I rarely think I am giving an amazing performance. I’d never seen these photos from this event until today; I was going through my drive with a different motive entirely but I paused on another folder from 2018. My stomach did a little flip looking at the photos. Back when things were fun. When the Elbo Room existed (RIP), where @theartofroygbiv and I met the year before. We use to go to shows, I’d force Micah to dance with me, see our friends, drink. I remember this night in particular, I was dancing so hard that my top straight up broke (as you can see it’s chainmail) and fell off me. I get up out of bed every morning and pray to God above for guidance to be an instrument to be able to further help women find their definition of success. These women are survivors. The women in our amazing community are women on a mission to MAKE AN IMPACT and change this crazy world with service, love and kindness. When I think of our community, I think of women supporting other women and fighting to support our youth who desperately need us to be their advocates. I think if the resilience of so many of these great souls and how they keep getting back up after having been knocked down. I love them. 💜 My mother taught me that there wasn’t anything I can’t do, and you know what...I believed her. But, it’s not just me. It’s ALL women. One of the best things about my job is that I get the honor of celebrating the careers of my musical hero’s. In 2013 I had the opportunity to celebrate the career of the legendary Kenny Rogers. I had all of his albums growing up. I especially loved the records he made with Producer Larry Butler who was a legend in his own right. Also the records he made with Dottie West are some of the best Country records of all time. Especially my personal favorite “Every Time Two Fools Collide”. Two years ago, I was in Atlanta on a project that I will forever consider soul changing. Before leaving to film @americanbeautystar my life turned upside down. My second round of IVF had gone belly up, my job was *under new management* and I wasn’t sure what the future held, yet I boarded that plane (upon the insistence of my dear friend @hollywhidden 👯♂️) for a two week adventure with some old and new friends who got me through to the other side. @yutsai88 and I reunited and formed an unbreakable bond. @sirjohn brought my mojo back. @christiebrinkley became a true light in my life. And my already deep respect for the formidable @ashleygraham only grew deeper. As I look back on these pictures, I see myself morph from 😭 to 😐 to 😄 (with many moments of 🤪!) over those 13 days. People often ask me what inspires me and right now I can say I am inspired by Dolly’s good deeds and her fun way of living life. If you dont know her work do Google her, perfect Saturday scrolling opportunity. Anyways these photos popped up on my memories and I love them so had to do a Saturday share. They were five years ago, we were dancing at the Rivoli Ballroom and always dressed for the occasion. As you can have anything you want in life if you dress for it I dressed as if I could actually Ballroom Dance. Which I cant. Of course if you do dress the part you may come a cropper when someone expects you to live up to the outfit. Im sure there are many a chap I disappointed at these dance nights by my amateurish shuffling around. I really must add learning to foxtrot to my absolutely must to do list...it gets longer by the day, I clearly think Im going to live forever. So no dancing on the cards today - at least not in this gorgeous ballroom - but I fancy a bit of a dress up so may pull on a proper posh frock and convince @weef to waltz me around the kitchen. All outfits - his & hers - secondhand from charity shops and vintage outlets. I cant decide if we are cheapskates or truly madly deeply care about ethics and the environment. Following on from the tone on tone theme in stories this morning. Feeling a bit flat today as my daughter had a bit of a disappointment with her driving test. It’s funny how when your children don’t get what they want it s painful. But I do look on it as it being a learning curve; ultimately we become more resilient and we learn because of our struggles. The more you run the further apart you are from what really matters. ⠀ Stop. Breathe. Let go of the masquerade. Refuse to race through life. Listen to your heart. Breathe again. And again. As many times as it takes to be alive. Truly alive. ⠀ We all wear our own different masks, and they might be entertaining sometimes...
