I love the term “pleasure practice”. First off “masturbation” does not sound sexy at all! Actually, the Latin meaning of the word is “to pollute your hand”. 😑. No wonder why we are riddled with so much shame and guilt as a society! ✨ When you move from masterbation to a pleasure practice you are creating a space for more love and play within your own being. It becomes an honoring of your beautiful body, full of arousal and eroticism. It’s a time for you to revel and explore in your essence, with the life force energy we all come from! It’s a deconstructing of all the density we carry around sexual energy. Just like yoga or meditation, it’s a practice. There is always room for more understanding and growth of who we are at our core. This doesn’t mean the practice is always incredibly orgasmic and amazing because it’s a process of awareness and deep connection. It’s discovering your programs around sex and sexuality that you haven’t realized. It’s learning the ways in which you weren’t actually taking care of or honoring yourself. It’s embodying your core essence and self acceptance. ✨ In my current coaching certification we have weekly practices, each week with a different aim and focus. Sometimes I’m not in the mood. Sometimes I’m not feeling myself, sometimes life is to distracting and I don’t feel like putting aside the time. Yet it is such an empowering process to really create a sacred, honoring, loving space for myself. When I go into the practice I never know what to expect, it ranges from mind blowing, peaceful, loving, heart breaking, emotional, stagnant, revealing, erotic, expansive, and everything in between. I became so fixated and strongly convinced I wouldn’t be happy until I had my teeth fixed. What I didn’t realise - that I do realise now - is that imperfections is what makes us unique. Our little quirks is what makes us special. And striving for perfection does not necessarily make you happy. This past year I’ve learnt that I should just be happy with what I had. Learn to love the imperfections & little quirks and not to “fix” them. Nothing should require fixing unless it’s health related. So this year I will consciously try to make life choices that will better my health & wellbeing rather than appearance. #Storytime!! I actually deleted my last caption because I wanted to share my excitement and explain why this photo means so much to me. This weekend was the first time in a long, long time that I’ve gone outside without color corrector or some kind of makeup because I’ve been dealing with a form of #hyperpigmentation called #melasma, which results in gray-brown patches on the face. I’ve spent years trying to hide my hyperpigmentation. I LOVE the sun! Like, I’m the one you’ll find laying in the sun for hours like a hippo in the savannah. But a few years ago, I noticed a few dark spots on my forehead, then a few days later it looked like I had a dark mustache. Soon, my complexion changed and I had gray-brown hyperpigmentation all over my face. I had no idea what to do. Strangely enough, I felt ashamed. My whole face changed; family members back in SA gawked at the drastic change. You should have seen me showing up at kiddie soccer games in the morning with a full face beat. I was desperate to hide what was happening to my skin. As someone who had never worn sunscreen but got lots of sun exposure, I had never consider a connection. After lots of visits to my dermatologist and taking an active role in protecting my skin, I finally feel like I can leave the house without looking like I’m going to a photo shoot. Also, I can leave the shame behind and embrace a new normal. I may never return to my normal skin tone, but I can live with this so I’m celebrating. I was in the sun, with SPF and a hat, and my skin was glowing. Hair:::now I got tired of watching my hair fall out 15 strands at a time and wondering when it would clump out. My scalp was prickling and tingling and uncomfortable. I was worried. Feeling in the back of my mind concern about my hair. Would it fall out in convenient and in opportune moment? So after spending the day frolicking with friends yesterday, wearing a hat to keep my hair on, I decided to shave my hair off myself today. I got some help from Thing Two and Robin toward the end. It’s actually not as easy as you think it is to shave your own head.The things you learn if you’re willing to be taught. Frankly, it’s quite empowering. I feel like a rebel. This is not something I would ever do in real life because, “What would my parents say?!” Even at 48 years old I’m still influenced by what my parents will say. I still want that approval. Today marks the first day of LEO season! Summer vibes are in full swing & I’m totally feeling excitement and love in the air. A few days ago, a line from the song “Bittersweet Symphony” appeared during my morning meditation. Right then, I finally experienced a full-body understanding of what those song lyrics meant. I felt the power of true acceptance fill my cells. Acceptance that “Im a million different people from one day to the next, I cant change my mold, no, no, no, no, no”. I am no longer allowing others to put me in a mold AND I am also not changing my own mold (👈🏼 this last one was the revelation). Upon reflecting, I realized a new code had been unlocked within me for an “operating system update”. Instead of resisting being million different people from one day to the next, or willing that part of me to change.....I accept it. Embrace it even. It’s a superpower. This was possible because of the world-scale slowdown during shelter in place. As crazy as that was, it made peace & quiet accessible like never before. And I made sure to absorb all of it so that now, I can peacefully & quietly observe the million versions of me & still be in control. Seeing & accepting others, seeing & accepting myself. So...yeah. LEO season is dripping with clarity. And I’m being called to spread the love & excitement. When you offer advice and support to someone in need, are you A) sharing your strength with that person, or B) reminding them of their weaknesses? Read that again. While it is soooooo kind of you to want to help in the first place, there is a huge difference between providing validation and hope to a person in need, and sharing what’s known as “toxic positivity”. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 “𝐭𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲”? Saying things like “just choose to be happy”, “stop being so negative” or “it’s not that bad – other people have it way worse”, for example, that only serves to make the person feel worse about their situation, guilty for having the bravery to express deep, painful emotions, and seeming lack of control over their life. So the next time you’re confronted with a troubled friend or loved one, instead of reminding them of their weaknesses through well-intentioned toxic positivity… Offer them your strength instead, through verbal affirmations that they’re not alone, that you believe in them, and that you’re going to be there by their side through all of it. Or through physical affirmations of a hug, comforting them when they cry, listening, or simply sitting with them through it. I really am convinced it’s the worst place on 🌎 😚Have been feeling very protective of my beloved New York since this all began. The “should I stay or should I go” narratives are as old as the city itself. Those of us who stay now can rebuild and frankly rethink what this city should be. I moved here nine months after 9/11, having lived here the summer before, and didn’t bat an eye, because my friends were here and there was life. Always life. ✨A week wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the hospital! : ✨I woke up with swelling in both legs from ankle to hip. I went to my doctor and took an ultrasound to rule out blood clots and also did some bloodwork. I’ll know more tomorrow. : ✨Many chronic pain warriors know that there is often not just one thing that makes days difficult. There are frequently other health challenges related to medications or mobility (or lack of), etc. I think this swelling is related to my having to sleep sitting up. I haven’t received my test results back but I will keep you posted. And my fellow TN and MS warriors, my hat is off to you for managing more than one issue. Make SELF-CARE and SELF-LOVE a priority #personaldevelopment You don’t hear me preaching these things because it’s fun… I preach them because it’s exactly what worked for me. I didn’t always FEEL BADASS, in fact it was quite the opposite! I was tired, exhausted, resentful, and I didn’t even know what my dreams or goals were. I felt like I had lost myself and I was only surviving the days. Thankfully that only lasted for FOUR years. But knowing what that felt like was a powerful experience and THATS why I want to share the steps I took (above) to help anyone who might be feeling how I did. There is hope and a way out! Hey.. you... yes, you. Wanna know a secret? I’m almost 40. Here’s some additional truth for you- the only makeup I have on is my eyebrows because they all but fell out due to Lyme... and... I’m not wearing a bra, cuz- let the girls fly. Lol 😂 . . . Sure, I have some wrinkles and my girls are a little less perky than they use to be. I have sun spots and freckles, and my teeth aren’t straight despite my years with braces as a teen... but you know what matters even more than all of these things? I love myself. . . . I made the decision a few years ago that I was putting myself first (finally) and despite how long it had taken me to get to that place... I was embracing it and owning it and enjoying it. There’s a girl inside me who would NEVER have been willing to go without a bra, or makeup- but she and I had a conversation, worked some things out and she’s decided to let me put on my big girl panties and be ME. . . . I’m not always right. I’m so far from perfect. I make mistakes. But I love fiercely. I put value in my relationships and if you have entry in my life