Happy Juneteenth babes. In my own way of celebrating I would like to tell you all a story. Tomorrow marks two weeks from the first conversation with the city about painting the Black Lives Matter mural in Uptown Charlotte. A mural that, from start to finish, took less than 80 hours to execute. Within those 80 hours, laws changed literally over night to accommodate the project. This time two weeks ago, it was in fact illegal to paint words of any kind on street surfaces in Charlotte. A phone chain went out and city dollars were redirected to support our local artists, uplift their voices and offer zero controlling hand on design. The artists were truly free to express themselves and the city did everything it could to maintain that ability throughout the production, and are now discussing how to implement programming which supports this further. Tuesday, June 9th, hundreds of people gathered peacefully around our artists, as the street closures and public safety was managed by the Transportation Department, not the police. In fact, aside from a few curious or supportive officers who stopped by, CMPD was no where to be found, though they had been notified as required by them. I listened as families walked through the site Tuesday, and again last Sunday for touch-ups, and used the artists imagery as an educational tool for their children, to explain racism, systemic oppression and why the black lives matter movement is important. Conversations overheard of how we can work to make this country a more equal place for all, personal stories shared, connections made between people of all races, backgrounds and ages, and really a much needed outpouring of love vibrated through the streets. You can still feel it on that block of S. Tryon, which has been blocked off as a pedestrian zone for the foreseeable future, another change made over night. What we hopefully know by now is that complacency and contentment of the privileged has allowed a broken governing system to continue on, since this day 200 years ago and for generations before it. *continued in comments 📸 @mrcareyjking - @samguzzie on Instagram

Next in our Alumni Profile Series, we have MUPP alum, Michael Sewall!⠀ ⠀ Michael Sewall first trained as a journalist before coming to CUPPA in 2015. That training, and his experience doing hyperlocal reporting in the Chicago area for several years, cultivated his interest in getting to know his surroundings better, and to understand the interests and concerns of nearby residents. Now, those same skills come in handy on a daily basis in his current position as the Director of Constituent Services and Community Outreach for 47th Ward Chicago alderman Matt Martin, as Sewall constantly finds himself tackling unexpected challenges, responsive to the needs of the ward while fighting for projects like affordable senior housing and green environmental policies.⠀ ⠀ Throughout his time at CUPPA, where he specialized in community development, Sewall interned in the Village of Brookfield, with the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, and at the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, giving Sewall a variety of opportunities to continue to develop his writing and planning skills in combination. Sewall also credits his role as UPPSA president in his second year in the program as formative, creating more opportunities to learn from his peers and encouraging him to pursue more community leadership opportunities. By getting involved in the Lakeview and Ravenswood communities he called home, Sewall got a full-time position as program manager at the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, followed by his hiring in Matt Martin’s office following his election in April 2019. ⠀ ⠀ Now, Sewall gets to wear many different hats in his work for the 47th Ward, which encompasses Lincoln Square, Ravenswood, North Center, Uptown, Andersonville, Lakeview, and Roscoe Village. On some days, Sewall helps to convene the Green Council, drawing upon the experience of ward residents who work in environmental policy to advocate for renewable energy policy in Chicago. This facility at IITK was created according to the vision of Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director, IITK. The Multi-Institutional Centre on Materials for Energy Conservation and Storage Platform (MECSP), Technology Mission Division of the DST, was launched by the Honble Minister, DST in March 2019. The multi-institutional centre with a focus on hydrogen storage systems and applications based on hydrogen as a working fluid has five participating institutes; which includes: IITB, IITK, IITT, IITG and NITR. The IITK wing is located in the Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE). CESE at IIT Kanpur has been at the forefront of environmental research since its establishment. Eighteen faculty, with diverse interests, are associated with the centre and belong to six departments. The green energy theme (Green Energy: Production, Storage and Conversion Technologies) at CESE (https://www.iitk.ac.in/c…/cese_Themes/Theme_green_energy.php) is one of the important foci of the centre. The Multi-Institutional Centre on Materials for Energy Conservation and Storage Platform (MECSP), Technology Mission Division of the DST, was launched by the Honble Minister, DST in March 2019. Sept 10, 2018 will always be a day I’ll never forget. As we were leaving our studio, four guys decided they wanted to try and rob us and when we went to get in our car to get away from them, they fired 8 gunshots as they ran away. Two bullets barely missed our heads and went through our neighboring company’s entire van, two barely missed my leg and went through the bottom of my car, ricocheted off the ground and went through the entire back of @sydneycummings_ ankle, shattering her calcaneus, as she jumped in my car. In less than the blink of an eye, I almost lost my best friend and my fiancé. I’ll always miss the blissful ignorance we had before that night. I was so inspired over that next year to watch as Syd literally gave zero excuses and worked out with a hole the size of a golf ball in her foot every day. From December 2018 through July 2019, before and after every single daily workout, we had to pack the open hole in her foot with medicated gauze and ruined hundreds of socks due to all of the blood and fluids that she lost during working out. I saw some comments come through saying “this workout is too easy”, “she looks out of shape”, etc. and instead of Syd getting upset, in typical Sydney fashion, Syd’s words were always, it’s not my job to feed into negativity, it’s my job to motivate and show people anything is possible. This is the first picture we’ve ever shown of part of her wound, but this is what was hidden behind her sock during workouts. Not to mention, she had another hole on the outside of her foot that the bullet came out of. I don’t know how I got so lucky to deserve this gift of her, but I’m beyond