Lidea stessa della regione marchigiana non sembra essere abbastanza caratterizzata, confondendo spesso i propri confini con quelli di altre regioni del centro Italia. L’immagine che risulta del paesaggio marchigiano e dei suoi personaggi tipici resta poco definita, e talvolta decisamente generica o stereotipata. Da un punto di vista cinematografico insomma, le Marche non sembrano avere una particolare rilevanza e rimangono sempre un po’ “fuori fuoco”, immerse nella medietà, geografica e non solo. Ciononostante è possibile individuare alcuni tratti caratteristici di una certa immagine filmica delle Marche nel discorso cinematografico composito che percorre trasversalmente la storia del cinema italiano, dal neorealismo alla commedia allitaliana, dal nuovo cinema degli anni Ottanta sino alla produzione più recente. At first I was embarrassed to share this— but I changed my mind after receiving uplifting texts, FB messages, emails, and even stories from strangers of their own family connection to the frontlines of WWII. Got a little teary-eyed today on the noon show when I shared a pic. of my grandfather during his service in the war. Got a little tongue tied too.(Oh well) His name was James Kalei Kaholokula. Born in Pauwela, Maui. Part Japanese/ part Hawaiian, and fluent in both languages. He served in the 100th Infantry Battalion — considered the most decorated American unit. He used his language skills as MIS, military intelligence. He went on the join the 442nd Regimental combat team. He was part of the few who survived and returned home to Hawaii after the war. He became a musician, composing mele, like Pua ‘Olena, Keahiwela, Hule’ia, and many many more with our ohana group— Na Kaholokula. I’ve always had an appreciation for those servicemen and women, but I didn’t realize the magnitude of their selfless actions until later in life, listening to the stories my brother @the_baronk (the historian) would share— and interviewing survivors through my career. It’s hard not to be moved knowing they fought for our freedom— while MANY simultaneously fought against prejudice to prove their loyalty to a nation that once looked at them as the enemy. In a time where Hawai’i was in a state of change, it wasn’t easy being Hawaiian either. So that’s the reason behind today’s water works. OPEN IN PARIS! SARAH MOON PastPresent 18 Sept 2020 – 10 Jan 2021 The Musée d’Art Moderne has organised the first retrospective in a French museum of work by Sarah Moon. Moon (b.1941) is primarily recognized as a major fashion photographer who has been active in France since the 1970s. But her work is not confined to that domain, and the exhibition aims to convey the distinctiveness of both her photographic and her film work, which alternates between fairytale and grim romanticism. From her photographs, where surprise and the unexpected play a major role, a body of work has emerged that can be compared to experimental research. Sarah Moon describes it as a “ballad”. Beyond the subjects – animals, plants, flowers and fairy tales –, the presence of the photographer as narrator is felt throughout her work. The exhibition is punctuated by films by Sarah Moon. Their variety gives an insight into the breadth of her creative range. A section of the exhibition will also be devoted to her partner, Robert Delpire (1926-2017), an art publisher and one of the founders of the Centre National de la Photographie (“National Photography Centre”, now the Jeu de Paume). The “Popover” dress, a stylish kitchen-dinner dress by the American designer Claire McCardell is one of her most popular which was sold for $6.95 and over time, she made versions in different lengths and fabrics. A fashionable dress that a woman could wear to clean the house and then wear to a cocktail party. Claire went to Paris to study fashion in 1926. She would deconstruct couture garments such as a Vionnet dress, a designer she admired all her life, just to find out how it was made and then sewed it neatly back together. I’ve always designed things I needed myself,” McCardell stated once. “It just turns out that other people need them too.” So she created a wardrobe full of comfortable, but stylish, clothes for her active life. Her clothes were functional and simple with clean lines. They were considered subtly sexy with functional decorations. She utilized details from men’s work clothing, such as large pockets, denim fabric, blue-jean topstitching, metal rivets and trouser pleats. She pioneered the use of humble fabrics like cotton, rayon, wool, calico, denim and chambray etc. To these comely fabrics she applied the most challenging design techniques. At her height of power, she earned a Time magazine cover. After her death in 1958 , McCardells family decided to close her label. On this day in Hollywood history: Carrie Fisher was born on Oct. 21, 1956. Fisher was best-known for portraying Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. She was nominated for two Emmy Awards for her guest appearances on 30 Rock and Catastrophe, and she was posthumously made a Disney Legend in 2017. In her later years, she earned praise for openly speaking about her experiences with drug addiction and bipolar disorder. Fisher died of cardiac arrest on Dec. 27, 2016. Is gold a colour or a finish? Way back in time the effect of gold on a surface was achieved using ‘gold leaf’, real gold hammered to a thickness of 5 microns or about 1/8,000mm; that’s thin and it’s why a craftsman can lay it on any object. The technique goes back thousands of years. It wasn’t until the 1930s that cars were first painted gold, but only to special order. It seems that as paint technology became more sophisticated, gold became more over the top as a paint finish. The the arrival of ‘wraps’ as the final layer means that the customer can have as hideous an effect as his lack of taste can dream of. The gold paint on the Summers Brothers World Record holder ‘Goldenrod’ looked at its best under the harsh bright light of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Whilst 1970s gold like the Buick Electra 225 can show the form of that period of American car to perfection, Art Fitzpatrick could always be relied on to illustrate gold Pontiacs in all their splendour while real gold bars show how differently gold reflects light. Gil Alaya was one of the earliest customisers to experiment with metallic paint colours, one of the very few images of his Mercury built for Jonny Rosier show a gold and dark blue paint job which looks very cool. But a Rose Gold wrapped Lambo ……… well! Illustrator Paul Dove has a fine technique for painting something as dramatic as Henry Segrave’s ‘Golden Arrow’ Land Speed record car, and there is no doubt that the robot R2D2 took a shine to C3PO; I’m not sure that gold furniture would be to either’s taste but maybe the simple gold Corvette could have been. #c3po #gilalaya #artfitzpatrick #goldenrodrecords #goldenarrowhead - @peterstevensdesign on Instagram
