The Waipapa Point Lighthouse is built on a platform on a small hill overlooking the ocean and the Antarctic continent. The isolated cape Waipapa lighthouse is a paradise for wild sea lions. - Spent the night in the pacific northwest. Absolutely no light pollution makes me happy!
2 days back on the Bernina pass in Switzerland, for the milkyway in the background, I used my new 90mm 2.8 Macro which is incredible sharp. The panorama took me 2 out of the 3 hours we had darkness. The result is a 600 MP tracked Milkyway shot which will be coming the next days. This is a composite with a picture taken in the blue hour. Not everything I post is ready to print especially my Milkyway shots as im still learning how to shoot and edit for printing, this particular image which was posted before with a different edit caught the attention of someone and they really wanted it so I had to re visit it and try to make it work. 6 Minutes over Joshua Tree National Park, July 2019 This is the first August in 8 years that I didn’t make it out at least one evening for night photography. Between Covid and the excessive heat I decided to play it safe. So I grabbed a frame from one of last summer’s vertical panos to see what I could do with it as a stand alone image. I was surprised to see my exposure was 6 minutes using the Skywatcher Star Adventurer. The extra detail and lower noise is a joy to work with. The diffraction spikes coming from Jupiter are an optical byproduct of the lens I used and not a post processing trick. One interesting aspect to this particular evening was the 7.1 earth quake that shook the region. Amazingly we didn’t feel a thing! I rarely post a Milky Way photo with out some type of stacking, usually in deep sky stacker with a ton of photos and usually with dark, flat and bias frames. I was out the other night and shot some single exposures with the zeiss batis 25mm f2. Was extremely happy with these, being a 10 second exposure, iso 3200 at f2 I was surprised with how much light this lens lets in over such a short single exposure. I actually now prefer this lens over the Sony 24mm gm 1.4. Shot on monday at Mount Laguna. Shot on Sony a7rii - zeiss batis 25mm at f2, iso 3200, 10” seconds - no extra processing in photoshop, just a simple split tone in Lightroom mobile. - @bclimbss on Instagram

The Two Guns KOA Campground was operational through the 1960s to the 1980s. There were several different owners throughout the years offering Indian Souvenirs, a small zoo, the Apache Death Cave, a shell Gas station and a campground. There is no official statement as to why it was closed down, but its closing coincides with Two Guns itself turning into a ghost town. . The town of Two Guns is full of Native American history. One notable event was that it was the site of a mass murder of Apaches by their Navajo enemies in 1878. A group of Apaches had hid in a cave at Two Guns to avoid detection, but were discovered by the Navajos, who lit sagebrush fires at the caves exit and shot any Apaches trying to escape. The fire asphyxiated 42 Apaches, after which they were stripped of their valuables. The murder site is referred to as the death cave. . During the winter of 1879-80, Billy the Kid and his outlaw gang hid in the ruins of a stone house and corral on the west rim of Canyon Diablo, across from Two Guns. - @bandosociety on Instagram

31 Aug 2020. The Galaxys Made of Cheese 🧀🌘 Fans of the claymation short films, “Wallace & Gromit”, will tell you that it’s the Moon–and not the Milky Way–that’s made of cheese. There was a proverb, from the year 1546, that spoke of the Moon being made of green cheese. Apparently, this saying was used at the time to describe people who would be so gullible as to believe such a thing. 🌌 🥛 I admit that it’s self-evident that the Milky Way is made of milk, of course! The long-defunct cheese factory in my photo, atop a small rise next to the Princes Highway at Bumbo, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, gave me the inspiration for the name of today’s nightscape photo. The idea of photographing the former fromage factory, under the Milky Way, came from a friend I was visiting during June of 2019 on a long-weekend break on the coast. At around 1:00 am on my last night in the region before heading north to my home in Sydney, I visited the spot and captured the photos I used to create this vertical panorama. The overly-bright looking Milky Way is due to a thin fog that was moistening the sky at the time. 📷 To get the eight individual frames that make up this composite photo I used a Canon EOS 6D camera fitted with a Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 lens @ f/2.4, mounted on a Nodal Ninja panoramic tripod head. I selected an exposure time of 15 seconds @ ISO 6400 for each shot. - @nightscapades on Instagram

Made a quick trip to CSIRO’s Paul Wild Observatory in between my time spent at Warrumbungle. This shot was actually heaps harder than I thought it would be, trying to take all frames in the one satellite position as it moves at random intervals. I also wanted frames without light painting so had to get lucky between breaks from other togs. It took me a while to get the frames right, but eventually got there! All part of the fun. This pano consists of two rows with 7x shots per row. . Time for more time travel to the beautiful past at Tavaputs Ranch. This image is similar to the panorama of the Milky Way that I shared a few weeks ago of this incredible old fashioned fence and gate. The poles that make this worm fence and gate are incredibly strong and secure to stop even the most obstinate and bull-headed cattle from going through them. A partially full and setting moon illuminates the entire foreground. Jupiter is the bright dot immediately above the right fence with the smaller Saturn to its left. Typical sky here is Bortle class 1. So even with lots of moonlight the sky is very dark and loaded with stars. Single image. Taken 5-26-20 at the Tavaputs Ranch in Carbon county, Utah, USA. 11:59pm. Road to the galaxies In this big panoramic image you can see the Milky Way stretch across the sky 130° above the horizon. The total panorama is 70 megapixel and is made up from 6 photos in total. Close to the horizon you can see big dark regions of interstellar dust that blocks light from distant stars. The galactic core is located just below the horizon and is never visible here at latitude 63N. The big red area in the center of the image is the area around the North American Nebula. Above that you can see the emission nebula IC 1396 as a red circled area. The two small red nebula at the top of the image is the Heart and Soul Nebulae and in the top left corner you can see our closest neighboring galaxy Andromeda as a disc shaped object. If youre traveling at the speed of light (~300 000 km/sec), you would reach the galactic center of the Milky Way in about 26,000 years. Keep traveling for another 2,500,000 years or so and you would reach the Andromeda galaxy. On average, astronomers estimate that one new star is born somewhere in our Milky Way galaxy per year. Photos was taken using my Nikon D810A with a Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED together with an ASIAir Pro.
