Ricardo Legorreta. Vallarta series, Mexico 1972. Ricardo Legorreta is one of contemporary Mexican architecture´s most talented, prolific and renowned creators from Latin America during the XX Century. Legorreta reached his mature style with the groundbreaking Camino Real Hotel (1968) in Mexico City, one of many buildings raised in the capital in the years preceding the Mexico City Olympic Games. Legorreta’s style combined many of the aspects of the International Style with elements derived from the climate, colors, and architectural history of Mexico. His projects incorporated luxurious volumes, thick walls, gridded windows, long corridors, grand airy spaces, and, very often, his signature colors. His oeuvre merges two of the most representative trends in modern Mexican architecture, functionalism and emotional architecture, inherited from both his teachers, José Villagrán and Luis Barragán. Polychromy became one of the most recognizable characteristics of Legorreta’s work, although his greatest merit was knowing how to transporting the concept of “emotional architecture” into the monumental scale, which in Luis Barragán had not transcended the sphere of the home. Legorreta also paid a lot of attention on his interiors, which he considered an integral part of the process, where he brought his experience in the design of furniture and accessories as well as the selection of art. His spaces are imbued with warm textures and colors, with natural materials like terracotta, wood and textiles, and with refined details displaying indigenous craftsmanship, all delicately balanced. Rare French 1940’s vintage Multipl’s metal dining chairs... Designed by Joseph Mathieu and made in Pierre Benite in Lyon . These chairs are an iconic part of Industrial French History. Each chair was hand pressed in huge industrial presses before being hand welded together. The chairs are in their original paint showing wear commensurate with their age. These chairs make an exceptional design statement but are also a good practical scale as a dining chair for regular use. Multipl’s was, in its day the competitor to Tolix, although sadly Multipl’s did not survive. First time getting to see Delicate Arch in Utah. Other than getting to see and capture this natural landmark for the first time, it was also great getting to meet so many different people while we were there. Once we got there there we realized how many other people also wanted to see the Delicate Arch. We decided to wait it out until nighttime since we would be capturing Astro from behind the Arch. Throughout the night we were all in great company as a handful of people who stayed got to know one another as we admired the arch from up under the stars. The Ahmed Baba Institute was established to house and restore this scattered collection. 🎵Carrion my wayward son🎵 If you look to the sky above Tonto National Monument, you may notice this seasonal resident. Often seen riding thermals in a wobbly circle, turkey vultures, soar above in search of carrion. Instead of hunting down prey, these birds clean up the countryside by using their noses to find already dead animals (carrion). Regardless of how the animal died (predator, disease, car), these birds dive down and begin to feast. Luckily for them, their bright red head is featherless to help them stay clean in the process. A Ravello un breve ma violento acquazzone ha costretto l’organizzazione del Ravello Festival a spostare il concerto dell’Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo all’Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer. Il debutto di Marco Armiliato in Campania e al Ravello Festival quindi c’è stato ma non sul palco del Belvedere di Villa Rufolo. All’auditorium, e questo non è un segreto, la bellezza del panorama che fa da sfondo al palco sospeso sul mare del Golfo di Salerno, lascia il posto ad una maggiore gratificazione in termine di suono e di acustica. English: Sunday marked one year home… I think the greatest privilege that came with serving a mission was falling in love with a people and a place—so profoundly that now, 12 months later, my heart aches more than it ever has to be back with my Uruguayan family. It was a privilege because it was a chance to feel as the Savior did when He came to earth to perform His own mission, which would require Him to love a people, in fact, all people. I just feel utterly and unconditionally grateful to have been given love like Christ’s love. I assure you, there is no greater happiness. May we seek opportunities to love without reserve or hesitation and see each other in the way that Jesus sees us—in the way that Jesus sees you — “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31) If I have learned one thing since I have been home, it’s that God knows you are good, and He loves you apart from what you do. I spent (almost) the entire trip shooting on the @sigmaphoto 35 1.2 Art. Now, while this isn’t a paid sponsorship (sigma 👀👀) I cannot explain how much I love this piece of glass. I’ve fallen back in love with the 35, not just because of the 1.2 but the focal length used to be one of favourites and I pushed it away when I was introduced to the 14mm and then the 16-35. I loved the wideness of the 14 but liked the 16mm focal length better (less distortion, but it’s still there..) and then I was forced into either renting or buying a lens, and I hate spending money on something to have to return it. So I went from the idea of a renting a lens to buying this lens. It’s sharp, fast and accurate in its focus. I loved it for astrophotography, and even more for video. “Weathering Time” I always find myself chasing light, which means putting extensive miles on my car. Often rerouting to and from the same location multiple times in a day, seeking the best conditions for the composition in mind. For this image, I started the day in my condo in Columbia Falls noticing some break in the cloud coverage above toward the south.. The ceiling was low, but it looked to be lifting, albeit, slowly. I headed toward Flathead Lake, taking the easier, slower east side route. As I rounded to the south end of the lake, I noticed streaking light rays lighting up the foothills to the west. Clouds continued to break and more sun was peeking out. I stopped by this gorgeous relic (out of respect for one of the neighbors, I wont reveal the location). I waited about an hour, as I watched the light dance around the valley, but then suddenly it closed up. I was disappointed, but knew I had plenty of time for more opportunities. I then proceeded to the Mission Dam, where I spent the afternoon capturing afternoon light hitting the mountain backdrop at the east end. By the end of the session, I noticed the whole valley sky was opening up, therefore, I raced back to my original location and found light hitting the building as well as the mountain tops-perfect conditions! I took many exposures, but waited until