Base23 works on this metaphor by installing a graphically abstract, oversized construction site in the room. For him, this symbolizes the as yet incomplete discussion and/or conflict, in terms of content it relates to the “repairing” and “renewing” of a place, in this case the solution to a problem, the “renewal” or “repair” of social interaction within a group of people. The symbol of a construction site is also confirmed by the chosen location: an empty garage that is torn down and gives way to a new building - in the figurative sense a new beginning. Inspired by his place of residence Berlin and the permanent location of large construction sites, house renovations and construction sites in road traffic/local traffic, the artist finds analogies of apparently banal things here and in previous projects. He puts them in a new context in order to irritate the viewer who knows this learned visual language from his own urban living space. This effect is enhanced by color, light and dimension. The work consists of two parts visually. When entering the room, everything appears white - the walls, the windows, the installation. Stephen Knapp has been making work that is transformed by light for over thirty years, producing vibrant light installations he refers to as paintings. These large-scale works utilize minimal tools, harnessing simply light and dichroic glass to throw a multitude of colors against the walls and room. The installations are not sketched out beforehand or programmed by computer, but rather created during the installation process as Knapp moves intuitively to choreograph his intricate light patterns. “The fun of what I do with light, is that there is nothing in our visual memory that prepares us for what I’m doing,” said Knapp in a short film about his work. “The fact that what I create can just be done with light, that there is no paint on these panels, is absolutely astounding to people. What I am trying to do most of all here is challenge any traditional notion of perception. What is it? Is it real? Is it not real? Does it matter?” These works have been featured in solo exhibitions around the country including the Boise Art Museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Naples Art Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the Flint Institute of Art, among others. FCB —————————————————— FCB was shot on my Alexa Mini with some very old Zeiss Superspeeds with light black promist on the front (Couldnt get my filtration of choice - black satin fx). This setup gave us a wonderfully soft texture, which really fit the period setting of the film. • We shot several sequences at the soundstage, mostly surrealistic metaphorical spaces for the debate between our main characters. The majority of it had us on the cinejib (read: hot dog) on tracks. It was what was available, and definitely not a setup that was changed quickly. However, considering that we had a large featured cast, it gave us the ability to run proper developing masters for all the scenes without having to focus too much on converage, which definitely helped the storytelling and scene pacing. It was also the only way we could cover the lion dance stuff up high! Its a beautiful thing though, to be able to move from a closeup 2.5m in the air to a wide on the ground. 👊Its been a while since some news for BMX Streets, mind you Im still grinding every single day. Ive committed to a complete overhaul... New physics, animation, gameplay audio etc. Dialing firecrackers down stairs, holding all the limbs to the bars and pedals, popping on and off wall rides.. there are a million things that are unique to BMX that I want to be incorporated in BMX Streets, and these things do not come quick nor easy. Compared to other sports/sports games, BMX is ridiculously complicated due to its non-symmetrical movements. Should I have just done a board sports game?.... Recently we developed a concept about food recycling, that was born during our thesis with @pdragonas, into a pandemic architecture proposal for an enclosed ecosystem that would minimize food miles. Subsequently the necessity for the residents to leave home are minimized dramatically. A proper quarantine needs to be sustainable and food-sufficient.
