⛰️ AL RESCATE DE LA CAMPANA Es una de las montañas más emblemáticas de la cordillera de la Costa, pero la experiencia de alcanzar su cumbre tiene un aspecto muy negativo: las rocas de la cima están todas rayadas. Sin embargo, un inédito proyecto de limpieza y restauración está en marcha para solucionarlo. Impulsado por la Fundación Andestrek @fundacionande con el apoyo de la Escuela de Ingeniería en Medio Ambiente de la Universidad de Valparaíso, Conaf y Sernatur, el proyecto Por una cumbre sin graffiti: Rescate en La Campana @limpiezalacampana busca remover los rayados de la cumbre que se han ido acumulando durante décadas. Tras aprobarse una experiencia piloto que se realizó en 2017, la iniciativa fue finalmente autorizada por Conaf el 21 de julio de este año, y ahora espera reunir el financiamiento necesario para comenzar, si todo avanza según lo planeado, a partir de marzo próximo. En un área de unos 4.500 metros cuadrados hay más de 300 rayados en las rocas. Algunos son antiguos —hay nombres tallados en las piedras con fecha 1884— y otros recientes, pintados con látex, óleo y hasta corrector líquido y esmalte de uñas. “Cuando yo subí por primera vez en los 70, ya estaba rayado, dice Marcos Liberona, fundador de la Fundación Andestrek y gestor de la campaña. Es muy decepcionante. Se ha rayado por casi nueve décadas, y hay tallados aún más antiguos, según las fechas escritas. Ocurre que a través de toda la ascensión vas observando un paisaje hermoso, lleno de bosques, pero cuando vas llegando a la cumbre y comienzas a ver los Andes al fondo, aparecen esta piedras con nombres que parecen lápidas de cementerio. He visto a turistas extranjeros que quedan sumamente impactados. La alteración visual es como una bofetada”. De regreso en Puerto Natales después de haber pasado 11 días en la montaña y 7 días colgados en la pared, escalamos algunos de los largos más difíciles que nos han tocado hasta el momento en la pared, al mismo tiempo fuimos petateando todo el equipo y comida necesaria hasta el largo número 13 en donde encontramos una terraza perfecta para armar un campamento. En este lugar tras 3 días encerrados en los portaledge por los fuertes vientos decidimos bajar para esperar una ventana que nos permita dar el pegue final a la pared. Ahora recuperarse y esperar que la madre tierra nos regale una ventana para ir a darlo con toda la motivación y respeto. Last summer my wife and I travelled into the Alaskan wilderness for this story to capture the incredible Ultima Thule Lodge. @ultimathulelodge Also a family-run resort, Ultima is located in the vast Wrangell and St. Elias Mountains of our neighbours to the north. With no roads or trails in or out, adventuring here is all about a combination of land-based and bush plane-powered excursions. When @quentinclimbing proposed we delay our flight out of East Creek by two days so we could climb All Along The Watchtower I knew the answer had to be yes, but I knew it was going to hurt. All Along The Watchtower *** ED2 5.12- / 5.11 C2 (1-2 Biv) 30 - 34 Pitches (GUIDEBOOK) If anyone else had asked me, I would have listened to reason and said no. I was really fucking tired. We had flown in six days earlier and it had been pretty non-stop. The day after we arrived, Adam Campbell and I climbed Beckey Chouinard on the South Howser and that is a story of its own, but one Ill tell at a later date! After Becky C, we had a rest / reset day and got ready to shoot a short film piece & photos on Solitary Confinement - a long day of climbing, rigging and filming! Next day we packed up and got ready for a night on the Portaledges, where we would spend some time with Quentin on his project. Jugging, Hauling and barely sleeping on a ledge somehow felt like a rest day at this point. We spent the day up on the ledge, belaying Quentin G LR and shooting film and photos of his progress on the crux pitch. Adam and I headed down around 4:30, just in time to avoid an epic lightning storm, which Quentin endured on the portaledge strapped to the headwall of the minaret - that is also another wild tale, and Quentins to tell. So all in all, I was bagged, Minimal sleep, hands were frozen and thawed so many times all the skin had cracked and skin raw. Laughable amount of sleep....but again, I knew the answer had to be yes. With alarms set for 2:30AM - Quentin and I woke up and charged some breakfast, too much water and left camp a 3:30AM Nailing our daylight/route finding strategy, we did the raps and glacier approach in the last of the mornings light and started simul-climbing the lower headwall just as you wanted to turn off headlamps. The lower Headwall went quite fast, the only factor slowing us down being some rockfall from a party above (They started the day before), which changed our belay positions a little and shortened some simul blocks. @arcteryx - continued in comments - @johnpricephotography on Instagram
