Pearl Morissette bringing the party tonight! 🍇🥳 . The Metis Rouge is an ode to quality Niagara reds: a blend of Pinot Noir (51%), Cabernet Franc (37%), and Gamay (12%). Fermentation was done partially whole-cluster (Pinot and Gamay) and partially de-stemmed (Cab Franc) with indigenous yeast. The wine was bottled unfiltered and unfined, which is noticeable as it presents with a cloudy ruby appearance. The nose is earthy and spicy with bright red fruits, and the palate bursts with jolly rancher juiciness, green pepper, and spice. Perfect Saturday night wine 💥 . François Morissette has developed a reputation as a Canadian winemaker producing high-quality wines using natural methods, including organic farming and natural yeast fermentation with no filtering. @odetteestate / 2016 / Cabernet Sauvignon / Stags Leap District / Haven’t gotten the chance to have wines from Odette in quite a few years, but glad to re-visit the wines and happy to say it’s still as good as we remembered. Notes of chocolate, cocoa, blueberries, black cherries, savory herbs, crushed rock, leather, oak spice and creme de cassis. Smooth on the palate, the fruit is generous and layered well with warm spices. Tannins are round and well integrated, acidity is medium. Overall a great pop and pour—crowd pleasing wine that is so good right out of the gates that gets better as you let it sit in the decanter. 📷 and notes by @ This is the first time Im opening the Stags Leap Fay 1994. This bottle didnt need a lot of air, 15 minutes in the glass and it opened up beautifully. The nose had black currant, dark cherries, leather, dark chocolate and a hint of eucalyptus. It is medium bodied with mellowed tannins. Acidity and fruit are perfectly balanced with a little spiciness to complement. This is a highly enjoyable Cab from the epic 1994 vintage. It is fully mature and I would drink up in the next 5 years. Na boca confirma as frutas negras, tem boa acidez, taninos presentes e agradáveis, também tem certa mineralidade e algumas notas de tostado. Apresenta médio corpo, convém deixar o vinho respirando uns 40 minutos para que se mostre melhor. Nessa safra recebeu 91 pontos do guia Descorchados e tem média de 3,7 no Vivino. Em nossa avaliação recebeu 91+ e nos custou aproximadamente R$ 100,00. Ornellaia è un cuvée di Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc e Petit Verdot, espressione fedele di un terroir unico da sempre in armonia con la natura. La fermentazione ha avuto luogo parte in tini di legno francese e parte in tini di acciaio. La prima fermentazione, così come la macerazione, si è protratta per 25-32 giorni dopo la quale circa il 40% del vino è stato travasato in barriques nuove dove ha avuto luogo la fermentazione malolattica. Il vino restante è stato messo invece in botti di legno dove ha avuto luogo la fermentazione malolattica. Durante Marzo / Aprile tutto il vino è stato introdotto in barriques usate. Il vino è stato affinato in barriques di legno francese (39% nuove e 61% usate) per un periodo approssimativo di 16 mesi. Its intriguing label attracted me. Alcyone is a Greek Demi-goddess (label) and was happy together with Ceyx until he perished in a shipwreck. As a result Alcyone threw herself into the sea. She then was resurrected into a halcyon bird. She made her nest on the beach, and waves threaten to destroy it. Eolo, her father restrained his winds and made the waves be calm during seven days, so she could lay her eggs. These became known as the “halcyon days”, when storms never occur. Alcyone became the goddess of calm and tranquility. Tannat Dessert Wine too instills a calmness with its polished tannins. - Wine: Alcyone Variety: 100% Tannat Winemaker: Pablo Fallabrino Soils: Calcareous white and brown clay. Chateau Montrose 2000 Happy Sunday! I decanted the wine for an hour and half prior to serving. It is divine and very elegant at the moment. Almost hitting its peak but still have room to improve a bit. It is at the 10 yard line. Served with dry aged steak, king oyster mushrooms and potatoes 🤤 I was drinking the Montrose 2k so fast, I had to Coravin a Chateau Haut-Brisson 2016 (delicious btw) in between just so I can let the Montrose breath a little more to see if it improves (tbd). Château Lafite Rothschild Carruades de Lafite Pauillac 2013.