To start our Downtown Regina Cultural Trailway series, we have St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral. ⁠ ⁠ St Paul’s Cathedral was founded in 1882 in one of the tents that made up the early Regina settlement. The parish built a church in 1883 on the Cathedral’s current site, but in 1895 after four years of planning and six months of construction, the Cathedral you see today was built. ⁠ During the tornado of 1912, the First Baptist Church’s dome was thrown onto the Cathedral. By the time Germany surrendered in May of 1945—and Japan on September 2nd later that year—troops, nurses, and people around the world were ready for the terrible conflict of WWII to come to an end. For the 7.6 million U.S. soldiers stationed abroad, roughly 6 million of them would come home over the next year. “Operation Magic Carpet” began in September, 1945, with the aim to bring soldiers home to the open arms of friends and family. The massive demobilization effort took longer than anyone would like, and continued well into 1946. Since all resources had been dedicated to winning the war, not much planning had started for bringing troops home. One goal that soldiers in particular had, was to “make it home for Christmas.” As the holiday grew closer, the U.S. Army and Navy launched “Operation Santa Claus” to expedite the return of the troops. Because of this initiative, over 250,000 military personnel were rushed home, facing inclement weather and stormy seas. Once they arrived on American soil, they were met with shocking traffic and travel delays. A majority of these soldiers had traveled so far only to be stuck a few states away from making it home for Christmas. However, civilians banded together to gift returning servicemen and women train tickets, and many volunteered to miss Christmas with their own families in order to drive or hold parties for these veterans who had layovers or were stuck in transit. After years of toiling and fighting, many soldiers were just happy to be back home for the holidays. On September 15th, 1963, a bomb planted by white supremacists ripped through Sixteenth Street Baptist Church killing four little girls – Addie Mae Collins (14), Cynthia Diane Wesley (14), Carole Robertson (14) & Carol Denise McNair (11) – and injuring several others. The tragedy marked the third bombing in eleven days in Birmingham, Alabama.  In the 1960’s, Birmingham was one of the most racially segregated cities in the country. State and local politics were dominated by the Ku Klux Klan, the city police commissioner, Eugene “Bull” Connor, who promoted violence against black communities and the Governor George Wallace, who was a staunch segregationist. These factors combined to heighten anti-black sentiment and create a particularly dangerous environment for African Americans. Racially motivated attacks on black homes and churches grew so common that the city was referred to as “Bombingham.”  The terrorist act against the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was a brutal reminder that the successes of the civil rights movement and the changes it represented would not go unchallenged. Right now, there are 440,000 children in America’s foster care system, and their health and safety could be at risk, depending on the outcome in an upcoming #SupremeCourt decision. That’s why today, hundreds of faith and local leaders from across the political spectrum filed briefs with the Supreme Court firmly opposing the creation of a right to discriminate. Here’s the situation: Catholic Social Services, a taxpayer-funded foster care agency, is violating Philadelphia law, refusing to certify same-sex couples. CSS says its exempt from the law because of its religious objections. Now, CSS is asking the Supreme Court to require this exemption—a decision that could implement a broad right to discriminate in our nation’s foster system and beyond. A wide range of taxpayer-funded services, like food banks, homeless shelters & disaster relief services, could be affected. This isn’t fair to the children who *need* a home. This isn’t fair to the thousands of loving LGBTQ couples who *want* to provide a home. For example, given this years theme, it is important to know the layers and generations of harm that have been perpetuated.  