#lininbio👆 Dunbar Cave: ~1 hr north of Nashville, near Clarksville, Dunbar is part of the state parks system of Tennessee. Though not as impressive as Mammoth National Park, it’s worth a visit due to its archeological uniqueness, geology, and cultural history - the highlight (beyond the cave itself) is the ancient drawings from early Native Americans on the cave walls (in addition to a lot of other interesting graffiti from the 1800s). Before you visit, you will need to book tickets online - tours are small (8 people) and there are select days / times of availability and seasonal (ex - May through October on Wednesdays through Sundays at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm). Adults are $18 / visit and children are $12 / visit - no children below age 5 are allowed. Every ticket holder will need to bring close toed shoes and a flashlight (no lights in the cave beyond the flashlights brought by visitors; if you forget your flashlight, buy one in the visitor center). Youll then check into the visitor center and sign a waiver (tip: Go 🚽 before the tour located in the visitor center.) Path to cave takes about 10-15 minutes. The tour itself takes between an hour and an hour and a half - and youll get to see the small stream in the cave, visit different rooms, stopping to hear about the Native American drawings (note: only a few but I found them very interesting), as well as hear the other cultural history of the cave (in more recent history, it was used for music and dancing). At one point, your guide will ask you to turn off all lights to experience complete darkness! Unlike Mammoth, there are not tons of stalagtites / stalagmites, but there are some notable ones towards the end of the tour. Synthetic melatonin can make it easier to fall asleep, but much more challenging to stay asleep when it wears off. We looked at the timing of her bedtime to make sure we worked with her body’s natural biological clock to ensure she wasn’t overtired or undertired. ⁣ ⁣ We gave Gracie a visual routine and set up sleep rules so she knows exactly what is expected of her every night. I dont ask for much but Im asking with all my heart for this - that my mother be protected and supported with love as I continue the biggest transition of my life, without her. Shes been living with us almost exclusively since Cairo was born two and a half years ago and its been rough... rougher than rough, its taken my beloved Davana and I past our limit. She has singlehandedly plunged us into the darkest pits of despair and it has felt hopeless at times. If it wasnt for our fam and soulfam I dont know how we would have been able to stay positive. I own my failures in not seeking extra support in the beginning, I was naive to believe it would all work itself out so long as I kept going but Ive been humbled. Having denied it, avoided it, displaced it it feels good to finally come to a place of clarity and acceptance of my responsibility for her care. Part of that is having healthy boundaries with her and holding the truth that I can no longer sacrifice mine and my familys well being by having her live in the same home as us. I know other families have been able to successfully care for their parents with dementia and have found it very fulfilling, but its just not my case. My mother is carrying a lifetime of unprocessed trauma and as her memory continues to fade, so to does her capacity to hold it in. As such I can no longer allow her to project her pain and her fears upon Davana, who has been so good to her. I broke down in tears more than a few times in her inability to receive all the love Davana was giving her. It was so sad to see that she simply couldnt receive it. Yet, we harbor no ill will towards her and rather than resentment for the extra pain shes put our family through, I feel gratitude for the lessons and to know I must take a new approach to caring for her moving forward. Shes in Las Vegas right now near my sister, and is in good spirits. We had a great conversation earlier and she expressed her love for us and I felt it. She misses Cairo but said she doesnt want to be a barrier to us fulfilling our dreams. I let her know she wasnt and that once we find our home and settle in Ill find a place for her not too far. [Zuckertüten-Werkstatt] . Heute gab es dicke Krokodilstränen als unsere Große von ihrer Freundin erfahren hat, dass diese ihre Zuckertüte zusammen mit der Mama gebastelt hat. Und sie? Sie wollte natürlich auch! Auch ihre Zuckertüte selber basteln. Sofort. Und so richtig wusste ich sie gar nicht zu trösten. Diese Tradition des „Selber-Bastelns“ gab es bei uns nicht. Meine hat damals meine Tante gebastelt, die sehr geschickt in solchen Bastel-Dingen ist. Meine Zuckertüte war eine Überraschung für