- The second wine of Chateau Lafite - From cold and wet to high winds and a mammoth hail storm, 2013 was not the best year for Bordeaux and this wine will not have the longevity of most other vintages. Itll still set you back about £300. I came across this at the Lavinia wine store 3-5 Boulevard de la Madeleine, Paris. . . The Carruades de Lafite is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It has quite a floral bouquet with touches of dried violet petals infusing the crisp blackberry fruit, laced with cedar and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry, starting with black fruit but gently moving to more red fruit towards the finish. There is not the usual persistency, but it has pleasing purity and approachability. Last weekend I did the WSET level 1 course so I was fortunate enough to try 14 new wines! Im going to post a few of my favourites over the next couple of days. This is The Barossan Shiraz 2017 from Australia 🇦🇺 it cost $23 in Canada. A clear deep purple colour, clean medium fruity nose. Medium tannins, medium finish, off dry full bodied wine with medium acidity. Lovely plum, dark cherry and blackberry notes on the palate. Chateau Haut-Bailly 2010 The 2010 @chateauhautbailly is open for business albeit on the young side. Decanted this wine for 4 hours and drank over another two. Intense and concentrated. The nose is beautiful with black and blueberries, raspberries, graphite, chocolate, spices, tobacco and earth. I can sniff this all day. Well structured and round on the palate, the tannins are fine and very present but not over bearing, medium+ to long finish. 🍇 Carménère 🍇 Direction aujourdhui le Chili 🇨🇱 pour vous parler dun cépage qui y est emblématique, le Carménère 🍇. . Saviez-vous que ce cépage est à lorigine un cépage qui était cultivé dans la région bordelaise? La crise du phylloxéra, à la fin du 19ème siècle, a provoqué son abandon en masse par les vignerons. Par contre, au Chili 🇨🇱, épargné par le phylloxéra, ce cépage sest répandu. . Les caractéristiques du Carménère 🍇 sont les suivantes: ➡️ Cest un cépage tardif. ➡️ Il donne en général des vins tanniques. ➡️ Ses arômes principaux sont le poivron vert (dans sa jeunesse), les fruits rouges et noirs ainsi que des notes épicées et fumées. ➡️ Il représente environ 10% de la superficie totale du vignoble chilien. . 🍷Dégustation 🍷 Pour illustrer ce cépage, jai la chance de vous présenter le travail de la Bodega Baron de Rothschild avec leur @escudorojo.official en monocépage de Carménère, millésime 2018. Le vin présente un nez complexe avec des notes de fruits noirs et rouges bien mûrs, de torréfaction, de poivre, de vanille et de poivron rouge. En bouche, il se caractérise par des tanins très présents mais soyeux et une acidité présente mais pas trop marquée. De multiples arômes se dévoilent: de la mûre, de la myrtille, du café, du poivre et du chocolat 🍫. Lalcool sélève à 14° mais est bien équilibré. In fact, the estate was 1 of the 3 original vineyards when the appellation was created in 1976. The Lessona Riserva is the grandest wine of the estate from his finest sites, including the oldest vines of the estate (planted in 1970) in the “Vigna Gaja”. Exclusively Nebbiolo and exceeding the aging requirements which are 46 months before release with a minimum of 30 months of the aging process occurring in barrel. Antonio Galloni @vinousmedia sums it best: Ampls, creamy and voluptuous, and yet it also avoids some of the excess heaviness and ripeness found in other wines of the year. Em 18 de agosto foi comemorado o dia do Pinot Noir, essa data foi criada no estado do Oregon, nos Estados Unidos🇺🇸, em meados da década de 1980, e acabou se consolidando entre os amantes do vinho🗺️. . Embora a Pinot Noir🍇 não esteja entre as nossas uvas preferidas, que normalmente são mais tânicas e potentes💣🔥, alguns exemplares nos agradam bastante, entre eles esse varietal da Suzin, de São Joaquim-SC🇧🇷. . Nós compramos três garrafas desse Pinot da histórica safra de 2018🔝, e pretendíamos abrir a primeira com mais alguns anos⏳, pois já conhecemos os vinhos da Suzin há algum tempo e sabemos da qualidade e longevidade deles, mas com o dia do Pinot Noir pedindo uma garrafa, resolvemos meter logo o saca-rolhas😉. . Este vinho foi elaborado com uvas de vinhedos próprios, conduzidos em espaldeira. A colheita foi manual, com seleção de cachos, desengace e seleção de bagas. Após a fermentação, com controle de temperatura, o vinho estagiou em carvalho francês por 6 meses. . Com impressionantes 14,3% de álcool, perfeitamente integrados, este Pinot apresenta um rubi de média intensidade, ligeiramente mais escuro que o usual; traz aromas de boa intensidade, lembrando frutas vermelhas frescas, em especial morangos e framboesas, também lembrou especiarias doces, algo floral e uma madeira bem discreta. . Com corpo médio, acidez também média, e com leves taninos que trazem uma adstringência muito discreta, é fresco, aveludado e saboroso, com um final de boa persistência. . Embora o vinho esteja pronto e a garrafa tenha esvaziado muito fácil, com certeza vai melhorar com mais algum tempo na adega.