I was yesterday years old when I discovered that I am a (distant) descendant of a slave owner. Turns out, my great great great great great great grandfather Josiah was the owner of an enslaved African man known only as “Caesar.” So yesterday, my dad and I went to a small burial ground in rural Massachusetts to clean his grave . I don’t really know what to make of this new discovery of my descendency except to say that it has affected me quite profoundly and saddened me deeply. It breaks my heart that my family lineage, no matter how far back, participated in any way in the shameful and grotesque institution of slavery . America was built on the backs of men like Caesar for the benefit of men like my ancestor Josiah. That legacy is very much alive and well today. Oktober 2020 jeweils von 11 bis 17 Uhr sein Refugium und unterhält die Besucher und Besucherinnen dort mit Histörchen und Anekdoten zur Martini-Kirche und den Türmen. An diesen drei Tagen können Sie individuell den Aufstieg wagen. Hierfür ist keine Anmeldung erforderlich. Auf Wunsch vieler Gäste haben wir noch weitere Turmöffnungszeiten möglich gemacht. 👉Am 26. September, 10. Oktober und 24. Oktober 2020 erwartet Sie das Museumsteam um 11.30 Uhr im Städtischen Museum, Domplatz 36 und führt Sie dann zu den Türmen der Martinikirche. Nach über 100 Treppenstufen im Wendelgang erhalten Sie oben angelangt, natürlich nach einer kurzen Verschnaufpause, die Gelegenheit ausgiebig den Blick gen Brocken, Domplatz und Börde zu genießen sowie sich anhand einer kleinen Ausstellung über die Türme und ihre Geschichte zu informieren. 👉Der Eintritt zu den Martini-Türmen beträgt an allen Terminen 4 Euro für Erwachsene und 2 Euro für Kinder ab 6 Jahren.
