A note as of June 2020 “Overcrowding of parking lots and trails can cause temporary closures. This is a fluid situation designed to control the amount of vehicles and visitors at any given time. The Park Commission is excited to announce the opening of the spray park located at Mercer County Park, next to the Marina in West Windsor. The new installment features a shade structure with tables underneath and a variation of in-ground sprays, cascading mists of water, and colorful sprayers and sprinklers. The spray park will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays ONLY from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. To allow for park patrons to utilize the spray park and maximize social distancing under current COVID-19 regulations, a 25-person capacity and 45-minute allotted time system is in place. With this mural, I didn’t want to steer away from the theme of nature surrounding the area, so I made sure that was the focus by including my own interpretation of flora and fauna. On this day..... On June 10 1692, Bridget Bishop, the first person to be tried in court on charges of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials, was executed at Proctor’s Ledge. Her body was placed in a crevice at Proctor’s Ledge as witches could not have a proper burial. Bridget was arrested and examined on April 19 and was held for trial. On June 2, she was tried and convicted of witchcraft. Her execution was 8 days later. Bridget was any easy target for accusation as she had a undesirable past, including a previous accusation for witchcraft (for which she was acquitted). The many accusations against her included the murder of her two previous husbands, men who did construction work to her basement found poppets in the walls, she bewitched the Shattuck’s son who became ill, the stealing of various items including a mill brass, having her imps harass her neighbor, and the sight of Bridget flying over her own orchard, among many other charges. Ten neighbors testified against her at her trial. Bridget is often confused for Sarah Bishop as they were both married to men called Edward Bishop. Bridget lived in Salem Town and owned an orchard. Welcome news for Costa Mesas kids and families! The City of Costa Mesa will reopen its park playgrounds on Sept. 30. The California Department of Public Health issued new guidance for playgrounds and other outdoor recreational facilities. Of course, the public health guidance still applies like Social Distancing and wearing of masks is required for all participants over the age of 2. There will be signage posted at each location. We are all so thankful to open our playgrounds! The new guidance applies to outdoor playgrounds located in parks, campgrounds, and other publicly accessible locations. Today is National Childrens Gardening Day! Have your little ones been dabbling in the garden over lockdown, growing sunflowers, tomatoes or maybe some vegetables! If you dont have a garden, how about using a yoghurt pot, margarine tub or empty plastic bottle? Old pots like these are the ideal size for sowing small clusters of seeds, herbs or larger seeds individually. Before using them you will need to punch some drainage holes into the bottom and cut the top off bottles! Then you can sit them on your windowsill, water regularly and watch them grow! Parents, we have the good news you’ve been waiting for! The State released guidance yesterday allowing outdoor playgrounds to reopen with modifications. You will see our staff taking down tape, disinfecting the playgrounds, and putting up signage with State guidance today. We are excited to have you back! 🤸👏🤩🥳🤸‍♂️      We know many of you want to return to Adventure Playground, and we look to have that open by this weekend. More details to come.       Per the State, playground visitors must comply with specific guidelines including wearing masks (for anyone over age 2) and maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet apart. I took our youngest on an adventure date today. He wanted to try a new park. Lucky for him, I keep a huge list of places we need to visit. 😂 And off to Sugarhouse Park we went. This was our first time and we were amazed at how HUGE this park is. There is so much space—lots of open grass, huge trees, a big pond, a creek, and this really fun playground.
