I have several friends that live in the Santa Cruz Mountains area. I have spent many pleasant times there. Many of those friends are musicians, so I decided to approach the design like I would a rock concert poster. I like many of the the 60s psychedelic poster artists, have been influenced by both the French Art Nouveau and Viennese Secessionist art movements. Both of these movements featured floral and natural images, as well as interesting lettering and occasional Asian art motifs. These designs were often symmetrical and very colorful. Completing a whirlwind #NOLA journey in preparation for a new project and I gotta tell you, I’m on an all new high. I didn’t take a lot of photos because honestly, I just needed to be in the moment. But I had to capture meeting the homie Big Chief (@qadamawi)! His Mardis Gras masks and innovative beadwork is absolutely STUNNING... plus he (and his wife) were super gracious and welcoming. Just all around good folk. But please swipe to see an example of his tableaux. The first is a tribute to Rastafarianism and the Nyabinghi. The next tells the story of #BrasCoupé, a kidnapped African prince who vehemently resisted capture and enslavement. He not only emancipated himself on several occasions. With cold weather approaching (sigh) and being indoors more, I decided it would be a good idea to offer some of my paintings as downloadable colouring sheets! 🎨 My vision as an artist is to help others be creative and find inspiration, and I hope these colouring sheets do this. There are only a few illustrations for now, but I will be adding more in the following weeks. For only $5, you will get two .png images - one of dark lines (2nd image) for colouring in, and another of light lines (3rd image) if you wanted to practice your urban sketching by tracing. The light version can also be printed on watercolour paper, so you can practice your watercolour + tracing as well! I’ve included a link to these colouring sheets in my bio - if there are any paintings of mine you’d love to see as a colouring sheet, let me know. Hubert Pareroultja wins The Wynne Prize for his painting Tjoritja (West MacDonnell Rangers, NT). Pareroultja said of his expansive winning work: ‘My family believe giant caterpillars called the Yeperenye became Tjoritja (West MacDonnell Ranges in the distant past). The giant caterpillars entered through gaps in the ranges. In this painting the trees are a symbol for caterpillars coming through to the Country, and they travelled from Mount Zeil past Mparntwe (Alice Springs) to Emily Gap.