mich. . Wir haben uns dann darauf geeinigt morgen noch den Schuhkarton für ihren Kunst-Unterricht gemeinsam zu gestalten. Der Kompromiss mit dem Versprechen, dass sie die schönste Zuckertüte bekommt 🙈 haben dann geholfen. . Ich hoffe ich kann diese Ankündigung und das sehr ambitionierte Versprechen halten 🙈 . . Me apropriei de cada centímetro de circunferência rs Meu guarda roupa ficou cheio de vestidinhos justos e casaquinhos abertos que valorizassem (parecia até uniforme). E o cabelão? Representava todo aquele poder pra mim! Nina nasceu! Tive que me reconhecer de novo! Temos 9 meses p ir assimilando a barriga aos poucos e do nada, tudo muda mais uma vez. Os vestidos que eu amava não eram apropriados pra amamentação, o que eu tinha antes já não servia mais. Preciso comprar algo novo! Putz, não tem botões e o que tem não combina comigo! Vamos lá! Comprei blusinhas de alcinha, camisetas com golas grandes, camisa com botòes e fui me adaptando mais uma vez. Vejam bem, me adaptando, não me reconhecendo! Pra ficar ainda mais difícil, raspei o cabelo 😂 e se tem 4 peças no meu guarda roupa que me façam me sentir representada e realmente bonita, é muito! Estou em um processo! Até pasta no Pinterest criei pra tentar visualizar o que eu gosto hoje e que caminho posso percorrer nessa nova fase. Amanhã vou conversar com uma amiga muito especial (direto da Espanha! uiii), sobre Maternidade e Estilo. A Rafa é mãe, consultora de imagem e tem me apoiado muito nessa caminhada. “One morning I woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. I was 10 weeks pregnant after 9 months of trying and didn’t expect this. Everyone talks about morning sickness and being tired, but I couldn’t even articulate what I was feeling. I had a heavy heart and was out of it. My Mom made me go to the OB that day and she recommended I talk to someone. I felt very weird about going to therapy, picturing a couch in a dimly lit room and feared I would have to talk the entire time. It didn’t happen that way. The therapist asked me a couple questions to help facilitate the conversation and we just talked. Ultimately, I had depression and anxiety. ⠀ I felt relief because the feeling had a name and was tangible. The therapist told me it was common during pregnancy, which surprised me. I know many people who have had wonderful pregnancies or only had morning sickness. I just didn’t know anyone that struggled with what I was feeling during pregnancy. After about five sessions, the therapist recommended I take Zoloft. I thought it would instantly “fix” my feeling but it didn’t happen that way. I actually don’t remember there being an “I feel better” moment. It was a gradual change. My mind started feeling lighter and I felt more like myself a little more everyday. ⠀ I had a great relationship with my therapist. As I started feeling better my sessions started getting shorter and shorter. She helped me get back into a healthier headspace. I don’t know where my pregnancy would have gone without her help and most importantly the support of my loved ones. The hardest part was just taking that first scary step and opening up. My daughter and her bestie have been together as quarantine buddies for the last few months. Before we did, we were exclusively home and it wasn’t a good situation as everyone knows. This is their second week of “Everything School” and we have gotten into the swing of things! We get our books for the week from the library through their hold system so it’s not a long wait or mission and otherwise a lot of them are available as ebooks through the catalog. I have to admit I love it and how they’re learning with each other. . . Thanks to @MDPLS programming through Coral Gables branch today we enjoyed an interactive animal storytime with Miami Children’s Museum, it was so good!!! Now that library programming is back hopefully lots of fun free virtual live supplements will come into our lives and fill a part of the day with productive and fun distance learning. MEU RELATO DE PARTO! ✨💙 Sábado dia 29/08 já com 40 semanas e 5 dias, eu estava bastante disposta e desejando que o meu encontro com o de José não estivesse mais tão longe. De manhã cedo resolvi ir para a bola de pilates praticar alguns exercícios específicos que ajudassem tanto a estimular José, como também para aliviar os desconfortos na coluna. A tarde resolvi preparar um cházinho e a noite queria dançar, chamei meu amor @mano_walter colocamos algumas músicas dele pra tocar e dançamos bastante! 