Today the CA Supreme Court refused to hear the case over Proposition C, passed in November 2018. This legal victory will free up millions of dollars to provide services, housing and mental health treatment for those who most desperately need it in our City. Earlier this year, we won a unanimous ruling in our favor from the Court of Appeal in this case. This action by the CA Supreme Court secures our victory. Days after the U.S. Marshals Service announced the rescue of 39 endangered children in Georgia, similar operations are ongoing in two other states as authorities target missing kids who may be victims of sex trafficking. In Ohio, Operation Safety Net led to the discovery of 25 children ages 13 to 18 in less than three weeks, the Marshals Service said. The operation is likely to continue into October, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said. A two-week operation is underway near Indianapolis, Darby Kirby, chief of the Marshals Missing Child Unit, told USA TODAY in an email Tuesday. These operations are part of efforts at the local level to locate missing children rather than a coordinated nationwide sweep, Kirby said. Since 2005, the marshals have helped recover 1,800 missing children. “If they were looking for kids every day, they would find kids every day,” said Suzanne Lewis-Johnson, CEO at RAHAB Ministries in Ohio, who worked as an FBI agent and on a Child Exploitation Task Force running operations similar to the ones conducted by the Marshals Service. Human traffickers target vulnerabilities and recruit missing children or kids who can be lured away from home, Lewis-Johnson said. CFO Tim Stone is stepping down after only a year and a half in the position to take a new role at an artificial intelligence company. He’s being replaced by John Lawler, head of Fords autonomous vehicle company. Joy Falotico, CMO and president of #Lincoln, will step down as marketing chief to focus on her role leading Fords luxury brand. Ford said it would name a new chief marketing officer shortly. CIO Jeff Lemmer will retire Jan. 1. Dale Wishnousky, its vice president of manufacturing for Ford Europe, will retire at the end of the year. Kieran Cahill, 53, previously Ford of Europes director, manufacturing and strategic projects, will succeed Wishnousky, effective immediately. Ford said it would name a new CIO soon. Vamos dar continuidade a essa operação para intensificar ainda mais o combate a esses problemas que favorecem as organizações que, associadas a algumas ONGs, comandam os crimes ambientais no Brasil e no exterior”, afirmou o presidente, em discurso gravado. A Operação Verde Brasil 2, liderada pelo vice-presidente Hamilton Mourão, consiste no envio de militares para a área amazônica para dar suporte aos órgãos de fiscalização no combate ao desmatamento. A primeira fase da operação foi iniciada ainda em agosto do ano passado e o plano do governo, como revelou o Estadão, é prorrogá-la até 2022. Além dos dados de desmatamento, o Inpe também apontou que apenas os primeiros 15 dias de setembro foram suficientes para superar todo o volume de queimadas registradas na Amazônia no mesmo mês de 2019. No período, foram 21.349 focos de incêndio na floresta, contra 19.925 focos em todo o setembro passado. Apesar dos números oficiais, no discurso feito a líderes globais, Bolsonaro afirmou estar disposto a defender a Amazônia de “ações e narrativas que agridam os interessem nacionais”. Como fez no pronunciamento na abertura da Assembleia-Geral da ONU, no dia 22, o presidente voltou a atribuir as críticas sobre sua política ambiental a interesses internacionais de países que, na sua visão, querem explorar as riquezas naturais da Amazônia. “Rechaço, de forma veemente, a cobiça internacional sobre a nossa Amazônia. E vamos defendê-la de ações e narrativas que agridam os interessem nacionais”, afirmou Bolsonaro. But his absence will be felt particularly strongly by those of us, who in our formative years, were mentored directly by him. Today on National Police Remembrance Day, we honour our Victoria Police officers. We honour their service and sacrifice to our communities and extend out deepest sympathies and condolences to their families and communities. This year has been an incredibly sad one with the tragic passing of Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris, Senior Constable Kevin King and Constable Josh Prestney on 22 April. We grieve with their families and friends, their local communities and entire the Victoria Police family. We will never forget their legacy and service to Victoria. The Victoria Police family grieves and hurts as one with our local community and devastation that is felt for a very long time. But when they hear and read kind your messages, posts, cards and calls, like they did earlier this year, it came as great comfort to all officers, including our local police members. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf put forth a fall legislative agenda on Tuesday that advocates for the legalization of recreational marijuana, including a tax that would support historically disadvantaged businesses hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The governor outlined a plan urging state legislators to send him a recreational marijuana bill in the months ahead, with proceeds intended to supplement Pennsylvanias existing small business grant funding and restorative justice programs. Wolf also said he wants the state to spend the remaining $1.3 billion in federal coronavirus funds received through the CARES Act earlier this year. A large portion of these funds would extend hazard pay grants for front line workers and expand loans and grants for small business recovery. “House and Senate Democrats have been fighting for progress to protect families and businesses in these spaces since the beginning of the pandemic, but they have been stopped at every turn by the Republican majority focused on ignoring the public health crisis,” Wolf said in a statement. “That must stop now. The legislature must come back and take immediate steps to provide funding to frontline workers and businesses, put in place protections for families and our workforce, and make these commonsense reforms that can provide confidence in our government. Pennsylvanians need relief, they need reform, and they need it now.” The call for marijuana legalization is the strongest yet from Wolf, who announced last September that he would support the idea. In previous years, Wolf had been resistant to marijuana legalization in Pennsylvania, claiming the state wasnt actually ready for such a shift in policy. Pennsylvanias medical marijuana program, launched in 2016, has grown exponentially since its inception and further accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic. In the six month span between February and August, roughly 100,000 Pennsylvania residents registered for a medical marijuana card. Total sales surged from about $415 million since the start of the program to about $789 million over the past six months of growth. Today, we celebrated the expansion of the Advocate Trauma Recovery Center in Gurnee, IL. US Sen. Dick Durbin, State Rep. Edly-Allen and State Rep. Morgan joined us to dedicate the Center for the survivors and their families that we are so privileged to serve. The Advocate TRC is a health care-based violence intervention program that provides social and behavioral health services, individual and group therapeutic services, and psychiatric consultation to survivors of intentional crime and/or trauma. This location will build upon the success of the existing Advocate TRC at Advocate Christ Medical Center and expand the Advocate TRC to better serve communities throughout Chicagoland, specifically Lake, Kane, Kendall and McHenry counties. - @advocatehealth on Instagram