grateful. To think that out of two and a half years the only days she has taken off were the ones that she got shot and was recovering are beyond inspiring. Syd, I knew from the moment I saw you on camera years ago that I had to figure out how to get your positivity, knowledge, and heart to the world and I just want to say you have never proven that thought more right than the way you carry yourself every single day. BREAKING: The American Medical Association today petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Court of Appeals decision upholding a 2019 Trump administration rule that imposed drastic changes on the Title X family planning program, inappropriately interfering with open communications between patients and healthcare professionals. The petition was joined by Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon, Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, the Oregon Medical Association and others. With conflicting decisions in the lower courts, it was critical that advocates for reproductive health and rights take this fight as far as it could go in the judiciary by petitioning the court. But even as #SCOTUS considers whether to review the Title X gag rule, Congress must step into this fight and do away with the harmful policy to ensure that patients across the country can access the care they need from the health centers that serve them. Example: most theft is wage theft but wage theft is NOT considered a crime. 🚨 Wage theft usually gets settled in civil court cases, not criminal cases. So if your employer doesnt pay you, for example $1000 that youre owed for ur labor 💸, thats not considered crime, and its really hard to prosecute. As part of #HungerActionMonth, the Bloustein School’s Graduate Society of Healthcare Leaders put their efforts toward raising donations for @ElijahsPromise Community Kitchen. They gathered food supplies, hygiene products, and clothing items. This past weekend the students met at a local park, donned masks and gloves, and packed more than 100 snack and hygiene bags, as well as bulk items and donations such as rice, pasta, oil, and clothing. They packed three cars full of donations to make the trip over and deliver the items to Chef Curtis and his team at EP. GSHL was also able to make a monetary contribution because of the amazing amount of donations they were able to raise for the #Give5forEP campaign. This June makes 2 years that I’ve been cutting hair.... ~ In all this time it wasn’t until this past Sunday that marked the first time that it occurred to me that I have an ability to help others in a way that I know best. ~ My chase of money, success, and accomplishments has turned me from the potential to be an instrument of blessing to other people in need. ~ Together with my bro @yungdrippaa we bought 200$ worth of food, supplies, and daily essentials and headed to The projects of downtown Miami with 1 goal in mind : To help others in any way we could. ~ Technically We didn’t ‘gain’ anything... we spent 200$ and time we wouldn’t get back... or so it seems. ~ What we gave in money and time we received ten fold in love and appreciation from those we helped. For hours we distributed food and provided haircuts to those who couldn’t afford it. By the end of the day our legs were tired and our energy was all but used up, but the smiles we caused and happiness we saw made it the best 200$ we ever spent. ~ My intention with this post isn’t to boast to you all of what I did or look for applause... I simply want to tell everyone seeing this that there will always be another person in the world in need of the blessing only YOU can provide. We need to step up and be the change we want to see. ~ That being said me and my brother @yungdrippaa have started a local Non-profit Organization called ‘Blessed2BlessOthers’ . You can find us at @blessed2blessothersfoundation . Money is appreciated but more than that we need people that are willing to be the chance they wish to see in their community. Before TM, I was a normal teenager who was passionate about my education. I was involved in extracurricular activities and volunteered as much as I could. Growing up as the first child in my family to graduate from high school was challenging. I faced many obstacles, including learning a second language and an entirely new culture. But without a doubt, the biggest challenge was becoming paralyzed literally overnight.⠀ ⠀ During the second week of my junior year of high school, I began to get sick. On the night of September 10th, 2013, I woke up and noticed that I couldn’t move my legs. My mom tried to help me stand up, but I collapsed to the floor immediately. I was rushed to the ER and after two days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a neurological disease with no cure. The inflammation damaged my spinal cord and I lost mobility from my chest down. After the available treatment, I regained upper body strength but was wheelchair-bound with little hope to ever regain full mobility. I was in an inpatient rehab clinic for four weeks, where I was taught how to move around in my wheelchair.⠀ ⠀ The first year was the hardest, as I juggled between therapy, doctor’s appointments, and school. In 2015, I was able to graduate high school with honors and made plans to attend a four-year college to study Business Management. Sebanyak 352 pekerja pabrik PT Indonesia Epson Industry (IEI) yang berlokasi di kawasan East Jakarta Industrial Park (Ejip) Cikarang Selatan, Kabupaten Bekasi, positif terinfeksi virus corona (Covid-19). Kasus ini menambah angka pekerja yang terpapar Covid-19 dalam klaster industri di Jawa Barat. Penelusuran mulai 6 September sampai 19 September, terakhir ada 352 kasus positif Covid-19, kata Juru Bicara Gugus Tugas Covid-19 Kabupaten Bekasi Alamsyah saat dihubungi CNNIndonesia.com, Senin (21/9). IEI kemudian memutuskan untuk menutup operasional pabrik selama dua pekan Mulai Sabtu (19/9) hingga Jumat (2/10) mendatang. Keputusan diambil hasil koordinasi antara perusahaan dengan Satuan Tugas Percepatan Penanganan Covid-19 Kabupaten Bekasi. Selama masa penutupan pabrik, kedua pihak bakal bekerjasama melakukan penelusuran kontak sekaligus melakukan penyemprotan disinfektan ke seluruh area operasional pabrik. Kini, ratusan pekerja yang terinfeksi Covid-19 tengah menjalani isolasi di beberapa Rumah Sakit rujukan Covid-19 di Kabupaten Bekasi. Esto dentro del contexto de los resultados entregados por el INE Atacama, donde la región marcó un 12,9% en el desempleo, siendo esta la cifra más alta de los últimos años. Por otra parte, la cantidad de contagiados por coronavirus en Copiapó y Tierra Amarilla han ido en franco descenso, en las últimas semanas, lo que incluso llevó al propio Ministro de Salud, Enrique Paris a señalar “debemos destacar los esfuerzos de Atacama, con grandes progresos en la ciudad de Copiapó y en Tierra Amarilla, ciudades que prontamente tendrán buenas noticias de mantener su evolución positiva”.