⏳👍🏼 . 👉🏽Foram produzidas somente 2.030 garrafas desse vinho, e caso você encontre alguma dando sopa por aí, recomendamos fortemente a aquisição.👈🏽 . . A CS (para os íntimos) se adapta a vários tipos de clima e de solo, sendo bastante expressiva e difundida por praticamente todas as áreas cultiváveis do globo. Ci troviamo nel versante Nord-Est di Montalcino, dove a circa 300 mt s.l.m. trovano dimora i 2,5 ettari di vigneti di cui 2 a Brunello. Una micro azienda che produce nel suo complesso meno di 10.000 bottiglie allanno, ognuna delle quali frutto del massimo rispetto per la natura e per il territorio. Immane lavoro in vigna con potatura secca in Gennaio rispettando le fasi lunari e molteplici potature verdi nel corso dei mesi che portano addirittura al taglio dei grappoli che non rispettano gli standard qualitativi. Viene svolta inoltre una ulteriore selezione dei chicchi sul grappolo in pianta poco prima della vendemmia ed anche su tavola di cernita prima della diraspatura e pigiatura. Principio di gravità in cantina, i lieviti sono quelli propri delluva, il metodo è quello della tradizione (Manfredi è stato tra i fondatori del Consorzio nel 1967). Fatta questa doverosa premessa cosa ci dobbiamo aspettare da questo Brunello? Semplicemente di bere un pezzo di territorio in relazione allannata di appartenenza. La bellezza sta proprio nella sincerità e nellesaltazione del terroir. Un Brunello che nasce in unannata straordinaria e che regala austerità, potenza ed equilibrio. Frutto surmaturo, ancora croccante, spezie a non finire ed una ventata di freschezza balsamica. Stesse sensazioni che si ritrovano al palato dove tutte le componenti si fondono allunisono. Una bella bevuta per molti che diventa straordinaria per i pochi che ne conoscono la genesi. Lote Negro 2017, um corte de 60% Malbec e 40% cabernet franc com 12 meses de carvalho francês de segundo uso, vinho da @bodeganorton Como o nome diz sua cor é escura, profunda e intensa, os aromas de frutas maduras e especiarias são deliciosos. Na boca mostrou taninos ainda bem presentes, porém, finos e de excelente qualidade. A acidez é média+ e tem corpo médio, pede o acompanhamento de pratos mais condimentados e gordurosos. Seu final é longo e deixa uma excelente impressão na boca. Ainda é um vinho muito jovem, faz muito bem em decantar por uns 40 minutos no mínimo. Nesta safra recebeu excelentes notas, 93 do Robert Parker, 94 do James Suckling e 95 do Tim Atkin. Em nossa avaliação obteve 94 pontos e com alguns anos de guarda deverá ter desempenho ainda melhor. Margaret River is radpily becoming my region of choice for Aussie Cabernet and Chardonnay, there I’ve said it. This is partly due to an abundance of producers turning out beautiful wines at all price points, from the affordable to the wishlist wines, but it’s predominantly the style that really sets them apart. Tonight’s drop is from Stella Bella Wines, from the most soutern tip of Margaret River, and although they liekly need no introduction, this is the first time I’ve tried their wines. On the nose there’s a gorgeous mix of violets, crème de casis, dark cherries, bay leaf, and pencil shavings, very pretty. Blackcurrant and mulberry pack-out the palate with hints of red cherry at first, leading to more savoury notes of dried herbs, sage and bay, vanilla and cocoa, sitting amongst the fine and gritty tannin. Tra le varie denominazioni, gli IGT sono forse la categoria nella quale ci divertiamo maggiormente a portare avanti le nostre ricerche.