Tonight the Steep Canyon Rangers reunite for three nights of free drive-in concerts in western North Carolin. We will livestream the first show of the series on our Facebook tonight at 8:30pm! The band will perform on a stage attached to a custom-designed truck fitted with cameras, a big screen, and a radio transmitter that will allow attendees to enjoy the show from the comfort and safety of their own cars. (The tour was designed to meet COVID-19 public health guidelines). In advance of the shows, Woody Platt, guitarist and singer with the Rangers, shared with us how the band has fared through the pandemic. THANK YOU to everyone who tuned in to our #SaveTheBitterEnd livestream last night and donated to the venues GoFundMe page-- altogether, we raised $16,000 over the course of the night!! 🙏🙏 Coupled with the $8,000 raised online over the preceding four weeks of our campaign, a total of $24,000 in much-needed funds was contributed to help ensure that NYCs beloved & historic music venue will once again be able to open its doors after the NYC lockdown ends. 💥🎸 Over the course of the 5.5 hour livestream, hundreds of music fans tuned in to watch as twenty musical acts dedicated their passionate performances to @thebitterendnyc . The majority of acts spoke eloquently in-between songs about how the venue had become more than a rock club to each of them-- it had become a home, or, in a few cases, the center of their true musical family. ❤️❤️ The Bitter End is still a few thousand dollars away from its overall goal of $100,000 to be able to re-open (click the link in bio to donate!), but after last night... the goal seems VERY MUCH in reach! 🤘😎 . . . Hey everyone, we hope this finds you healthy and happy. Theres no easy way to say this so were just going to put it out there. We have decided to step back from touring and to focus on our life here at home. Music will always be an important part of our lives. Well always continue to write and release music, but were ready to spend more time with friends and family, and start a family of our own. Weve had an amazing run and have been blessed beyond belief to live a dream for so long. We cannot thank all of you enough for the love and support youve shown us over the years. You all have given us so many amazing experiences throughout the years and memories that will last us a lifetime. Weve been exceedingly lucky to have shared the stage with some amazing bandmates that have given so much to the music and have become like family to us, and to have folks like Troy Thrailkil, Alan Megli, and Josh Parks Davis and many others to help us get it all done. Our families have always had our backs and supported our choice to go for it and its hard to imagine that any of this wouldve been possible without them. Were still amazed at the opportunities weve had as a little country band from Southwest Missouri. Weve played with our heroes, traveled all over this great country, released records, met some amazing people, heard our songs on the radio, and even played on National TV. Its been a wild ride full of just about every kind of twist and turn imaginable. Weve literally put our blood, sweat, and tears into this, but its been incredible and worth every bit of it. We owe it all to you that believed in us. This certainly isnt goodbye forever. Im sure well eventually start playing some shows here and there and, who knows, maybe one day well be back at it full tilt, but for now, its time for the next adventure. We are trying to make some final shows happen and make up some of the shows that were postponed. Our dates for the 2020 Maplewoodstock Festival are Sat, July 11, and Sun, July 12, 2020. We will launch our band application process on Sun, Jan 12, 2020. We will launch our food and art vendor applications later in spring 2020 -- around mid-April. For the past 3 weeks, the UNO Lakefront Arena hosted The NOLA Drive-In Summer Concert Series featuring @tankandthebangas, @galacticfunknola, and @therevivalists! All three concerts sold out within seconds and those in attendance were able to enjoy the triumphant return of live music in a well-orchestrated, socially distanced manner. UNO Lakefront Arena and @voodoonola Music Experience collaborated with city and state officials to successfully pull off a new, safe, concert experience for the city of New Orleans. I just watched my dear friend SLAY a 90 minute set, and I could even smell the ocean breeze from where I was sitting. And yes, this post comes after drinking one extra drink than I meant to, but I just have to say something: The arts are not dead. They are actually more inspiring. They are a product of hard work, hope and grace. We think because nothing is happening in major cities that creativity is shut down elsewhere but that’s just not true. I believe this downtime has given artists chances to ask themselves, what matters more: The joy or the consistency? I am starting to believe if we just chase the spark and joy in our lives, the art will be bigger, bolder and better. We might have to wait, we might have to hold other jobs, but that authenticity is worth it. There is no price on that. Nothing can take the artist out of you.