you’ve earned that spot so THANK YOU, because I’m blessed to have you with me. . . . I so hope you can all learn to love yourselves a little more- being home and being forced to reflect more offers us chances to dig deep into our souls and find what makes us really happy. I’ve been meaning to review the @tinge_by_sabrina_suhail products for a while now. So today when I got dressed to record a video I took a selfie to show you the results. Sabrina custom blended and sent me the concealer and Everyday Natural Powder Foundation. I also wanted a creamy caramel colour for the lips and cheeks and told her to give me something without shimmer. What amazes me aren’t just the textures (though they’re exactly what I wanted) but the shades, which she got to match without ever meeting me. The concealer reminds me of the Creamy Concealer by Nars, though with a little lesser coverage. The texture is smooth, blends easily, doesn’t settle into creases and is an exact match for my complexion. The Foundation is more of a loose powder since it doesn’t provide full coverage. But that’s what I like about it. Because I have dry skin I hate matte powders so this is great for me. I chose the creamy lipstick because again, matte and long wear aren’t attractive to me. For me, one of the enjoyable aspects about lipstick is things the process of reapplying it. This caramel is exactly what I was looking for. It’s replaced my other favourite (Tom Ford in Nubile) to wear in all my beauty videos and Zoom calls. Swipe left to see the products. The makeup is cruelty free and made in India. Babies may need feeding or attending to, toddlers want to jump on you or be carried...- it need not mean the towel needs to be thrown in. I had planned on using some kettlebells today and doing a 30 mins session including lunges and swings... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No way was that gonna happen with this guy around and it wouldn’t have been safe either with the amount he weaves in between and around me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I could have just scrapped it completely- but instead I decided to do something I know I should do more of and did some GLUTE ACTIVATION work. He loved it and there was no risk of any weights injuring anyone ☺️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whether you are pre/post natal or neither. Male or female- I truly urge you to invest in a good glute band and do daily activation work on the ass. Especially since last few months many of us may not have been as active as we have been. Working from home etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I managed 45 secs work/15 secs rest on these. Ass was on fire during and after! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Little guy had a blast and kimmy still got something done. SUMMERTIME Met nog licht vermoeide ogen kijk ik terug op fantastische weken als juf van groep 8. Met mijn waanzinnige groep 8 collega’s hebben we ondanks Corona een kamp van drie dagen georganiseerd, een musical die 4 keer is opgevoerd en wij heel wat avonden laat in bed lagen. En dan heb ik het nog geen eens over hoe vroeg we in de ochtend weer op school waren. Als je dan ziet hoe de kinderen en ouders genieten dan zijn wat uurtjes minder slaap niet zo’n probleem. Die uurtjes haal ik deze dagen wel weer in. De zomervakantie is namelijk begonnen! Komende week heb ik nog een aantal afspraken staan met bruidsparen. In september gaat er namelijk volop getrouwd worden. Daar kijk ik meer dan ooit naar uit! En nu.....pak ik nog maar een kopje koffie en geniet van even helemaal niets. Goals are knocking at my door! Never did I imagine I’d be in my forties taking swimming lessons alongside my toddler. You see, growing up my dad never threw me into a lake or river to learn and fend for myself. 🤷🏻♀️I am also terrified of water since I almost drowned over 20 years ago. I’m grateful for this opportunity with a fantastic and patient coach. In my near future I see continued workouts, race miles, and biking among other activities that involve swimming. Landed at midnight my time and had to be up at 5:45am for meetings that started at 9am my time. I was exhausted. But I couldn’t sleep. My spirit was troubled. Not just by the lack of justice for Breonna Taylor, but for the response to it. As the black community cried and grieved, we were met with calls to “get over it,” “stop playing the victim,” “stop perpetuating the race narrative.” And it came from people who profess to love and follow Jesus. My brothers and sisters in Christ. Do you have any idea what that’s like? Let me paint the picture for you clearly. My mother allowed her boyfriend to sexually abuse me for the majority of my childhood. She had him put in jail once for it, but she took me with her on the day of his release to pick him up and bring him back. Shortly thereafter, he began abusing me again. And I learned to never say another word because she knew... and didn’t care. When I was finally old enough to confront her about it, I told her how deeply it wounded me to know she chose him over me, and do you know what she said? “If you would have just kept your legs closed, that would have never happened.” If I... at five years old... would have just... not allowed myself to be a victim. I made my way to the gym this morning to run. To let my body release the pain through sweat. To let my spirit refocus on God through prayer. Because as hurt as I am, I also recognize the responsibility I have as a leader. No matter how deeply my heartaches, I have to patch up the cracks and lead the change I wish to see in this world. 