🔎 Il disciplinare più permissivo, consente molto spesso ai produttori di sperimentare ed esprimere il massimo di quanto la terra consente loro di produrre. Oggi vogliamo portare sul tavolo una di queste bottiglie. La cantina @santacristinawines è di per sé una garanzia, dal 1946 produttori di vini di qualità, sono situati in un’alta collina della Toscana non lontano da Siena e Perugia. E’ proprio il nome della regione a comparire in etichetta, evidente l’intento di valorizzare il territorio, con ispirazione allo stile francese di portare in etichetta il nome del cru. Toscana IGT 2018 è un blend di diversi vitigni: Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet e Sangiovese. Ogni varietà viene vinificata separatamente in acciaio inox 🍷 👀 Alla vista si presenta rosso rubino con riflessi violacei che preannunciano un vino giovane e fresco. 👃 Al naso sorprende per la sua potenza e complessità, emergono infatti sentori fruttati e floreali, note speziate di pepe ed erbacee come la foglia di pomodoro. Tale varietà di sentori è data probabilmente dalla grande varietà di vitigni che compone il blend (nota speziata dallo Syrah, erbacea dal Cabernet). 👄 La stessa potenza avvertita in precedenza la troviamo anche in bocca, è secco, deciso, con una spiccata acidità accompagnata da una giusta sapidità, un tannino avvolgente ed un tocco di morbidezza dato dall’alcool (13 gradi). La chiusura ricorda la mandorla amara, piacevole e abbastanza persistente. La bottiglia viene proposta ad un prezzo che riteniamo davvero ottimo rapportato alle qualità di questo vino e ci sentiamo di consigliarvela. Diciamocelo... è un periodo che bevo bene, ma soprattutto trovo vini che mi convincono, cosa rara. Oggi Pinot Nero Il Nirò 2017 della Cantina VINI FINIGETO. Dal colore classico del Pinot Nero, un rosso rubino scarico (finalmente perchè sino a qualche anno fa si producevano dei Pinot Nero che dal colore sembravano più Rossi Oltrepò), al naso di una finezza e freschezza straordinaria che ti sale, che sale immediatamente con profumi gradevoli di cuoio e spezie. Lasciato decantare nel bicchiere si possono percepire note di frutti di bosco maturi. Al palato è pulito e potrei aver detto tutto... pieno, avvolgente con un morbidissimo tannino che si è sposato perfettamente con il famoso Salame Cotto del Salumificio Daturi di Canneto Pavese. El sábado hicimos cata de estos vinos 4 taaaaann diferentes🍇 Son vinos sin madera de diferentes variedades y denominaciones de origen. Al ser vinos sin madera lo que queríamos apreciar es el carácter propio de cada variedad porque como no hay aromas ni sabores aportados por la barrica, todo lo que percibimos en nariz y en boca proviene de la fruta. De esa forma puedes reconocer muy bien las características más representativas de cada variedad. Para hacer catas de este estilo hay que seleccionar vinos que se muevan en un mismo rango de precios, para que todos jueguen en el mismo nivel, que sean (a poder ser) de la misma añada y que sean 💯x 💯de la misma variedad (monovarietales). También es interesante elegir vinos de regiones diferentes para ver cómo les afecta el clima y el suelo, mis vinos seleccionados fueron: Bierzo - Mencía Toro - Tinta de Toro Cariñeña - Garnacha Jumilla - Monastrell Los vinos los compré en Lidl ajustándome a lo que había en ese momento, no fueron más de 15 euros así que os invito a hacer la cata y que comprobéis que diferentes son! Speri winery has been held by the family for seven generations. This winery, small yet a true hidden gem, produces only five labels all in outstanding quality. The four brothers who inherited the winery in the 1960s thought out to produce true premium wine. First things first, they modernized the winery’s growing environment. They carried heavy rocks to build stone walls to make a terraced landscape, which allowed them to manage the vines as if they were grown on flat soil(p3,4). The Speri brothers also developed an “open-pergola system,” granting wider space between the vines to create better exposure to sunlight and air(p5). They believed the first step to making great wine is to cultivate quality grapes. Therefore, they only used the best grapes from their vineyards and established an organic approach, even though that meant losing a great deal of grapes on the way. ⠀ Having discovered that their Sant’Urbano site(p7) had the best growing environment, they decided only to use grapes harvested in that single vineyard to produce their flagship wine, the celebrated Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto Monte Sant’Urbano. With that, the brothers’ dream came true after decades of hard work. Their goal was ambitious, yet they didnt forget that basics are all that matters; great