I have some exciting news! . A few weeks ago I was asked to come on as the Executive Director of @designingdreamsusa - a nonprofit organization that redesigns bedrooms of children currently battling cancer. Designing Dreams mission is to inspire happiness and hope during a really hard time for these children and their families. Kids on treatment for cancer are often isolated from friends, school, and extracurricular activities for months, sometimes years, depending on their treatment plan. The average age of a kid fighting cancer is only 6 years old. During a time where the kids are sick and removed from their passions and hobbies, Designing Dreams brings these to them by making their dream bedroom a reality. . As most of you know, I’ve worked with kids fighting cancer for over 7 years in different capacities, and have been on the Board of Directors for Designing Dreams for the past year and a half. I am incredibly honored to take on the Executive Director role for an organization that does so much good. The Designing Dreams team is a group of impact-driven, passionate, and selfless people that make this world a better place. I’m blessed to be part of this talented and inspiring group of people. . I am taking on this ED role part-time while continuing to build my company, @livelydigitalmarketing This additional opportunity means being more intentional with the way I build Lively, ultimately only taking on brands that have social impact woven into the fabric of their company culture and want to leverage their marketing efforts to drive social change. . Expectation vs Reality • REAL TALK: I wish I could say I always looked like this first photo on wedding day. Good hair, a cute outfit, and perfectly relaxed. But more times than not, this is nowhere near the truth! On wedding day, I am sweaty(especially on those hot summer Saturdays), hair thrown up, and have a million things in my hands. • When I started this job, I felt the need to always look my best and achieve this idea of what a wedding planner looks like. The Face Behind the Camera 📸 For those who are new around here, I’m Danika. It’s been awhile since I made an introduction post, so thanks to my new followers for inspiring this. 💯 A lot has changed in life since I wrote about myself like this last year. Here are some updates: I’m now a full-time photographer, a better educated entrepreneur, a boy mom (obviously), not much of a traveler anymore (not by choice), and honestly, just a stronger and wiser woman in general. 💕 There have been so many experiences over the last year that have continued to mold me into who I am supposed to be — some excruciatingly challenging and others the most beautiful in my entire life. 🙌🏼 Being somewhat forced to pursue my passion in photography full-time was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Instead of coming home from a stressful job that I really didn’t like and spending evenings with my husband ranting about the workday, I have found that now I only talk about my photography ventures with an overflowing excitement. 🤩 It makes me happy that I am truly doing what I love! On top of that, I am a new mama as June to our beautiful boy, Brody Mateo. 🥰 It has always been my dream to be a boy mom and here I am, literally living my dream. Ironically, the timing of taking on photo full-time lined up nicely with quarantine and pregnancy. Now, I am learning how to balance mom life and work life everyday. Brody and I are slowly building our routine to make it all happen, and he has enjoyed being my assistant for a couple photo sessions already. 😊 The one thing that I have missed the most during quarantine and the early phase of motherhood is traveling. It’s been a year since I traveled and I’m literally going insane in that regard. I love getting out and exploring the world, so staying home has been tough. I look forward to the day when we can take Brody to some of our favorite destinations. 🌎 Other than that, I’m always striving to grow as an individual — my recent focuses: thankfulness and being present. Goodmorning, friends! 🤗 If you’ve been watching my stories, you know how thrilled I am about our new goat feeder! 😁 I have partnered with @murdochs_ #sponsored to share this particular feeder with you, because I think it is just perfect! 👌🏻Hay in our area is about $180-$200 a ton right now! A ton is about 30 small bales! Small bales are divided into flakes of smooshed hay! 🌾I was feeding about 3 flakes in the morning and another one or two at night! My sweet goats would eat, spread it all around, poop on it, and then ask for more! 🤦🏻‍♀️I was opening a new bale every other day! For three days now, I have been putting 2 flakes in the feeder and it takes them a good part of the day to eat every little bit of it! 😁 None is being wasted!! That’s going to cut down our hay usage by alot!! 🤔 If I had realized the difference, and the potential savings I would not have waited so long to get a feeder! 🌾I will probably build a little roof over it for the winter, or maybe just move it into the goat shed. It is heavy enough that it feels super solid, but I can still drag it by myself. The tray is wide enough to catch anything that falls, but isn’t big enough for them to climb into! 