Hi my name is Kass. This is my family. I am divorced. The man in this picture is Dom, my ex husband and the wonderful father to my kiddos. We have been separated for a 1.5 years (this time) and our divorce was final in March. We live 1 mile apart and see our kids everyday. We take family vacations together and no we do not hook up! (Just thought I would get that out there because I have been asked A LOT! Trust me, if it ain’t happening when you’re married, it doesn’t happen when you’re divorced! 🤣🤣 #truth ). Is this easy? F*** NO! This past week Dom and I have been clashing with everything! Distance learning and co-parenting have been not been easy. We have not seen eye to eye and there have been many nights when I think to myself “thank God I get to go home w/out him.” So if you’re on either side, trust me this Sh** is hard. Both sides have hurdles, and many days Mountains. So if you see my post and stories and think I have the magic answer or key to successfully getting along with my ex...I don’t. I’m trying to figure this out one day at a time and trust me it’s hard. But I do know this: When I think about my children and their needs, their desire for us to still do family days and be together, I drop what has happened in the past and show up for them. I hope that even after divorce my kids can see that God works wonders and love can still exists. About 5 yrs ago, my baby cousin, Grace, @graceellis17 came to intern for my tiny business here on the Gulf Coast. That led to a job where she trained hard and made our business all the better (thank goodness for millennials! 💻) She not only worked for us, but she coached at Militia Fitness, and managed food trucks trying different avenues. Grace can do anything. Through the process, we went on many a backpacking adventure together both wanting to try it out and loved it! @hghrgrnd Gracie is an old soul, one whom everyone and I mean EVERYONE loves. She’s become the baby sister I never had but always wanted and a true friend. As she is young and adventurous (must run in our blood 😉) she’s ready for cooler weather and mountaineering. I can’t say that I wouldn’t be right there with her if I was younger!! So the Tennessee mountains 🏔 is the new home that has called her. And I couldn’t be more proud of her. She has all the talent and success and grit you could hope for in a sweet but strong gal! We will miss her terribly, but are so excited to see her fly onto new adventures!! #lininbio👆 Dunbar Cave: ~1 hr north of Nashville, near Clarksville, Dunbar is part of the state parks system of Tennessee. Though not as impressive as Mammoth National Park, it’s worth a visit due to its archeological uniqueness, geology, and cultural history - the highlight (beyond the cave itself) is the ancient drawings from early Native Americans on the cave walls (in addition to a lot of other interesting graffiti from the 1800s). Before you visit, you will need to book tickets online - tours are small (8 people) and there are select days / times of availability and seasonal (ex - May through October on Wednesdays through Sundays at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm). Adults are $18 / visit and children are $12 / visit - no children below age 5 are allowed. Every ticket holder will need to bring close toed shoes and a flashlight (no lights in the cave beyond the flashlights brought by visitors; if you forget your flashlight, buy one in the visitor center). Youll then check into the visitor center and sign a waiver (tip: Go 🚽 before the tour located in the visitor center.) Path to cave takes about 10-15 minutes. The tour itself takes between an hour and an hour and a half - and youll get to see the small stream in the cave, visit different rooms, stopping to hear about the Native American drawings (note: only a few but I found them very interesting), as well as hear the other cultural history of the cave (in more recent history, it was used for music and dancing). At one point, your guide will ask you to turn off all lights to experience complete darkness! Unlike Mammoth, there are not tons of stalagtites / stalagmites, but there are some notable ones towards the end of the tour. This past weekend, on a drive to maintain our sanity, Ron turned to me and asked, “If everything was completely normal right now, what would you be doing?” . After thinking about how glorious it would be to walk into Wawa and pour myself a piping hot 24oz cup of their French Vanilla coffee, I said in response, with tears rolling down my cheeks, “I would hug my nieces as tightly as I possibly could.” . For a man who has a solution to most things, his silence said it all. . He knew he couldn’t bring them to me any quicker than I could put an end to this quarantine. . It.just.was. . And in the midst of the rampant uncertainty we are all living at the moment, it became clear that this was the crux of what we are being called to do. . To make peace with the “just is.” . To learn to dwell in the “in between.” . To feel the fear and keep loving. . To stop looking high and low for a sense of control. . To let go. . So, in the spirit of acceptance and transparency, I have been taking breaks from mindset exercises, ‘positive vibes only’ and my own shame. And instead, surrendering to the feelings of missing these faces.