Maddox and I had the best afternoon pool day. He is 23 months old today, and I’m also 20 weeks pregnant today! Half way done!!!! Yahoooo! This pregnancy has definitely gone by faster, I think because I’m so busy with this little energizer bunny! 3 years cancer free. This time of year seems to always invoke this strange anxiety in the air for me. (Little more during a global pandemic also lol) those days of waking up each morning with shortness of breath to a life that was/is so uncertain and absolutely out of our control. It’s funny how these life events get so deeply stored in your body, and how it remember and as well how deeply it can transform. Life is always both/and. Though it doesn’t have the sting as sharp as the beginning it still serves as a reminder of that season of life, that it has given us far more gifts that we could ever imagine. Connection, healing, a little more wisdom, and the gift to let go into life as it is. I am so grateful, proud and honoured to be hubby to this goddess of strength, honesty, courage and good times. I sometimes feel for my husband being married to a photographer. “Honey please take our picture in front of the toilet; the light is just beautiful right now.” 😂 🚽 The thing is, no matter how small, how not fancy, how not magazine perfect your home is, I will always capture the magic and love in those 4 walls if given the chance. You don’t need an outdoor session to get beautiful family photos. Your home is more special and more a part of your family’s story than a random field could ever be. for as long as i can remember i’ve always dreaded the pool because it meant i had to put on a swim suit after swimming in my pool for the first time all summer i came to some realizations that i’d like to share: - no one, absolutely no one, is looking at your body and thinking to themselves that girl doesn’t look good - prioritizing not having to wet your hair is probably the worst excuse to not have a good time in a pool - your ed thoughts are just simply thoughts! they’re not true and it’s silly to make it seem like those thoughts are valid - those thoughts or anxiety that you may have all melt away under the sun with good company and laughter i feel like such a cheese ball for saying it but life is truly way too short to just let your eating disorder or anything rather to get in the way of being happy and enjoying yourself. not sure if anyone needed to hear this but if you did i’m right there with ya, sis. - @sweatwsoph on Instagram

Day 28: Swap Changing Your Appearance for Imperfection An unintended (but very welcome) consequence of my zero waste journey has being reconsidering my relationship with “beauty”. ⠀⠀ A few years ago, a female colleague commented on a picture of mine suggesting that I shouldn’t smile in a certain way because it accentuates the lines on my forehead. I felt so embarrassed that she had said this because I hadn’t really seen the lines on my forehead as a problem before. Not long afterwards, I had a new haircut to hide them. ⠀⠀ Part of my zero waste journey has had me auditing what I bring into my home. I’m sad to say that products which I’d purchased to change my appearance formed a large proportion of that waste. ⠀⠀ It made me see that I need to accept these so-called imperfections and stop trying to change the way I look. Not only is it not good for the environment, it isn’t good for me and it definitely isn’t something I want to tacitly approve or accept. ⠀⠀ So here I am, in a sweater with a pulled thread, with my unmanageable hair that is a million different colours from years of dyeing it and smiling in a way that accentuates my lined forehead. This👆🏻 is my smile when I realize my next travel is in exactly 10 days! ✈️ I’m so excited for this month coming up. I really don’t want to spoiler anything guys, specially cuz with today situation nothing Is really sure🤷🏻♀️ In times of Corona, I think, the way of traveling changed a lot, but I would be fake if I would tell you to “stay home”. It made sense, at the beginning, when no one was ready to this kind of emergency, when we had to give to out medical staff the time to understand how to deal with it. Now I believe that the situation is way different. Don’t get me wrong, we still have to be careful, respecting others, using masks,washing hands.. but does it really change anything if I do this walking around Malta, Madrid or Paris?! Right before to get on the plane I will do the rapidCovid test💉 (around 20€) and on my travel budget, this time, I’m considering 1 test per week. I believe this is a smart and safe way to travel. When these gorgeous three siblings are much older, I hope theyll look back at this photo and get taken right back in time. Right back to when things seemed simpler, and the MOST fun you could have on a sunny Saturday morning, was seeing how many of you could pile on the tyre swing at the bottom of the garden (and just how high you could push it!) The financial reality of months off the road has started to set in and I’ve felt all the things. Stress, worry, anxiety, fear, anger. You name it, I’ve probably felt it. I want to be honest because I know many of you are struggling with your own battles right now. I just want to say this: it’s ok to not be ok. It’s ok to feel whatever it is you’re feeling. It’s ok to be honest with your friends when they ask, “how are you?” It’s ok to focus on self-care. It’s ok to ask for help, to talk to a counselor, to feel sad. It’s ok. Looking at this photo makes me smile. It makes me appreciate all the times over the past few years when joy was the norm and bad days were rare. Maybe Madeleine is right. Pues ya ha pasado un año más. ¡31 ni más ni menos! Un año desde que decidí parar y respirar. Organizar y ordenar. Pensamientos, personas, vivencias, proyectos... No hay día que pase que no agradezca este año. Ha sido un año raro sí. Nada ha sido como esperábamos pero ¿cuándo lo es? Creo que no me equivoco al suponer que todos los que me estáis leyendo ahora mismo, habéis experimentado en vuestras propias carnes lo que significa que todo cambie en un instante. Ya sea para bien o para mal. Dentro de toda esta locura, y el día que mi cuerpo me lo permite, intento ser lo más positiva posible. Creo que ahora mismo es un súper acto de rebeldía. Ir contra corriente. También pienso que es un privilegio que por desgracia no todo el mundo se puede permitir, así que cuando puedo, intento ser positiva por quienes me rodean. No os voy a mentir, fácil no es... parece que cada día nos lo ponen más difícil. Ojalá poder pedir que todo se arregle para aquellos que lo quieren con todo su corazón. Ojalá una varita, un gesto, una persona para llegar y cambiarlo todo para bien. Sería tan fantástico, tan mágico. Cuando era pequeña lo creía de verdad. Creía en ese súper poder en las personas y las cosas. Cómo el tomillo cuando estás resfriado. Como la visita de alguien querido cuando lo necesitas. Ojalá así de privilegiados todos. It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. Sophie Beardsworth Age: 21 Study: 3rd year Medic Born: Manchester Sophie is the kind of person you would want to be your loved ones doctor. She carries her clear aptitude for medicine with a levity and sincerity that would calm even the most concerned of patients. We sat down and spoke about everything from her desert island necessities to her interest in continuity of care and her time spent as a caregiver. Even when she speaks of her medical experiences they resonate with a genuine investment in humanity, a level of simple connection to the core of care that is empathy. It can be easy for medical professionals to disassociate the discipline from the people, but Sophie shows no sign of this. In fact she is inherently connected to the humanity of medicine. And as we speak she mentions her work experience at Deloitte, a major, multinational accounting organisation, and she recalls how it felt unnatural for her in comparison to grit of the work she saw in hospitals. It is crazy and wonderful to know there are still people who instead of the highest pay grade choose to serve and heal. Her desert island picks are perfect evidence of this choice. She would take Harry Potter as her book and a family and friends scrapbook as her luxury item, and this is a type of survival- staying human. Choosing to study medicine seems as radical and altruistic as choosing to be stranded on an island with family pictures. Sophie is wholeheartedly human no matter the island or hospital.