😁 It’s all in the details! Cuando yo conocí al que a día de hoy puedo decir es el amor de mi vida, el hecho de que tuviera una hija no me supuso ningún problema, es más, con el paso del tiempo me di cuenta, de que él es como es, un hombre increíble, gracias a que ella, un ser de luz, llegó a su vida. Como todas las madrastrinas, he pasado por diferentes etapas, algunas muy duras, que nos han hecho más fuertes como pareja y otras, simplemente para dejar en el olvido, pero que han servido de aprendizaje, me han hecho crecer, madurar y valorar todo aquello que me sostiene. Hay momentos en los que te sientes olvidada, simplemente desplazada, por una sociedad que te dice, que tú ahí no eres nadie, que debes disfrutar de lo bueno, pero que no debes quejarte por lo malo... “I am so blessed.” If you knew Nonny you heard her say this a million times. She had so much love and gratitude for her family. She could light up a room with her smile. She had that classic movie star quality, glamourous and poised. At any given moment ready to spontaneously sing or dance. She was the star of her own show! She experienced great loss and I think that’s why she loved so fiercely. She knew the importance of expressing her love and she showered all of us with it. She was tenacious and quick witted. The true matriarch of this family. I hope that we can carry on the legacy of strength and unconditional love she showed to all of her grandchildren. Her stories were hilarious and infamously never ending. She taught us so much about how to love and celebrate every moment of life. She was the closest grandparent I’ve had in my life and I am grateful to have known her, to have loved her and to have been loved by her. Our new 21 day meditation series has been so nice to do after my workouts this past week. They help me wind back down, be less anxious the rest of the day, listen to my body, and be more present. So I wanted to share five tips on this topic: . 1️⃣ If you’re faith-filled like me, you’ll love starting with the free version of the 2 minute Abide app meditations! @abideisprayer . 2️⃣ You don’t have to be seated. That’s usually not comfortable for me and I can’t relax so I lay down when I do my meditations. 3️⃣ Do it after a workout like I have! I started working with Stetson on designing a bandana for their holiday season, and when I mentioned the project to my uncle he said “you know your great grandfather worked at Stetson, right?” Which I did not know! But it makes sense...Stetson employed many Italian immigrants in their Philadelphia hat factory at the turn of the century. I already loved the brand because I’m a huge westernwear fan but now I feel like we have a cosmic hat-connection🌙 The fine folks at Stetson sent my new photographer friends @markkauzlarich and @mishgarcia to my studio on a beautiful Fall Saturday to get a look at the design process. I’m such a fan of Mark’s work and couldn’t be more excited with how he saw and captured it! This morning I found this old picture of what a typical rehearsal morning looks like for me and it made me laugh. A bag full of reusables, and another bag full of compost someone must have volunteered to compost for me. ⁣ ⁣ Tomorrow I would have been starting a new theatre job out in Charlottetown, which for obvious reasons has been cancelled. And for a number of reasons, I’m super bummed. ⁣ ⁣ But it’s funny, I realized one of the reasons I’m really disappointed is because I was excited to get to a new town, explore every inch of it for small businesses that I could shop from, local gardens I could take my compost to, a new cast who would inevitably ask “why do you do things like that?”, some of whom might become excited about low waste. I’d find east coast advocates to forge relationships with, environmental organizations I could go visit and learn from, and most of all, try to leave a temporary home more sustainable than when I found it. ⁣ ⁣ And it struck me this morning— this life long passion I have for being on stage and performing has become completely linked to my love of nature and the Earth, and have become a package deal. Hi! It’s me, just popping in here to do my first ever introduction ... only 3 years late 🙈 I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support I’ve received since starting this business just over three years ago. What stared out as a part time side job has turned into a full time career with one incredible employee @dougandme and is something I could have never dreamed of happening. As we all know 2020 has been one we will never forget, and I’m so thankful to each and every client and future client who has reached out to keep my small business going strong. A couple fun things you may or may not know about me: I married my high school sweetheart and he is truly the best thing in my life. He’s my rock and biggest supporter even on the most challenging of days. We have 3 beautiful busy children (8, 6 and 2) that make our world go round. Between activities, school drop offs, pick ups and our jobs it’s a crazy wild household but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Cambieranno cose importanti qui, ve lo anticipo. Sono 9 anni di Cakemania oggi. Cakemania è nato quando una webdesigner che conoscevo appena mi ha detto: “facciamo il Facebook delle torte: tu cucini, io faccio il sito. Vediamo come va!”