This year’s theme is Healing Nations – Protecting Elders, Women, and Children (source: California Native American Heritage Commission). California Native American Day is celebrated on the fourth Friday of each September. For many years, California tribes have celebrated this day by renewing ties to the earth and keeping their ancestors ways of life alive. In 1968, Governor Ronald Reagan signed a resolution calling for the fourth Friday of each September to be American Indian Day. It was hoped that this acknowledgment would help to inform the general public about Indian heritage and the problems that are confronted by Indians in California. In a parallel universe where the MLB expands this is how I would see it, I went with more of a regional approach with the AL west being mainly on the western side of the continent and the NL on the eastern, wouldn’t it be cool to see a Portland seattle rivalry, giants-A’s for the Bay Area, battle for So-cal/south west in the AL south, battle for Chicago/Wisconsin-Minnesota, battle for Texas (obviously that still exists) Vegas and Rockies just had to fit in, the NL East is subway series/Yankees-Red Sox/Phillies are close geographically with all of them you could call it the battle for New England, Rays-Marlins battle for Florida/Baltimore and DC are really close so I think it’d be interesting, for the NL East I like how close they are would make for interesting events especially around the Greta lakes mainly Lake Erie, finally we have the NL Central for this it just came down to lack of information and just slumping them together I’d say royals-cardinals would be interesting, the new leagues would consist of AL (2 new teams, 7 AL, 7 NL) NL (8AL, 8 NL) the playoff format is like the NFL top team from each league gets first seed/bye and then home field goes to division winners in first round followed up by next best record - @kyle_lewis_fan on Instagram

Gyms have the safest forms of contact tracing:- Clubs have had COVID management plans in place since March 2020 including compulsory COVID19 staff training undertaken via health.gov.au Gyms have invested thousands $ in their community to keep their members and teams safe, such as COVID19 educational marketing, extra social media costs, installing different streams of hygiene products in house, extra staff for cleaning and the list goes on. We have:- 1.Booking Systems that tell us which zones the member participates in. 2.Membership scanning on the entry gate that provides all personal details including picture i.d! 3. Designated times to avoid overcrowding 4. Participating club rules on entry 5. No casual use Our clubs need to open people need to get back to moving their bodies and feeling mentally healthy before they become a stat in the strained health care system we currently have. I see a COVID tax coming to cope with the destruction caused to business during 2020... If I can shop at a supermarket, get petrol, get my nails done, and swim in a pool....that people probably pee in! A few days ago, Wet’suwet’en Indigenous frontline leaders and solidarity activists facebook organization pages and hundreds of climate activists personal FB accounts were banned temporarily by FB for posting about a May 7th event targeting KKR, a major funder of the Coastal GasLink pipeline. The Extinction Rebellion US FB page was banned for 3 days recently for sharing the May 7th event as well. Facebook timed this ban to hit a few days before another event in resistance to this pipeline that was scheduled for 9/21. The event is now rescheduled to 9/28. Historian, writer, lecturer and researcher, Runoko Rashidi, has written extensively on the global African presence and leads tours to various sites around the world. Below are extracts of an article he wrote for the about the black presence in early china.  . “In September 1998, a scientific study posted in the Los Angeles Times concluded that: “Most of the population of modern China — one-fifth of all the people living today — owes its genetic origins to Africa.”[1] . “From the realm of the physical anthropology of early China, according to the preeminent scholar in the field, Kwan-chih Chang: “Skeletal remains from the Hoabinhian and Bacsoinan strata, similar to those found in southwest China, bear Oceanic Negroids features.”[1] . “The first Black people in China … were apparently Black people akin to the Batwa of Central Africa and the people of the Andaman Islands today — we call (them) Diminutive Africoids. They survived well into the historical periods. The presence of Diminutive Africoids (whom Chinese historians called Black Dwarfs) in early southern China during the period of the Three Kingdoms (ca. 250 CE) is recorded in the book of the Official of the Liang Dynasty (502-556 CE). They are said to be Diminutive Africoids and are variously called Pygmies, Negritos and Aeta. They are found in the Philippines, northern Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra in Indonesia and other places.”[1] . “The Shang Dynasty (1766-1027 BCE), China’s first dynasty, dating from the 18th to the 11th century BCE, apparently had a Black background, so much so that the conquering Zhou described them as having “Black and oily skin.”[1] . “…The Le Tigress vessel (a famous artefact from the Shang Dynasty period, created around 1250 BCE) appears to depict an human figure with Africoid features in the embrace of a tiger.”