Whhhyyy do we make due with things that are relatively easy to fix? Why do we settle when a change could significantly improve our lives? Im talking about drawer held together with tape and prayers. Im talking about toxic relationships. Im talking about jobs that suck the life out of us. Firstly, I want to acknowledge that there can be situations that simply cannot be changed right now. Jobs that must be kept. Seasons we must weather. But I want to focus on the change we can make. Change can be like flipping a switch or a long, grueling process. Heres a personal example. Around 8 years or so, my eyesight was getting worse. Partially genetics and partially due to student life staring at a computer screen. I had glasses for driving (nearsighted) but preferred to use them as little as possible. Quirk of mine - I have a sensitive head. I dont like stuff on it as I get a weird twitch or pain - e.g. ponytails, masks (I grin and bear it) and glasses. This was especially the case at the gym as it was another think to worry about when doing box jumps or a plank. However, it was getting a bit ridiculous. I could no longer see further than 10 and would rather pretend I didnt see someone than get the contacts. I prefected the line, oh so sorry, I was in the zone!. This carried on for months, maybe even a year when I finally bit the bullet and got contacts (thankfully, I had health coverage). Oh man. Let me tell you. I heard a hallelujah choir as I surveyed the gym through literally new eyes. I could not get the smile off my face and still to this day am so thankful for contacts. I remember feeling did silly. Like, why did I put up with the poor eyesight for so long? Was there a defining moment that things changed? Im not sure. While writing this post, I thought of a quote by Anthony Robbins: Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change. I can think of many examples in my own life where this is true. Reflect: Is there a change youve been wanting to make? Whats holding you back? What do you need to make the change?