🎉Allie, 10 years old, our sweet girl who is celebrating her 2nd Gotcha Day with our family. Two years ago we picked up our newest foster from @pupstarzrescue. We weren’t looking to add a third dog to our family but Allie changed all that. You can swipe to see the pictures of Allie when she was first surrendered to Pupstarz 😢. They gave her a full medical work over (including a much-need pawdicure) and we then gave her regular medicated baths to help her overcome some previously untreated skin issues. We are so grateful to Pupstarz for all they did for Allie and all they do for SO MANY dogs and cats and right now are friends are in need of URGENT donations due to a $20k vet bill that they’ve spent helping some urgent medical cases! I’m happy in love but these boys are my everything. I was born in Vietnam and my Dad and I escaped on a fishing boat and lived in a refugee camp for a year before coming to California. Catch your kids being good. What does that mean, and why should you do it? We always acknowledge when our kids are doing the wrong thing. When they push or hit their sibling, when they throw their cup across the room, when they do the opposite of what you ask them to do —we always notice. But we don’t always notice when kids are being great, or quite simply when they are are doing what they’re supposed to be doing —Like helping their sibling without being asked, or sitting at the table and eating their entire lunch, or starting their homework without being asked, or putting their shoes on when you ask them to put their shoes on. Yes, some of these things are just expected, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t acknowledge them. These are excellent opportunities to praise your child. If we acknowledge/praise/thank them then we are helping them realize that their decision to listen to mom/dad or help their sibling, etc was a great choice! And they’re more likely to make that choice again in the future. Our lives are pretty crazy right now. I took this picture while in #Nashville on a day when all I wanted to do was crawl under the bed and cry. . My heart was heavy from yet another black person being gunned down by police, while being unarmed. . Wondering what will become of the American theater and if things will really change. Or will people just donate here or there, post things, have surface conversations, but not truly look inside of themselves and search their hearts to see how things need to change. . I had put on some weight and wasn’t feeling my body that week. . My face was breaking out and my bunions were swollen. . I was creating my own art and feeling really proud of it. But moments of doubt would slip in. . Bread and sugar drinks were becoming my best friends and I felt like something was missing. . I finally caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror, looked deep into my eyes, and a voice said, “Stand up friend.” . “Reclaim space for you. You can go stand in the sun light and cry. There are so many positive things, joy, and light that you can bask in. There is work to be done, so while you’re feeling all these feelings set this world on fire with those feelings and live in that light!!” . So, I grab a hat from my moms closet, my yellow dress, my slides, my beach chair, and my dads hat, pumped some music, and through tears celebrated the small things!! . I heard God and the ancestors talking to me. Guiding me. Helping me understand this space and time. . So, if you are having crappy moments like I have had or even if you are just living it up!! I wear less makeup now than ever in my life (this has been the case even before quarantine) and I sat down to think about why. 1. I don’t care what people think as much is probably the main reason. 🙌🏼 2. I’m lazy and I find getting ready for the day and taking the day off the two biggest wastes of time. Yet, I do love the feeling of being done up, and clean skin before bed. I wish I could just snap my fingers. 🥴 3. I don’t need to look older anymore. I think makeup can be aging and in my teens and twenties I always wanted to look more mature. Now at 35, I want to tap stay on this little poker game of life. 🤚🏼 4. I honestly think my skin is the best it’s ever been. I’ve thrown out all the toxic stuff, make my routine a priority, my hormones (despite always being pregnant and/or breastfeeding) feel pretty balanced, and I’m very happy with the products I’ve been using!
