It’s been quite around here because I recently endured a miscarriage. I have thought long and hard about if I wanted to share this part of my story. I needed a few weeks to attempt to grieve. October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month. We are still nagivagating through. However, I wanted to honor our baby and bring awareness for all the women and families who suffer from this. After treatmeant for AML-APL leukemia I was told I most likely would not have more children. We have pursued some other options and every other option has been a, “no.” I don’t share every detail but I have shared a lot because AWARENESS is SO important! I now know the agony of losing a baby. I’m so so sorry for anyone who has endured the phyiscal and emotional pain and trauma caused by this. Or any type of infertility! Or any type of longing for something or missing someone. It has affected me in ways I could have never imagined and as you know we have been through a lot. This is a different pain. Leukemia is traumatizing, any life altering illness is. This is a different traumatizing! It’s not one and done after a few days or weeks. Cancer isn’t ether but it’s another hard I’m trying to learn to live with. I’ve needed time to physically go through it because the phyiscal effects are painful. However the emotional part is worse. I have shared my thyroid has had issues since I finished chemo. I didn’t realize how important normal range thyroid levels are crucial to how our the human bodies function. Especially how even more critical/life threatening it is for a healthy pregnancy. So once I learned I was pregnant my hematologist also ordered remission labs and thyroid labs and learned my thyroid had plummeted. I had emergency thyroid care and medications, adjustments to medications dosages, plus the fluctuation of hormonal levels due to being pregnant and then then going through a miscarriage. We were so HAPPY the past few months. We almost made it to 11 weeks. I was in almost its, “too good to be true,” denial but also overjoyed our precious miracle baby. *Continued in comments - @leslietysselingbeauty on Instagram

I started documenting weddings almost 8 years ago, and I can say with total honesty that in all these years, I’ve never taken this work for granted, nor have I grown tired of it. The energy and connection of each wedding day is astonishingly unique. All the elements (weather, light, time, space, emotions, etc) are out of my control and changing constantly, which is, for me as a photographer, exhilarating. The beauty, for me, is in the noticing. I feel a deep sense of gratitude for every celebration I take part in. My first wedding of the year was set for early March, which turned out to be the first weekend of the shelter. Our collective safety matters most right now, but I miss my work so much! I’m incredibly thankful for all my 2020 clients, who, in the midst of the stressful postponing and rescheduling of their weddings, have blown me away with their care and support. It’s never been more clear that I love my job. Can’t wait to get back to it. I’m ✨now booking✨ for 2021, and still have some open dates this fall. Yesterday we had reservations in Halfmoon bay at Andreotti Family Farms for Upick Sunflowers 🌻 So many fuzzy catepillars, Luke had a little hitchhiker and never noticed 😂 If you want to check it out, make reservations, they are keeping crowds down and it makes it so much easier. $15 a person, they provide shears, and you can cut 5flowers per person. It is probably appropriate that my c-section scar started twinging this morning. On Mother’s Day. It doesn’t do that very often. I’m sitting in bed with my almost four-month old baby sitting on my knees looking at me. He’s touching his own knees trying to realize what they are while I spin a little ball that makes noise above his face. He’s grabbing my fingers trying to put them in his mouth while also using his monkey feet to kick my hands out of the way. This tiny monster has rebuilt my life for me. What used to be time for reading and writing and selfies and editing is now time for playing and feeding and sleeping and nuzzling. It’s true what they say: that nothing can prepare you for this. There is a magic in motherhood that just evolves on its own inside of you without you really noticing until you look back and see all the ancient instincts at play. I didn’t know what to do when (fill in the kid blank), but yet somehow, I just did it. And while it’s not difficult, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Being a mom is something I’ve dreamt about my entire life, and I’m so grateful to Orion for making me one. He beat out all the other little spermies and while I’m sure they woulda been just as cute and all, I’m pretty attached to this tiny man. Motherhood has been a test of my energy, patience, and wisdom already, and I’m only a few months in. Thank you Jesus for leading me through this, and thank you Forest for being my irreplaceable counterpart and making our life both fun and clean. Thank you to all my amazing ladies for checking in on me and wishing me a happy first Mother’s Day, and thank you to all of the amazing mothers out there who rock it every single day. I’m grateful for the little twinges in my scar. I like the reminder to look back on Orion’s birthday and remember how badly I wanted him and how incredibly happy I am now.
