#HerosInMyBook ~~ Medgar Wiley Evers (July 2, 1925 – June 12, 1963) was killed by a clansman and stayed free while the all white juries kept having hung juries, failing to deliver justice. The assassin was finally jailed in 1994 a full 30 years after the killing. Black Americans have suffered long enough. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Medgar Wiley Evers was an American civil rights activist in Mississippi, the states field secretary for the NAACP, and a World War II veteran who had served in the United States Army. He worked to overturn segregation at the University of Mississippi, end the segregation of public facilities, and expand opportunities for African Americans, which included the enforcement of voting rights. A college graduate, Evers became active in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s. Following the 1954 ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education that segregated public schools were unconstitutional, Evers challenged the segregation of the state-supported public University of Mississippi, applying to law school there. He also worked for voting rights, economic opportunity, access to public facilities, and other changes in the segregated society. Evers was awarded the 1963 NAACP Spingarn Medal. Evers was assassinated in 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith, a member of the White Citizens Council in Jackson, Mississippi. This group was formed in 1954 in Mississippi to resist the integration of schools and civil rights activism. As a veteran, Evers was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.[2] His murder and the resulting trials inspired civil rights protests; his life and these events inspired numerous works of art, music, and film. All-white juries failed to reach verdicts in the first two trials of Beckwith in the 1960s. He was convicted in 1994 in a new state trial based on new evidence. Medgars widow, Myrlie Evers, became a noted activist in her own right, serving as national chair of the NAACP. His brother Charles Evers was the first African American to be elected as mayor of a city in Mississippi in the post-Reconstruction era; he won the office in 1969 in Fayette. - @oneleggedlister on Instagram

We should not be held back from pursuing our full talents, from contributing what we could contribute to society, because we fit into a certain mold––because we belong to a group that historically has been the object of discrimination. There is a lot to say but even more to do. RIP #RuthBaderGinsburg 💔 Your fight for equality and pioneering work has inspired generations to carry out our contributions with actions. Ive had the privilege of performing in some incredible places around the world, from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, to the Piazza del Duomo in Tuscany and Soho House in NYC. But nothing so far has beaten this outdoor piano in Harlem. Performing for kids and seeing them respond to music so passionately is the most rewarding thing in the world. ⠀ ⠀ And so while I cant be performing in person for kids right now, I will be performing live via Instagram this Friday in support of Starlight Childrens Foundation...to help them bring a sense of comfort and normalcy to hospitalized kids. Our kids are our future...lets make sure its bright.⠀ ⠀ Please go to the link in my bio “Concert for a Cause” to chip in! Just $5 can make a difference. Tell your friends, spread the word, share the love! The kids need us! And I will reward you in songs 😀 - @jenniferleesnowden on Instagram

Season 1, episode 9: Sports Buddies This scene even today 🤣She was such a spitfire. ❤️ Tony: I’m gonna watch the Knicks beat the Sixers. Sam: Dad. Wake up and smell the coffee. Dr. J’s gonna run us off the court. 🏀 🤣🤣🤣 Now I had to do a little googling because who is Dr. J? I feel like I should know since I am in Sixers territory. But we are going back 36 years here and I am a few years younger than Alyssa. From Wiki: Julius Winfield Erving II (born February 22, 1950), commonly known by the nickname Dr. J, is an American retired basketball player. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential basketball players of all time, Erving helped legitimize the American Basketball Association (ABA)[1] and was the best-known player in that league when it merged into the National Basketball Association (NBA) after the 1975–76 season. He is widely acknowledged as one of the games best dunkers. Erving brought the practice into the mainstream.[2] His signature dunk was the slam dunk, since incorporated into the vernacular and basic skill set of the game in the same manner as the crossover dribble and the no look pass. He played for the Sixers from 1976-87 and helped them to the 82/83 NBA champs. So. There ya have it. Sports trivia 101. The more you know. 🌈 #whostheboss #tonydanza #alyssamilano #tonymicelli #samanthamicelli #80sTV #80ssitcom #RetroTV #76ers #sixers #sixersbasketball #knicks #basketball - @whostheboss_edits on Instagram