wines are made with quality grapes grown in healthy soils. After weeks of maceration that follow the alcoholic fermentation, when the wine in the making is ready to be aged, the cellar master launches the devatting stage.The day before, the free-run wine is taken out of the tank and on the day, we enter the tank to take out the grape pomace... with a fork. Physical work ... but always in a good mood to beat the record of 42 minutes to devat a tank of 294 hl ! Visitei, semana passada, o mítico Château Pétrus, tão famoso por sua qualidade como por seu preço: trata-se do merlot mais caro do mundo. Quase impossível conseguir uma garrafa por menos de mil Euros. Muita gente me pergunta: por que é tão caro? Quem paga isso tudo por uma única garrafa? Simples: é a lei do mercado que dita o preço. Por acaso esse vinho é duas vezes melhor do que seus concorrentes diretos? Claro que não. Mas quando se visita Pétrus - o que eles raramente permitem - vê-se o quão pequena é a propriedade. Então trata-se de um vinho muito muito muito bom cuja pequena produção não é suficiente para suprir o mercado. Resultado? Os preços altíssimos. A impressão, ao visitar Petrus, é de uma vinícola típica da Margem Direita, como tantas pequenas propriedades da vizinha Saint Émillion. É até bem mais simples, na aparência (uma construção sóbria e pequena) e no modo de receber, do que muitas outras. O enólogo, o Olivier Berrouet, nos recebeu de jeans e botina. No chai (adega) o pessoal estava fazendo a remontagem (tirando o mosto da parte de baixo da chuva para regar o chamado chapéu - a crosta de sólidos que se forma no topo). O encarregado do chai está lá há uns 30 anos. Obviamente, trata-se de um processo super artesanal mas, como tantos, eles dizem que a maior parte do trabalho é feito na vinha, e que uma vez que as uvas chegam à adega buscam fazer o menos possível, perturbar o mosto o mínimo possível. Enfim: como não sou nem serei nunca compradora de Pétrus, poder provar uma amostra do fim da visita é uma sorte. E minhanossasenhora que maravilha que estava! And here are two more 100 years old giants, that amazed us last weekend. Pavie became a superstar under new owner Gerard Perse, starting with the 1998 vintage. But there is no Miraculix working in their cellar. Pavie is just going back to its roots. There were so many exciting wines produced here in the first half of last century. This 1920 Pavie was like a ghost coming out of the bottle. It needed a lot of time and air and got bigger and bigger. Such a powerful, robust wine with a lot of aromatic pressure and very good length, building enormously in the glass - WT97. Yes, it still had the original cork and a hard to believe bottom neck fill. I bought it some time ago from my good friend, experienced rarity dealer and fake wine expert @uwebende. The 1920 Smith Haut Lafitte in an Eschenauer bottling also showed, that the current success of this estate is no fluke. This wine from a lot in very good shape, bought long time ago, presented itself like a great, well ripened La Mission from the 50s again, over time literally exploding in the glass. Brick red, murky and impenetrable, and effusive eucalyptus on the nose. Quite shocked the amount of euc on this, it borderlines on something I would consider flawed, but I’m keeping an open mind. Dull cherry preserves lay low inside, but a side-note to the minty vegetal. I’ve never had this bottling from Peter Lehmann before, I have been quite the fan–classically–of the The Barossa bottling from this producer. This one is a bit cheaper and since I haven’t seen The Barossa for some time on shelves, was curious. Plus, it’s only 14-oh, which obviously sparks the curiosity, as the ABV for aussie shiraz is almost as predictable as Rhone labels. Dull and lifeless in the mouth, I’ve had these cheaper bottlings from both Lehmann and Wolf Blass up to and beyond age ten which were WONDERFUL, so I am going to give this one the benefit of the doubt and say it is perched in that awkward stage between lavish young fruit and decadent tertiary polish. Dark and brooding, the fruit a bitter cherry with a severe drying note mid-palate. Tannins quite forth-right but rather uninteresting start-to-finish. There’s nothing significantly *awry* with it, and it bangs pretty hard above its 12.99 PP, but all-in-all it it is just plain NOT interesting. @sodhanivineyards / 2016 / Cabernet Sauvignon / Reserve / This wine has been on our radar for quite some time, and we’re glad to finally have given it a shot. It should be noted that most young wines we drink across 2-3 days just to see the evolution, and this one was really worth the patience. Notes of black currant red/red cherry, raspberry, oak spice, currant, sweet tobacco, blueberries, cassis, baking spice, and cocoa. The differences between day 1 and day 2 were really quite incredible. Day 1 was a wine that showed a very clean and focused expression of fruit, the oak barely just a whisper while the fruit leaned more towards red than black and an incredible acidity that kept the wine fresh. It was a bit tight, but the structure was linear and precise. We put the cork back on about half-way after 2-3 hours or so and came back to it next evening. Day 2 was a whole different wine, the aromatics exploded and the fruit was darker and lush. Smooth textured tannins, finesse on the palate and decadence. Really a transformative wine that requires absolute patience. Try a glass and let it decant for 6-8 hours, if you can wait until the next day...even better! I had pretty good luck with the other Four Vines wine The Kinker cab, so I figured Hey .. Lets try the Zin!?! A few interesting things about this one. The aroma is full of dark fruits that circles your nose... and overpowering raisins! I hate raisins! A little high alcohol whiff when first opened (15% ABV will do that to ya!) but quickly went away. Flavors of RAISINS, blueberry and charcoal.. and raisins! The finish was really VERY interesting...of course those damn raisins hung around but once that dissipates, you get a surprise rush of smooth milk chocolate, cream and caramel... no raisins ! Yay ! While this one is not one of my favorite Zins, I will not pour it down the drain... and that gives it a degree of credibility in my book. Maybe an overnight stay airing out might help kill off the RASINS! . I know it will appeal to Zin-fanatics who like something new and love RAISINS ! Hoje o #tbt é deste gostoso Merlot uruguaio da @BodegaBouza que tive o prazer de degustar “in loco” no ano passado. . Um varietal de Merlot com uvas provenientes das regiões de Las Violetas (Canelones) e Melilla (Montevideo) e com maturação de 8 meses em barricas de carvalho francês. . Na taça tem cor rubi de média intensidade e mostra aromas de frutas vermelhas, baunilha e caramelo. Em boca tem corpo médio-, acidez moderada e taninos muito macios (de média intensidade). Aromas de frut e baunilha no palato, com média persistência. . Um vinho simples, sem grande complexidade, mas que me surpreendeu pelo equilíbrio, maciez e elegância. Não tem estrutura para muita guarda (talvez mais 1 ou 2 anos) mas é muito gostoso de beber. Dei 89+ pontos. . . . Im on a mini quest to delve into the Barossa Valley and some of the diversity that it presents through its sub-regions and also its old vines. Here Ive found a Shiraz from the Ebenezer sub region which is in the north of the valley. 🍷 The Ebenezer terrain is mostly flat with consistent depths of red clay soils and the elevation is around 300m (Barrosa ranges 110-600). The nights tend to be cool here and can also be proned to frost and the wine style is known for its opulent mid palate and velvety tannins. So, based on these common elements of Ebenezer, I would say that I have found a benchmark example of the sub-region. 🍷 2018 @glaetzerwines #bishop #Shiraz 🍷 Concentrated black plums and dark cherry flavours provide a full mouthful of flavour on entry. Theres Black pepper, cocoa and well rounded toasty oak maintains a full and textural mid palate, that glides towards a silky yet firm tannic structure. Its a full bodied Shiraz and an #excellentwine that will continue to develop well into the 2030s. 🍷 #barossavalley #southaustralia 🍷 The Ebenezer fruit was selected from a low yielding 3 tonnes per hectare and old-vine age ranging from 35 to 120 years. Its undergone extended maceration and has spent 16 months in 40% new oak and 60% in 2-3 year hogsheads 🍷 Ben Glaetzer is at the helm of the family business which was set up by his father Colin in 1995, who had been a winemaker for Barossa Valley Estate. WINE WEDNESDAY PICK - a wine you can find and buy at the LCBO right now...🍷🍷 . For this weeks edition of Wine Wednesday Picks, I let my love of art, fashion, and all things aesthetically pleasing guide me to the wine I would try. When my eyes settled on a pretty label, I rolled the dice and grabbed the bottle. Hardly scientific, right? I dont think it has to be - thats part of the fun! 