I visited Prospect Cottage, former home of artist and film director Derek Jarman, in Spring last year & found it to be a hugely inspirational place, within an eerily beautiful landscape/seascape. In Spring this year, the Art Fund, with Creative Folkestone & Tate, are trying to raise enough money to buy the property and garden, to prevent it from being sold to a private buyer, to ensure its artistic heritage will be guaranteed for the future, and to enable free public access. Mahone bay is an iconic town, with picturesque churches and a long history dating back to the 1750s. In 1754, European immigrants (mainly German-speaking immigrants) began settling in the area. Homes and shops were built at the head of the harbour and the town was born. Though prior to British settlement in Mahone Bay, the area was inhabited by the Mikmaq native peoples. She put out the word to see if anyone wanted to join her. And now these women, strangers just a few months ago, have joined together for a powerful experience of walking in Harriet Tubman’s footsteps from Cambridge, MD to Kennett Square, PA. On her mom’s bike that was built almost 100 years after the store was established, and wearing Ripton jorts designed 60 years after the bike.