I had a mix of light and shade to make for a more dynamic photo...I was lucky since the dark clouds swirled just above the peaks, but still exposing most of them. Not long after, the clouds descended again and swallowed up the range. The people of this town are my life. They are who fuel my work, they are what inspire me. This quarantine is going to be rough, but I have to remember that we are in this as one. I started this series as a way for me to be creative during a time where I was uninspired. All shows canceled, public events shut down, and social distancing became my creative enemy. This series was only a day, but from what began as a way to create during a crisis, became something that healed my need to be with people. I was able to be a part of people’s lives in a time where social interaction is few and far in between. The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, one of the Great Twelve City Livery Companies, is an ancient merchant guild of the City of London first founded in 1371. The guild is mainly associated with the cloth trade - especially the decorative elements such as hats, silk ribbons, goatskin leather gloves etc. In this photo you can see a group of students from Hatcham College in South-East London, who the photographer stumbled on taking a special class in the Haberdashers’ Hall. Lounge Chair by Grete Jalk, 1963.⠀ ⠀ The so-called GJ chair is constructed of two folded plywood pieces. The deceptively simple construction was achieved through such a complex process of lamination that only about three hundred were produced in the 1960s (the design was reissued in 2009). Unusually for a woman, Jalk had apprenticed as a cabinetmaker and studied furniture, at the Copenhagen Royal Academy of Fine Arts with Kaare Klint, before establishing her own design office. One of her earliest projects as an independent designer was a 1947 furniture set for a self-supporting womans den. Wow, 10 years ago I signed the lease for my first @BaristaParlor in East Nashville. It took me over a year to build it out but eventually I was able to open and accomplish what seemed like, for many years, an impossible dream. There are so many to thank over the years and BP is now 5 locations plus a roasting company with 2 more locations (W Hotel & Sylvan Supply) opening Q2 next year! We also have a number of new products launching very soon and more 2021 surprises, so here’s to 10 more years! I’m always looking ahead and often don’t take the time to stop and appreciate everything so here I’m doing it, ESPECIALLY after how 2020 has been on small business! Even with all the added responsibilities in my life, and the weight of a growing company full of employees that I want to make sure I continue to take care of, it is an absolute dream to do what I love for a living. Here, my pops snapped this peel-apart Polaroid, I just found in a box, on our first day which is so rad. I’ll also never forget bringing my mom by this crazy broken down dump of a space right after I signed the lease before I started on the build. Unfortunately she passed away before I opened and I was never able to serve my mom coffee at BP but I remember her smile and she’d tell me how proud she was even when I’m sure I looked like an insane person for signing a lease for this space. These last couple weeks have been pretty hard. Last week my dad had a mild heart attack and has been in the hospital since. Yesterday he had open heart surgery and thankfully is doing very well, but when you’re 3,000 miles away from your family it’s pretty rough. My mom & sister aren’t allowed to visit because of COVID which leaves my dad alone besides the nurses & doctors. I’m thankful for the constant communication between my mom & I but also the times I’ve been able to FaceTime my dad and have a good laugh here and there. He’s in the ICU currently and hopefully gets to go home on Monday. Thankful for all the support from my dads work, family, and friends. My whole family is pretty exhausted and constantly on alert. I shot this in Trona, California last year. I choose this picture because the town is extremely isolated. Trona was set up purely for mining in 1913 and is named after the chemical Trona. The town has this chemical feel to it, like it’s been burnt. Nothing green can grow there as it’s so hot and the soil is extremely acidic. There’s something crazy about the combination of infertile soil and a settlement. Brutal, naturally I loved it. An old flame! It’s been nearly a decade since we completed RDKM - Raif Dinçkök Cultural Center. Location: Yalova, Turkey Client: Akkök Holding Built area: 5.700 sqm. Perforated weather-resistant steel with a rusty surface was chosen for exterior surfaces, in a kind of homage to industry and to the resilient forces of nature. Air and light penetrate this steel skin. A multi-purpose room with a capacity of 600 persons, a workshop for up to 150 people, wedding and exhibition rooms and an office and cafeteria are part of the scheme within specific volumes that are disconnected from the building façade. These functional volumes are connected to each other by a ramp that forms a sheltered inner street. Recreational and service areas are situated between the functional volumes. . Its National Park Week!!! Did you know there are over 150 #NationalHistoricLandmarks located in national park units? These four structures were designed by architect and interior designer Mary Jane Colter, built by Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway, and managed by its concessioner, the Fred Harvey Company. Hopi House (1905), modeled after a Hopi pueblo, was built to merchandise Indigenous handicrafts in a historically accurate environment. Hermits Rest, a refreshment stand, and the Lookout, both dating from 1914, were designed to appear as if they had grown out of the rocky landscape. Colters last major structure on the South Rim, Desert View Watchtower, was completed in 1932, long after the establishment of @grandcanyonnps . Modeled after an Anasazi tower, it has notable interior spaces based on circular forms. All four structures respect their incomparable settings and reflect the cultural heritage of the area. I have decided to call this series, “walking in two worlds.” These amazing people are first in their cultural regalia and then in street wear. I invite everyone and anyone to participate in their culture. If you are intimidated or unsure how to participate please reach out to someone and just ask. I am only 1/4 Native American and I didn’t grow up consistently participating so when I had a desire to start I was very intimidated. There was so many things I wanted to do but never did because I thought it wasn’t allowed for me. It wasn’t until college that I decided that it’s in my blood and I want to be proud of that. So I started asking for help and guidance on how to respectfully participate. The sense of community has gone a long way for me!