😁 . This wine = St. Auriol Chatelaine Corbieres 2017. Made from 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 20% Carignan, this wine comes from the Languedoc-Roussillon in France, and more specifically, from the Corbieres AOC , an appellation that produces a significant portion of the regions wine. Straight up, I liked the wine but cant say I loved it. A pretty bright ruby colour in the glass, this wine is bright, fruit forward and layered, with a pronounced spicy character that I think could potentially be off-putting for some depending on personal preference. The wine is medium bodied and frankly a bit silkier than I was expecting, with nice acidity and rich aromas of red fruit, earth and a touch of tobacco. It paired really well with our pork chops tonight and could be quite comforting on a cooler evening just on its own. . Overall, a pretty good value pick if you like this style. However, Im going to go out on a limb and say it might not be for everyone, especially those who might be less adventurous. . Price = $20. Tasting Massetino 2018 & 2017 and Masseto 2017 & 2012 🍷 Last Sunday I had the privelege to taste the iconic Masseto / Massetino wines at a Masterclass given by Vianney Gravereaux Global Sales Manager Masseto at @goessensprofessionalsinwine in Maastricht during the Fall tasting. The Massetino 2018 was fantastic. Ofcourse young but screaming with potential. The Masseto 2017 and 2012 were really amazing. 👌👌 A small story about Masseto: The estate was first founded by Lodovico Antinori in 1981 – Antinori intended to produce Bordeaux-style wines on the Bolgheri site, and after first creating Ornellaia, and later Masseto, had created two of Italy’s most celebrated labels. Oenologist Andre Tchelistcheff first identified that the terroir of the Masseto hill, with its unique grey and blue clay, would be particularly well-suited to planting Merlot. The name Masseto comes from the presence of the masses of clay on the hill, which are as hard as rock: ‘masso’ in Italian means rock or boulder. From the first vintage, Masseto was vinified and aged at Ornellaia, but spring 2019 saw the official opening of the label’s own winery. The 27,000-square-foot, ultramodern underground facility was created with a revamped cellar, top-of-the-range vinification systems and a wine caveau featuring every vintage dating back to 1986. The 2018 vintage (only the 33rd vintage to be produced) is the first to be made in its very own winery. Production totals around just 30,000 bottles a year for Masseto. Masseto’s second wine, ‘Massetino’ a blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc, is a relatively new arrival, debuting with the 2017 vintage in autumn 2019. It came about following a hot and dry growing period when less Masseto was produced, and the estate felt it was the ‘right moment’ to pursue a second wine. Nowadays the Masseto winery is owned by the Frescobaldy family. “Sangrar” un depósito es sacar el vino del mismo y separarlo de las pieles y pepitas(vino yema). Estas aún tienen bastante impregnándolas(sobre todo si no se estruja la uva al principio o si se trabaja con raspón). En la prensa extraemos una pequeña fracción de vino de estos orujos, a través de una presión muy sutil( vino prensa), que suele tener bastante estructura y color. Poco a poco la #añada2020 va dando la cara, y no pinta nada mal! A pesar de las dificultades. Virna Barolo 2013: lot of structure, quite tannic. tar, dried rose petals, dried cherries, bit of chalk. Slight touch of cedar. Some saltiness and a bit of pure chocolate. Just starting to develop some tertiary aging flavours which enhances the depth and complexity of this Barolo. Long, complex finish. Would be at its best in a few years but already a terrific wine! O Casal Arnolfini representa a prosperidade do Lar, assim como a prosperidade desse vinho, no qual a safra de 2020 foi a melhor safra da história. . Tra Nodo, em italiano, significa entre nó. Esse nó é representado pelo filho no ventre de Giovanna, um elo que liga o casal pelo nó da vida. . Ao refletir sobre os aromas lembrei de caldas de frutas vermelhas, geleias e especiarias. O pequeno detalhe do tapete persa remete as especiarias vindas do oriente e que estão presentes no vinho. Sentimos