A little project that I have been working on with @cat_bacon and @tuttiq.me was featured on the front page of @thejapantimes yesterday! @speakherjp is a database of women in Japan with the intention of removing the excuse of manels (all-male panels). This idea was first pitched to me by @tokyopingu. I took the idea and asked Tutti if she wanted to work on a weekend coding project with me. No progress was made until Tutti got Ann on board. Blatantly and scientifically impossible, but by bullying and intimidating a qualified scientist with a legal letter, their BS claim can go unchallenged. Sephora saying that they now have a ‘chemicals policy’ and are working towards a ‘chemical-free’ store is sadly, not a joke. And this is especially concerning: ‘Sephora is working with industry partners and suppliers to make sure that safer ingredients are used, and that its suppliers have access to them.’ So essentially, Sephora, a retailer, is telling brands, all of whom use cosmetic scientists and labs when formulating their products, what to do. Instead of just doing some basic due diligence when on-boarding a new brand, they will now be able to bully and control brands that they already sell into removing safe ingredients from their products just because they (Sephora) have decided they ‘may’ cause a problem. And I wonder what suppliers they will push brands towards? Perhaps ones that Sephora may have an interest in? We can only hope that brands push back. And hard. The last time we did an online action was May 7th... with another one planned for this past Monday (Sept 21st). Unfortunately, our plans were put on hold when FB suddenly put a 3 day ban on hundreds of accounts. • • Entire organizations had accounts frozen, and all admins, moderators, and editors had their personal accounts frozen - as well as any pages connected to them. • • The notice (as previously posted), cited the intellectual property policy. The notice stated that we could be permanently banned if we posted anything which “infringes or violates others rights”... by posting an online petition. • • So, we would have been allowed out of “fb jail” a day after our next online action (how convenient for KKR, who we understand is very adverse to negative press). • • We had an amazing team contact fb, who re-instated accounts, saying “it was a mistake”. Now, it could be a mistake... but why would this particular “mistake” be made 4 months after the post was made, and 2 days before the next action? • • So... we will persist. We will continue to exercise our rights to peaceful online actions - despite possible (probable) corporate censorship. • • Next online action this coming Monday - September 28th. I have some exciting news, but it also requires me to share my biggest secret publicly... juicy! About a month ago I submitted to a COVID filmmaking challenge by Wayfarer, and it has just been announced that I was one of five selected to make their project!! They will be funding and creatively guiding me thru the process of making a ~feature~ film in the next few months... still a very crazy thing to say. The premise of my film is very personal, which leads me to the aforementioned secret, as it is based on something I’ve kept very private— I have Cystic Fibrosis. “What, I had no idea!” Yeah, that was kinda my intention. I’ve kept it private for many different reasons that have felt less dire as I went thru college, and at this point, one of the reasons I continued to keep it so secret is that it’s just the way it’s always been. It’s a big change to flip that switch and post about it publicly, but hopefully this (and my forthcoming film) may remind u that all those “vulnerable” people you keep talking about are in closer proximity than you think :) anyway, I’m feeling a lot like Jack in the last picture, very excited and also 🥺🥺 - @julianne_foxy on Instagram

Queer & Trans South Asians Creatives, APPLY!! 2018 it was a South Asian dope AF writer and brotherfriend @sameergardezi who gave me a writers room around my life/my queerstory. I never wouldve thought a South Asian cis/straight person would even see the value in putting resources behind me. I oftentimes get a leg up by queer folks and usually non-South Asian BIPOC queer folks...Unless youre dope and sisterfriend director @nisha.ganatra who in 2013 got me an audition for an ep of Transparent:) Both these folks are trailblazers, both have been helping ALL BIPOC creatives for so long. Both have been invested in community. AND now, we have @nikdodani who as a gay South Asian has collaborated with friends to get this mentorship going. So South Asian Queer/Trans folx, please jump on this. Its important to get our stories out there and to have our people support them. Deadline: In the conversation of Asian and Asian American representation in film and TV, the South Asian community tends to be overlooked. In an effort to bolster South Asian visibility in front of and behind the camera, Reena Singh, Senior Vice President of Current Programming at Twentieth Television, and @rishirajani Rishi Rajani, President of Production and Development at Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Productions, are launching a mentorship program with The Salon, a collective of South Asian creatives in Hollywood created by literary manager Bash Naran and actor-producers @nikdodani Nik Dodani (Atypical) and Vinny Chhibber (The Red Line). The inaugural mentorship program is slated to kick off in October.The year-long program will be led by Singh and Rajani and will connect aspiring South Asian talent to established members of the entertainment industry.