😂 A dança no sábado à noite foi tão boa que na madrugada de domingo as contrações leves começaram, conversei com minha obstetra @anasofiacalheiros e ela achou melhor me avaliar em casa para saber como eu estava, porque o encontro que eu mais queria que chegasse, estava muito perto de acontecer! No domingo monitoramos eu e José até o início da tarde, fizemos exercícios com a minha fisioterapeuta @damypilates para ajudar, usamos a bola, fizemos agachamento, me movimentei bastante. Eu estava apenas com 2cm de dilatação, as contrações eram ritmadas mas com pouca dor, resolvemos que eu iria descansar para o que viria e foi o que eu fiz, tomei um café a tarde, comi bem e lá por 17h as contrações começaram a vir com bastante dor, liguei para minha médica e ela e minha equipe resolveram voltar lá pra casa para continuar a me acompanhar. As horas foram passando e as contrações cada vez mais ritmadas e doloridas, estava sim acontecendo! Um misto de sensações começou a passar pela minha cabeça, felicidade, alegria, medo e insegurança, eu estava tentando manter a calma e sempre respirar fundo. Mas as dores só aumentavam e começaram a vir com mais frequência, fiquei mais de horas na banheira com água quente correndo para tentar aliviar, era o jeito mais fácil de eu sentir menos dor. I’m still in a little bit of shock that Sienna is 5 now. I want to give a giant shout out to @official_allamericanbutter . I ordered this a little over a month ago. Our mail has been held up for a long time and not being sent to our box because of Covid. I have to admit I was not expecting nor was ready for Alexis to loose a tooth as soon as she turns 5. 🙈 I was cooking when she screamed and said “My tooth is moving”, I froze. While checking it my stomach flipped, seriously can’t describe it my other way, thinking of it while I write this makes my stomach turn. I quickly texted few friends and some mamas here on Social Media asking for some sort of advice, not anything specific, just to hear that Will all be good and is normal. Thankfully, the process took a day and while Alexis was eating rice the tooth fell off. That just brought memories of my dad putting a string on some of my teeth and tying it to the door since they wouldn’t fall for a while but kept moving 🤦🏻‍♀️ So, she wrote the letter, left it for the toothfairy, did get the $50 she asked for and surprisingly the bill had fairysparkle all over it. P.S. I heard that’s the rate for the first tooth only 😂 And then, lil boy has been running around asking me to check his teeth 100 times a day. I’ve got some new followers here & I’ve never done an introduction - so here is my best shot! My name is Emory and I just moved to Jackson, MS this summer from Clarksdale, MS. I’ve been teaching for two years in the tiny little Delta town of Marks, MS outside of Clarksdale. I graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Special Education and I’m currently a middle school Special Education teacher. I started painting around 4 years ago in college when I got bored over Christmas break and kept working at it. Painting is a part time thing for me, which I mainly pick back up during the summer when I have time. Our Tough Kid this Thursday is Olivia... here is her story shared by her mom @leslieanne_27 My husband has 2 type 1 brothers that were diagnosed both at 4. Anytime my OB would ask “do you have any questions or concerns” at the end of the appt my husband would bring up diabetes in his family and what are the chances of our child getting it. Then came peds appts— same thing. Every well appt he would ask and dr just gave us symptoms to watch for and said really nothing more to do. Fast forward 3.5 years— mid summer time. Our daughter was always thirsty, wetting the bed more often which was totally unusual for her, waking up in a panic in the middle of the night saying “I need to go potty” . We chalked it up as it’s hot— she’s been drinking a lot of water and this is the result. She was the flower girl in a wedding and she danced the night away and ate her whole plate and everyone was saying wow you must have been hungry! (She usually didn’t eat that much). Over the next few days we noticed she was still urinating more often. She had just started Flonase for a possible allergy. We met with her allergist and he said nope not a side affect of Flonase. So we scheduled an appt for the next day with her Ped thinking maybe UTI. But that night something told us diabetes. I asked a friend her sons symptoms and my husband asked his mom his brothers symptoms and they all matched. We took her BG with my brother in laws meters and she was 507! Rushed to ER. 3am on 8/7/19–we were at TMMC ER waiting for the ambulance to transport us to Miller Children’s Hospital, where we got the official diagnosis. To say we were scared, devastated, angry, confused— none of those words explain what we were feeling. Someone shortly after told us something along the lines of, you’re going to be surprised how far you’ll come in a year. That couldn’t have been more true.