notas de noz moscada, baunilha e carvalho. . Por falar em carvalho, o Tra Nodo, passa por três meses em Chips de Carvalho Francês e Americano. . Com 1850 garrafas produzidas, o vinho tem corpo médio. Perfect accompaniment for a lasagna, a pizza, or any tomato-based saucy dish. Guerila Amphora Red: Did we hear you all asking for a Slovenian Barbera? *again for those at the back* A Slovenian, vegan, biodynamic Barbra? Garnet red in colour with flecks of violet hues. Complex aromas of ripe blackberries, forest undergrowth, plums and a graphitesque minerality. Rich, full, exceptional length with a surprisingly pleasant freshness. A wine like this works fantastically with rich dark meats, but for the vegans out there looking for a wine that matches their diet, something mushroom-based, or a slow-cooked pulled jackfruit. This one is a bit pricey, but its worth every single penny of £25.50. Alchemy 100: This gem comes in from just East of Beziers. The wine is sourced from a very special parcel of over 100-year-old vines of Carignan. There are these HUGE stones that are scattered across the vineyard floor that gently warm the fruit, which ensures the full ripeness and flavours we can taste. Everything is handpicked, and the low yield guarantees the very best of grapes go into this bottle. A combination of both French and American oak adds a subtle vanilla note, a boost of tannin that all sits firmly alongside notes of ripe, summer pudding berry fruits. We love to pop this up against Moroccan-inspired lamb dishes using tons of spice and apricot. Mmmmm... Vuurberg Reserve 2016 I’ve pulled out this bottle, mulled over whether it’s the right time, and returned it to the shelf...a few times. Until one dark and stormy evening when popping this cork felt like the right move. Deep ruby with a pronounced nose of raspberry, black cherry, goji berries, pencil shaving (oh, the pencil shavings! I wonder how much PV there is in this) leather, soy sauce, mushroom, vanilla, cardamom, pepper and smoke. Dry, full bodied, high acidity, with powerful but silky soft tannins...that sounds odd, I know - when I held the wine in my mouth it’s was intense...but dissipated into silky strokes after swallowing....like when you add too much sugar to your black tea and you can see the texture change as it becomes more viscous and satiny. Dark berries, dark plums, dark chocolate, liquorice, blackberries, cedar, raw green peppers, and the longest finish that’s all spice and dark fruits and cedar. Oh my word, the finish was so long! I don’t know if it’s the name, but this almost burned my tongue when I hold it in my mouth for a while...in the most deliciously pleasing and warming way. It’s no surprise that this turned out to be 15% ABV. What a pleasure! After all the chardonnay that I’ve been exploring, drinking this wine felt like coming back home. Maybe it’s the chilly weather, maybe it was the mouth stripping chard...or maybe it’s just a muscular, yet elegant, blend that allowed me a moment to sit back and languish its dark and broody qualities. - @capeofgoodwine on Instagram

#Repost @somm.where with @make_repost ・・・ MORE NINE OAKS! Because why not? Another native grape from Georgia this is 100% Saperavi. Unique and unusual, this grape produces juice with a reddish purple hue. Grape juice from a red or green grape is usually colorless. (Wine gets it’s color from the grape skins). However, this specific grape produces pigmented juice which makes for an inky, luscious, full-bodied red. A little about the vineyard- The name “Nine Oaks” comes from the nine majestic oak trees that grow on the family estate. Organic grapes are used to craft these naturally made wines. Traditional wine making techniques are preserved, including the use of “Qvevri” (hand made clay vessels buried underground) during fermentation. Back in the day wine makers didn’t have temperature control so they would ferment wine underground for a cooler more controlled environment. A sucker for symbolism this label really speaks to me. If you look closely, you’ll see a “9” representing the nine oaks trees and a “G” for Georgia, which represents the traditional Georgian dance- a line that’s constantly moving and changing. This dance is considered sacred and as are their wines. I could go on and on about this vineyard and the winemaker but I’ll stop there. (I know peoples attention spans for reading captions is limited).
