She told us about our family moving from South Africa when all 8 of them were kids, and let me leave with a few of her million books. We need to stop glamorizing letting things go. Whenever someone is upset, we want them to let it go. Whenever someone is angry, we want them to let it go. Whenever someone is anxious, we want them to let it go. Whenever someone is depressed, mad, down, sad, hurting, unhappy, pained, etc. we want them to let the feelings go. But why? Why do we tell people to let it go? Why don’t we teach them to be with it and stay with it? Why don’t we tell them to learn the art of dealing with it? Why don’t we allow them to take their due time to recover and heal from it? Why do we have to force people to put up a fake happy front when they don’t want to? There is nothing wrong with taking your time to reel back from the effects of things that haunt you. You will still be considered strong if you cry yourself to sleep every night because you miss a lost loved one or are hurting from the betrayal. Crying, grieving, and being in pain doesnt mean you are weak. It only means that you are the most human of humans. You require your fair time to learn how to let go and heal from what sets you back. Do not let the stereotypes of the worldly definition of what’s acceptable and strong set you back from the path of progress. When you are done processing, accepting, and overcoming then you can let everything go. Whenever you are ready, you can let it go. But till then, stay with it and allow yourself to grow! Cora woke me up at 3 am because she was scared. The wind and rain sounded like a whistling tea kettle mixed with ocean waves crashing. I had just enough time before our power went out to check the radar. The eye of the hurricane was closer than predicted. After I got her back to sleep, I made the mistake of looking out my window. I’ve never seen trees bend back and forth so quickly. I also saw one of our small sheds on the verge of falling apart. I crawled back into bed, heart pounding and all. There was no way I could sleep with everything going on. . Anxiety. We just watched a webinar on stress anxiety and it was defined as “an unhealthy response to life’s uncertainty.” Every time I felt a tightening in my chest, I knew I had to bring it to God or else it might turn to a full blown panic attack. And so I did. My Bible was on the other side of the house so I made my way to my daughter’s room to get hers, and with my cell phone flash light I read verse after verse after verse. And then I prayed those verses all throughout the night. And guess what? I traded my panic for His peace. . “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phil. 4:6) . “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3) . These aren’t just words on a page. These aren’t unattainable realities. These are living and active truths that supply all we need for when we need it. God knows we wrestle with anxiety and He gives us a way out by trusting in Him and receiving His peace. . We woke up to branches scattered everywhere, a few broken windows, missing fencing and roofs, and some of our belongings scattered all the way across the neighborhood. We don’t have power or cell service (but our generator gives us power for WiFi so we are using it to update our friends and family.) The bottom line is we are physically safe and God has shown me once more that He is who He says He is. I couldn’t be more grateful. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. . #hurricanesally - @aholypursuit on Instagram

When @sweetbabygherkin began working from home, he felt trapped in a dog-hair-covered, cramped apartment. So he decided to change that by clearing away the clutter and finding the beauty in the spaces we now live in and the things we now cherish. Take a peek at how he’s transformed our #WFH spots, along with some learnings and insights from their respective dwellers: 1. @sweetbabygherkin himself, copywriter: There are only three things you need for the perfect WFH space - 1) Plants. And more is definitely better. 2) Music. Im listening to @spaceykacey. 3) A window. Helps me remember what the outside world is like. 2. @totes.jorge, associate dir of design: As a true Cancerian, my home has always been my temple; a place to get away from the stress and where I go to decompress. Now that Im forced to stay indoors, at least I can say that I’ve crafted the perfect little haven where I feel safe and inspired to tackle whatever comes my way. 3. @kylie_wu, brand director: Around our office, I used to carry a laughably large orange mug around everywhere, constantly hydrating. It was a part of my office brand, if you will. Now that Im home without it, Ive found another oversized beverage vessel that reminds me of my beloved orange mug, and it helps me stay hydrated while getting into the working mindset everyday. Prompt ~ @sv.writes Picture @pinterest Revolutions often end up being synonymous with a bouquet of flowers on a tombstone, maybe that is what defines my allergy to scent. Poems are antonyms to victory disguised in defeat, and those who cant understand the fine line between the two, often end up in the grave, to be dedicated to a eulogy engraved in chaos. My right-hand travels across foreign terrains, scouring deliverance for the blasphemous choruses she has sung on days when God felt like the perimeter on which life and death make love. Ive specified her gender to secure her position among things that ignite a war. She knows that because Ive seen her nurse harpoons underneath her imminent tombstone. The strands of hair I gently tuck beneath my ears remind me of the battles fought pre-history when no one knew their deeds would go down as a grade 8 syllabus and hence, fought gore bloody battles without knowing trigger warnings; to smoke, thereafter, in pride and dream of unborn praises in infertile hearts. That is why maa tells me to cut my hair short, like that of a boy. Ive cultivated philosophies sprouting from sins under my bedsheet so that they prick my feet every time I try to escape. They remind me of the smooth necks dangling from their roots; the probability of whether I cut them off or not is what paints my city in shades of human blood. Summer Evening - For this illustration @xppen allowed me to try out their ‘Innovator Display 16’ Tablet! For transparency, i wasn’t paid but this tablet was sent to me to try and review, and all thoughts are my own. I drew this using an older Macbook and both Clip Studio and Photoshop. I usually use Windows with a Wacom non-display tablet but Ill get to that in a bit. Set up: It was relatively easy to set up using the manual. Setting it to be left-handed mode was fussy and I ended up leaving it right-handed which was fine! Driver: The driver is easy to install. Unfortunately it’s not compatible with other drives/tablets, so you’ll need to uninstall them. I rely on my non-display tablet outside of drawing so ended up installing it on an old computer. GOOD NEWS is that the tablet runs smoothly on older computers! Drawing - The display feels really nice and smooth to draw on, and I didnt notice any delay or parallax. It also works well with Clip Studio’s stabilization feature and with textured brushes. There’s no eraser on the pen, but you can customize the shortcut keys. Colouring - I like to colour like Im using colouring pencils and it felt really natural on the Innovator.. The colours show up beautifully! Overall Tablet - The screen is a great size, it’s not too big and not too small. The tablet itself is a bit big so i’m not sure how easy it’d be to travel with it, but it’s not heavy. You can either power using your computer or plug into a socket (the socket cable is a bit short). Would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a display tablet and it’s in your budget :) Final Pros/Cons! Pros - 🌿Colours look good, clean and crisp. 🌿It’s suitable for artists/creators of all levels, from beginners to hobbyists to professionals. 🌿The customer service is great and they’re really kind! Cons - 🌿Not being able to have multiple/wacom drivers installed at the same time 🌿The stand it comes with, while comfortable, only has 1 level and is pretty low. 🌿The cable connected to the tablet gets in the way a bit when using left-handed, and may cause the cable to wear down.
