R.I.P. Captain Edwin Wayne Magwood 9-11-20. Captain Wayne Magwood took this Yankee under his wing after I did a photography book on him and showed me everything he knew about shrimping. He made me a deckhand and boy did we have some adventures. He treated me as family and even as a son...always giving me advice, checking on me and making sure that if I needed anything, ANYTHING, that he would provide it, no matter what or when... Also, he adored my son Johann and always had a surprise for him. I really cant describe the adoration, respect, love and appreciation I have for him and his family and will be forever in their debt. She was buried with her grandparents and great grandparents in her hometown of Tripoli, Lebanon, a city of Sufis and delicious sweets. A legacy she and her family were an active part of. My father passed away on Tuesday, June 2. My babisko ,my best friend, muse of my “experimental art” projects is now my guardian angel. Getting personal but ... I just wanted to thank my lovely friends who supported me so much throughout the years. He thought me not to take life for granted and to be happy with what you have between moments. He fought a lot to be with us, had strength i can never understand. He needs to be on a medical journal for real. I always teased him calling him Terminator. I hope he’ll watch me make it happen and be proud of me. He, a film nerd, always wanted me to make a sci-fi film, I don’t know about that one :) I couldn’t be by his side for the past month as there’re still no flights back to Istanbul. (It’s hard being separated from family during grief, if anyone you know is going thru something similar hit me up) Everyday I’m grateful for his liver transplant donor, I think about him and his family often but especially today. If they only knew that it gave me 6 extra beautiful years with my dad. Last week, I lost my first real hero and someone who raised me into the man I am today. After 8 long, hard-fought years with cancer, you went to join your dad up in heaven. My third day on #Route66 brought me into Moriarty, NM where I spotted a 20+ acre yard packed with old cars, many of which from the 1930’s, my era of choice. The owner? His name is #ArchieLewis, an 86 year old New Mexico native who’s love for cars started in 1945 when he bought his first #ModelT for $40, a car he still owns to this day. As you can see, Archie isn’t much of a seller but nevertheless I really enjoyed my afternoon shooting the breeze with him and taking in the stories of a man who has seen it all. Thanks Archie, you were the highlight of my day! Con te ho passato gran parte della mia infanzia e credo che tutto quello che sono oggi per la stragande maggioranza lo devo a te. Sei l’uomo che mi ha insegnato tutto. Mi hai insegnato che la fortuna non esiste. Mi hai insegnato che la tenacia e la forza di volontá sono alla base di tutto. Sei partito da gommista e sei volato in Argentina diventando dirigente di una delle più grosse multinazionali del mondo. Sei sempre stato il mio esempio di vita e lo sarai sempre nonostante l’assenza di quest’ultima. Dentro di me sapevo che prima o poi questo giorno sarebbe arrivato ma... scusami non riusciró mai ad abituarmi a queste cose. Ogni volta che succede una parte di me crolla e un altra diventa più forte perchè sa che dovrà andare avanti sempre più sola. Nei hai passate tante negli ultimi anni, ti ho visto sparire a poco a poco nella nebbia e nell’ultimo periodo sono venuto a trovare solo il tuo ricordo... Tramandare i ricordi è stato fondamentale per te: penso che tu sia l’unico nonno al mondo che in ereditá mi ha lasciato terabyte di video storici di famiglia, con annesse lettere e spiegazioni di ogni situazione. Hai sempre filmato tutto, chissà da chi ho preso la passione per i video :) Sei sempre stato orgoglioso di me, ma non ti sei mai reso conto che quello che sono diventato è solo grazie a te.
