Reef Check 2017 campaign in Reunion Island, the beginning of it all. 🐠 Three years ago we were dreaming to shoot and film underwater stories. So we looked around, and got involved with the local association we thought was the best, @reefcheckfoundation. We borrowed a camera at work (nobody explicitly gave us the right to 🌝 ), and showed up at their events. We did our best; it was crap. But we came back, and we went on and on filming crap, our weekends spent freezing in the lagoon trying to get the best out of our little gopro. These moments have now turned into lovely memories. Woody smashed his 200m open water swim this morning with @paulsadlerswimland. Hes been having swimming lessons for just over 12 months and just hit level 12. His favourite stroke is butterfly and he favours distance over sprints. Most of all he loves his lessons, the friendships made, his awesome teachers (big shout out to Cade and Kodi Lee) and challenging himself each week. Big wave riding is a long road. For some it’s a career, but for me it always been a way to go deep into my self and know better my limits. This was one of my first waves at #peahi back in November 5th, 2015. What a great opportunitty i had this day surfing this amazing spot with just a few guys out. On the left in red @kai_lenny which was a legend already in such young age. Back in 2015 everybody was improving a lot and still learning the paddle game on the break. These boys...Deleots & Porterfields...”Godbrothers” and friends since birth, they’ve been on a lot of adventures together, and through the years, they’ve made lots of memories in Seaside, FL. . . Shep and Hines were 3, Thornton was 4, and Clay, who could always hang with the big boys, was 2 years old in the top pictures. We took the bottom pics in May, and I love that these 9, 10, & 11-year-old boys still take boogie boarding and fishing breaks to play (and bury each other) in the sand! . . I had them in mind when I wrote almost every page of my new book Seaside A to Z, and @lizasnyderart captured them perfectly playing on the beach on the “O” page. “My Seaside” is so intertwined with these friends that it felt right to dedicate the book to Laura Deleot’s parents (Jim and Sue), who have so generously opened their Seaside home to us over the years, and all of their grandchildren (because I know they have lots of family memories there as well!). . . Plus, Laura and her @circa.design team helped bring this book to life, magically combining the words and pictures to create what I hope represents everyone’s Seaside. Congratulations to Ocean City’s MIA GALLAGHER @miagallaghersurf for being named Surfer of the Week for the week of September 27th! The 14-year-old from the Garden State had a lot to celebrate after her double title performance at the 2020 East Coast Regional Championships in Carolina Beach in pumping conditions. She not only captured the premier Open Womens Regional title, she became the first NE surfer to win it since Quincy Davis in 2010. Mia is also the first female surfer from Ocean City to hoist the Open Womens Regional Cup. She made four finals at the event and took her second title of the championships in Explorer Girls. Her favorite surfers are @rissmoore10 @caroline_markss @tatiwest who are all NSSA champions and successful World Tour competitors. She credits her Regional victories to @surfesa All Star Coach and multi NSSA Regional Champion @surfcoachmotes and Ocean City professional surfing legend @keenz0 who had a standout NSSA career winning multiple Conference, Regional and National titles. In our eyes everyone who fights cancer and raises money for @coblh is a winner, as they have committed time and effort to helping others in need. Not only that, getting in the ocean everyday is considered a HUGE win for the mind, body and soul.......BUT.... There has to be someone who tops the fundraising leaderboard. So without further a do wed like to give a HUGE SurFebruary congratulations to @xav.neil for taking out the 2020 top fund raiser prize, raising $12,377🎉🎉🎉🎉. Youve won a double pass to the Melb based surfpark @urbnsurf, @softech_softboards surfbooard and a @basilbangs beach umbrella! Last night we were informed that unfortunately Xav had an accident yesterday afternoon and had ended up with a huge cut across his head. He’s currently undergoing surgery at Gosford hospital. We feel absolutely gutted that our lil man’s month has ended this way. Xav, you are an inspiration to so many, your involvement in this event is immeasurable. The ripple effects continue to spread 🙏 We love you buddy and wish you a speedy recovery so we can hit the waves again soon. Nesse final de semana rolou Surf Treino do @surfcorinthians na praia de Itamambuca, foi irado. Meus resultados nao foi os mais esperados , acabei errando um pouco mais bora para cima, com os erros que vamos aprendendo. Fiquei em 7° colocado na sub 16 e acabei em 4° na sub 12. Most people in LA get stabbed by a knife & end up at the Trauma Center @harborucla_em My husband, Nick, was stabbed by his surfboard while surfing 🏄🏼 in Manhattan Beach in 2016. When the paramedic called me from Nick’s phone in the back of the ambulance, I was working at Malibu Urgent Care. When I work at urgent care, I get a mental break because no one dies- as opposed to my ER shifts. My husband had other plans for my day. I asked the paramedic, “Does he meet trauma center criteria for vital signs OR injury?” There was a pause & then he said “Both” 😱 I hate surfboard fins, why are they so f-ing sharp?! What is the point? It’s not like you take them out to cut a steak 🥩after your surf session! I have seen over a dozen surf fin injuries, many horrific depending on the location of the flesh they rip into. This was one of them. He had stabbed a branch of his femoral artery & the blood was running under his wetsuit onto his foot. A bystander ran to get the lifeguard who started wiping his left foot & Nick redirected them “It’s on my thigh.” He pulled off his wetsuit to expose his birthday suit & a 4 inch wound on his left inner thigh. A tourniquet was placed & he was driven by lights & sirens 🚨 to @harborucla_em The ER doctors controlled the bleeding & he continued to have fluid resuscitation. He was quickly escorted to radiology for a CT scan with IV contrast which localized the source of bleeding. His next stop was the operating room with trauma surgeon, Dr. Brant A. Putman 👨🏼⚕️ I arrived after the surgery was complete. One year later he attended the Trauma Survivor Celebration. I made sure to bring gifts to the lifeguards, fire department, ER & surgeons thanking them for saving his life. I honestly wish my friends & family would stop providing me so much content! I would tag my husband, but he is not on social media. Jaime, que se destacou ao longo de toda a competição, bateu hoje na final Tiago Guerra (CNN), com um score total de 13.65 contra 12.80 do segundo classificado. Tiago Leopoldo (PPSC) e Tiago Pereira (ASCC) foram os terceiros classificados ex aequo num dia de excelentes ondas de metro offshore na Praia do Baleal, em Peniche. Adiado desde o início da pandemia do Covid-19, o CBSurf Pro Tour voltará no final de outubro. A Confederação Brasileira de Surf confirmou a realização da primeira etapa do Circuito Brasileiro de Surf Profissional em Ubatuba, no litoral norte de SP. A etapa terá R$ 80 mil de premiação – R$ 40 mil para o masculino e R$ 40 mil para o feminino, sendo R$ 8 mil para os vencedores. Todos os detalhes de inscrições e data serão divulgados na próxima semana. “Os atletas precisam voltar a competir e estamos animados com uma etapa de alto nível”, disse o presidente da CBSurf, Adalvo Argolo, reforçando que todas as medidas de segurança serão adotadas durante o evento, respeitando os protocolos de saúde por conta da pandemia. Vale lembrar que o Circuito Brasileiro de 2019 conheceu seus campeões justamente em Ubatuba, no HD apresenta Surf Trip CBSurf Pro Tour, tendo como campeões do ranking o cearense Artur Silva e a paulista Júlia Santos.