👆🏻 It has been surprisingly freeing. . 𝔽𝕝𝕒𝕤𝕙𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 to September 2013 when we took the kids to Port Douglas for the first time. We stayed at the 𝑺𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒏 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒕 which is huuuge and has the most amazing lagoon pools 😍 And really... its all about the pool for my kids 😜 ... They were so little here! (Excuse the bad photo quality 🤭) Since then, the resort has undergone a multi- million dollar refurbishment 🤩... and we are so excited to visit Port Douglas and Cairns again in 3.5 weeks! We havent been on a vacation since Europe this time last year (Thanks COVID 🤦♀️) and cannot wait to get away! As we see that the shadows, which at morning and evening so large, almost entirely disappear at midday...60s hit and you start to understand youre over the hill and sand that slips through the hour glass escapes you the harder you squeeze. If youre fortunate enough to have a family, now more than ever you realize how paramount family is...no one wants to die alone. 70s are a realization of death like never before, and wrinkles indicate where smiles have been. Walks and phone calls with loved ones and what friends remain are everything. If youre lucky to make it to your 80s & 90s you’re just happy and grateful to have made it that far. You enjoy the small things like never before. The comforting feeling of fresh socks, the site and sound of a baby, the feeling of sunshine, the smell of rain, the hugs of family...As you take your final breaths surrounded by family, you can’t help but feel overwhelmed by time and its value...Tears are shed and hands are squeezed as an offering to the Gods for an exchange of time...It’s in this moment you realize how remarkably beautiful it is to live and die and that its time to go...It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. MISSION BAY// 💦 I could not have dreamed up a better staycation to celebrate the end of Summer and life in general. @paradisepointsd resort took such amazing care of us and is so quintessential San Diego {with Hawaiian vibes 🌴} which was the perfect option for us since we couldn’t make it to Hawaii • From pool play {5 pools here!} to renting a surrey 🚲 to enjoying a boat rental in Mission Bay {thanks to @actionsportrentals }, there was never ending fun to be had. Paradise Point also has mini golf, rental bikes, 🎾 tennis courts, and hosted kids crafts which make it the ideal family vaycay location 👌🏼 • Our beachside bungalow was right on Mission Bay and it was so nice to step outside our room to put our toes in the sand. We even enjoyed a hosted bonfire 🔥 thanks to the super friendly staff here who set everything up for us {chairs, a fire + s’mores supplies}. • Everyone we came across was so friendly and kind. Masks were in effect and everything was so clean and professionally handled. I keep thinking that as I reflect on the trip we just took the words will come, but weve been back a few days now and Im still at a loss to find the right ones. Flashback to the pictures I shared of Madeline running to my mom on the beach. In those pictures my mom was terminal and she actually passed 3 weeks later. We spread her ashes in the ocean where we had our last special trip with her because it was so perfect. Madeline helped to spread them. Ever since 2009 we have visited the same vacation spot in her memory, spending much time doing the same things we did with her on that last trip. When Madeline knew she was terminal, and asked to be turned into angel dust (as she always referred to my moms ashes) she asked us to spread some of her with my mom. I can remember her huge smile when I told her we would do that for her. We decided to wait and go at the same time we do every year. It was a quick, exhausting and emotional trip but all in a good way. The time with our families was priceless. The kids were incredibly brave- especially Juju who I know felt Madelines absence with every move she made this past week. Although we knew we were following Madelines wishes, and although we have already received our confirmation that she is with my mom, we were given one more of the most beautiful signs that night- an absolutely beautiful rainbow at 8:22 pm shown brightly and perfectly over the ocean where she was reunited her Mimi. It was surrounded by deep orange clouds when the rest of the sky was dark. It was one of those skies you could actually feel. Just like in the picture taken at the same ocean, I could picture them smiling and embracing each other. Shes ok❤️ And she is continuing to do a remarkable job of letting us know that. ❤️ - @prayers.for.madeline on Instagram