[1] . Runoko Rashidi has also photographed statues of Africoid-looking dancers from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). He has photographed such statues in both the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. Heartbreaking new information from @agirlhasnopresident with updated info from @platinumpurp: Please share ❤️ This is #elijahmcclain murdered by Aurora, CO PD officers Nathan Woodyard, Jason Rosenblatt, & Randy Roedema. Massage therapist Elijah McClain walked home with an iced tea & ski mask when the officers approached. Officers immediately moved to intimidation & threats while Elijah begged for mercy, saying he was “going home” & to “please respect my boundaries”. He’d been wearing a ski mask to shield him from the cold due to his anemia. The officers slammed him to a wall, wrestled him to the ground & performed a “carotid choke hold”. All 3 officers “lost their cameras” in the “struggle”. They lied for the sake of audio claiming, “He grabbed for your gun, dude.” Elijah was handcuffed & vomiting when paramedics were called. Jeremy Cooper & a female paramedic administered ketamine without checking in with Elijah - taking at face value the lie that he needed sedation for “violent behavior”. After being tortured & verbally abused while fire & additional police looked on & paramedics assisted in the murder, Elijah suffered cardiac arrest in the ambulance. It is alleged that paramedics didn’t resuscitate Elijah for 2 minutes, which could be the cause of his brain damage which led to a coma. Elijah’s toxicology report showed 1400 mg of ketamine in his system - according to America drug enters.org 680 mg if ketemjne is lethal for 130 pound individual. Elijah was 140lbs. Aurora Chief Nick Metz & a corrupt coroner backed up the officers’ lies with false statements about the audio & video which helped 12+ people get away with the murder of Elijah McClain. DA Dave Young just issued a statement saying he intends to ignore our petition to reopen the case despite nearly 1 million signatures. For artist Michael Rakowitz, whose work frequently centers around his Iraqi-Jewish heritage and the resurrection of erased cultural histories, it often means pushing back against dominate narratives and making the invisible visible. Through sculpture, installations, and with the participation of the public, he shows that empathy can serve as a powerful expression of defiance and vice versa. In “Enemy Kitchen,” Rakowitz led Baghdadi cooking classes for middle and high school students, using his mother’s family recipes; the project seized upon the possibility of cultural visibility to produce an alternative discourse around Iraq, little known to the students apart from nightly news images of war. An iterative, evolving project, “Enemy Kitchen” is one of many touched upon in a recent @newyorkermag profile on Rakowitz and his “Art of Return.” + “I’m somebody who was reared on site-specific art, on installation art, so Im always thinking about how to create modes of utterance and space. And so I thought about the smell I would come home to every day after school, of cumin, of Iraqi spices, and knowing that I was safe, that was home. 2017 Latex paint and oil enamel. It’s hard for me look at and digest the words in some of my paintings. During the height of the AIDS/ HIV epidemic my uncle Dennis died from AIDS in 1988, 3 years before I was born. My dad was walked through the funeral in chains on furlough from jail, escorted by two police officers. With 2 strikes on my dads record he spent much of my life, like many other black and brown men in America, struggling to find a decent job that honored his humanity. When I was about 12 or 13 my dad got out the newspaper clipping that I still have wrapped in plastic, of Emmet Till who was Murdered on August 28, 1955, and we had a talk about what it meant to be black. On the same day in 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his I have a dream speech at the march on Washington. At the time that I painted this I was deep into the works of Michael Ray Charles and early 20th century advertising and illustration, in an attempt to understand the the blurred lines between fictional and non-fictional blackness, hence the Sambo character. The murder of Navarro caught national media attention, sensationalizing the crime and painting Filipinos as savage members of primitive cults. Though mostly forgotten now, this horrific incident reverberated among the Filipino American community during the 1930s. I saw the image (2nd image) of the two men embracing, and it moved me to tears (I do not know the original artist of that piece, if some one does please let me know so I can give credit). I know my tears were anger at myself because I have never done enough, said enough, stood up enough, read enough. I also realized tears for myself dont mean shit. Feeling guilty doesnt mean shit. What does mean something is what I can do from here on out. I will use my art for solidarity with my fellow BIPOC. So I took inspiration from the original version and made one from my perspective.
