The first 2-3 weeks of college is the best time to say hi to literally everyone. They’re all just as nervous as you’re going to be and they want to make new friends too. These ones will be the ones to stick with you all 4 years. 2. TRY NEW, DIFFERENT THINGS! College is about self discovery. The best way to find out what you like is to find out what you don’t like. 3. If someone asks you, “what are your plans after college?” It’s perfectly okay to say I’m here to figure that out. (Can’t stress this one enough) 4. Don’t let anyone else’s expectations shape your choices. That includes me, our parents, your professors, or your friends. Anyone who really cares about you won’t care or judge what you choose. 5. Today we slowly started to welcome our students back to campus. Our Peer Mentors, Resident Advisers, and Orientation Coordinators rocked it all day long!! For new and returning students, don’t forget your first stop on your check-in day is in the ASEC parking lot, where you will receive your welcome bag. From there you will go get tested! So far, testing has been taking 5-10 minutes and results emailed within 24 hours. . I miss this community, and in seeing many of your faces in passing or at the food bank over the past few weeks, I have heard you miss it too. This will not be the same Run Wild Cle that we know. There will not be hugs or high fives, no hand-holding partner exercises, tight packed huddles, or post run brewery hangs. But there will great people, a hard workout, and good vibes to head into your weekend. We have laid out guidelines to make this a safe space for everyone. - We ask that everyone wear a mask as you arrive and gather before the run. You don’t not need to run with a mask on but if you plan to run close to others for an extended period of time, please wear one. - We ask that all body weight exercises are performed with a 6 foot distance. - If you plan to stay after and socialize, we ask you put your mask back on until you leave. - We will have hand sanitizer at the ready for anyone that may want it We will not be at our typical locations - some of our favorite locations are also very popular with Clevelanders so to decrease risk, we’ll be meeting at some other spots that we may not have been to before. if you know me you know i don’t cry. and i have cried a lot these past few days with the fear of my senior year looking a lot different than expected. that reality came to light yesterday afternoon. i am usually good with words, but right now it seems as though none can do justice to my emotions. wku started out being just a college in my hometown. but over the past four years wku gave me more than i thought was possible and what I needed. there is something special about wku and the people you meet while you are there. and i think that is what hurts the most not experiencing all the “lasts” with those people. or that goodbyes were said without even realizing it, basic graduation pictures at the colonnades won’t happen, and walking across diddle proud of what we did here will not happen for the class of 2020. to the goodbye I could have never predicted, wku thank you for teaching the true meanings of: life more life and most importantly the spirit makes the master. for the final time, go tops! ❤️ - @maddiemcclure__ on Instagram

🌳Prospect Hill Park is OPEN!🌳Incredible, beautiful, historic, public green space is ready for the next 100 years. Enjoy, everyone! THANK YOU to everyone in the neighborhood and at @somervillecity @somervilleparks who has worked so hard to make this project happen. The park was dedicated in 1903 (though George Washington was here for the first US flag flying a while before that.) Today is a moment to think about how much history this park has seen, and how much more it will see. Photos also show Somerville hero Dick Bauer, who worked so hard to pass the #CommunityPreservationAct in Somerville, a great small tax that goes specifically to affordable housing, open space, historical preservation. This park is a “two-fer” - historic and open space ❤️ One of the best changes to come from this rehabilitation is the accessibility improvements - there is now ADA access throughout the park, including a whole new path along the bottom of the tower. The institute, which trains students who will go on to work at one of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group’s hotels, encompasses a 2,50,000-square-feet building carefully embedded in 5 acres of untouched forested terrain. Architecture firm Morphogenesis (@morphogenesis.official) founded by Manit and Sonali Rastogi, designed the structure to cohabit with nature—a philosophy that they express with the acronym ‘SOUL.’ “It means sustainable, optimised, unique, and liveable,” explains Sonali. “Educational institutions especially lend themselves to this philosophy.” # The northern end of the campus is bordered by a dense Neem forest, which Rastogi was eager to preserve and incorporate into her design for the building. “Jyotsna Suri is herself quite a visionary, and very sustainable and design-oriented in her thinking,” Sonali says of the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Hotels Ltd., which owns the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group. “So whilst the reaction could have been to remove the forest, we decided to work together with the forest. I also find that there is no better way to make people live in a sustainable way than through education.” Morphogenesis was careful to design the building’s open corridors to face the foliage—so that the need for air-conditioning was minimised, and students could feel like they were truly cohabiting with nature. Located in South Village near Roemer Arboretum and the newly renovated Red Jacket dining hall, its the only residence hall with a gym (closed Fall 2020)—making it a popular choice for student athletes ⚽🏀. - The suites in Suffolk Hall are built for four, five, or six people. Were 👏👏👏 for Reece Thompson, one of the winners of Indiana Landmarks 2020 Sandi Servaas Memorial Award.⁠ ⁠ In 2016, a diminutive sign on a wooden post and four unremarkable gravestones near a farm field in Thorntown offered the only hint of the site’s history as a final resting place for the community’s early African American residents. Reece was looking for an Eagle Scout project when he learned about the cemeterys significant heritage. Today through his efforts, a decorative fence surrounds restored gravestones, and a new marker offers deeper interpretation of the cemetery’s heritage.⁠ ⁠ To develop a preservation plan, Reece met with cemetery trustees, a local newspaper editor, library historian, state officials, county attorney, and scout leaders, and formed the Colored Cemetery Committee. He collected donations, secured permits and a corporate sponsor, wrote grants, and rallied 28 volunteers to help repair headstones. He raised money to fund a ground penetrating radar study of the grounds, install a decorative fence around its boundaries, and erect an Indiana Historical Bureau marker noting its historical significance. For the restored sites dedication in August 2019, Reece Thompson located and invited descendants of those buried in the cemetery to attend as guests of honor. ⁠ ⁠ At Indiana Landmarks virtual annual meeting this Saturday, September 12, well honor Reece and other preservation leaders.
