundation is different than just going to @MesaVerdeNPS and paying your entrance fee..... . Well, the federal government cannot and does not completely fund our national parks. Financial assistance is needed to maintain and improve parks for present and future generations. Most of the federal funds are used for day-to-day maintenance and operation of structures, buildings, and roads. There’s not much left over for preserving the very things that make Mesa Verde special. Private and public sector collaboration is important throughout the National Park Service and provides important support for parks like Mesa Verde to preserve the park’s unique cultural heritage. Took a little trip to Joshua Tree National Park 🏞️🤙🏽 All the campsites were full so I had to hit the trails for a backpacking adventure. . I wandered through the desert with my backpack and tripod, taking in the beautiful views. Unfortunately, my trip was cut short because I forgot my phone charger which I needed to keep my phone alive to navigate back to my car. Safety first😅 . I cant wait to come back to explore the rest of the park because I didnt have much time to. Even though in essence we have no control over our way of life at this moment, we must remember we still have choice over our free will. We still have the power to choose how long we stay in dark feelings. We still get to choose to see the light in all things. We get to choose knowing that we will be out again, standing under blue skies and sunshine with deep gratitude in our hearts and greater compassion for our fellow humans. With new ways that we will live, work, love and relate to our planet and each other and in all of that, there will be light. Stay strong and choose to hold light in your hearts.