. @marcella_marraro diversamente da me non ha mai avuto voglia di torta tutti i giorni, e dopo 3 anni mi ha detto: “che ci sto a fare qui? Continua tu, è la tua passione”. E così la mia passione ha seguito il mio percorso personale: il cake design all’inizio; poi torte complesse; poi con meno glasse e più frutta; poi con meno zucchero; poi non si vive di sole torte quindi ecco i piatti salati; poi raga io sono impallata con l’orto, con i gatti, con i cani, quindi vi parlo anche di questo e di quanto mi preme fare la mia parte per proteggere l’ambiente. A metà strada è nata la top 5 del mese, diario pubblico-privato che ha un piccolo seguito molto affezionato. Oggi sono quella in foto: una nonna che ama il giardinaggio e la cucina semplice. Non mi riconosco più nel simbolo un po’ adolescenziale di una torta rosa. Non mi riconosco più in un nome che è composto da “cake” (ci sono 400 ricette di dolci sul sito, mi merito di pensare anche a fagiolini e frittate) e da “mania” (sono più calma di quanto non sembri). So che “cakemania” confonde le idee a chi arriva su questo profilo e trova fertilizzanti fatti con i gusci delle uova, verze fermentate e attivismo. E non posso dargli torto. Quindi… per coerenza sto pensando di cambiare nome a tutto questo. Per coerenza e avere un nome che cresce e cambia con me, per non ritrovarmi un’impasse simile tra qualche anno, il nome dovrebbe essere semplicemente il mio – come mi suggeriscono le mie socie @raffaella_babygreen e @mammafelice: SashaCarnevali o addirittura Sasha. Però sono di una generazione per la quale mettersi così in evidenza è una cosa da screanzati. Passi per nome e cognome (d’altra parte stanno anche all’anagrafe), ma solo in nome?? Gnaaaapossofare (chi sono, Madonna? Seal? McLovin?). Insomma. La situazione è questa, un grande dubbio amletico: essere o non essere più Cakemania? Voi cosa dite? Cosa mi consigliate? As I recently shared, it’s been one of the hardest weeks of my life. That being said, the beginning of my pregnancy created a huge change in my normal diet, very opposite of my healthy TVW and Mexican keto foods.😝 ⠀ ⠀ Instead it was all about the carbs like sourdough bread, lots of butter, topped with meat or liver pate. I listened to my body and gave it what it needed, things happen and I know I will grow stronger and wiser from this horrible experience.⠀ ⠀ Everything happens for a reason, sometimes that reason is unexplainable and other times it is so meant to be. ONLINE STOREFRONT COMES TO TOWN’S BUSINESS WEBSITE Residents can now purchase local products from “L4A.ca” The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is excited to announce the launch of ‘Phase Two’ of our new business-oriented website L4A.ca – Everything Stouffville. On Friday, the website launched a new online shopping platform aimed at helping local businesses get their product information out the world, and to let customers buy online directly from them. “This is great addition to the website,” said David Tuley, Economic Development Officer of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and team lead. “Now when you visit the business directory, you can access their products directly from the business’s profile page.” The online shopping portion of the site, accessible by clicking ‘Shop’ in the main menu, allows users to surf by category or by a custom search. Each business has a complete profile, with all their contact information, photos, weekly specials, and social media links. The business directory is categorized into four major areas: Retail, Food, Services, and Health. The Town’s Economic Development Office is reaching out to every business weekly to update their messages about special sales, discounts or virtual offerings. My baby turned 7 today... 7! 2,555 days OLD. That’s a whole lot of days... and every single one of those days he has looked at me the way he is in this first pic! This kid is something special... like more than the average “mama always thinks the baby is something special”. But don’t be fooled, he was a FIERCE toddler (My sister said he just wanted back in the womb) But the heart on this one... it’s so big! Let me explain why... Today was his birthday... HIS day! And I walked into the room in my normal “busy walk”, and he was watching a show and he said out of nowhere, “i love you”! It literally stopped me in my tracks. Not because this is abnormal for him... cause it’s NOT! But because even on his day... when it should be all about him, he still wants to tell others how he feels about them. I didn’t even think he realized I walked in until I heard I heard him say that ❤️ and last night... for dinner, I gave the boys 2 options. They both simultaneously said the opposite... of course. But as soon as Co heard what Hudson wanted, he changed his mind. Not because he wanted it, but because he wanted Hudson to be happy! That’s the kind of kid he is! He’s wise beyond his years... He thinks rationally... keeps things super simple, he’s tender hearted to a fault, maybe a little over sensitive... but he’s just sweetest thing ever and his dimple will make it impossible to say no! Peach season is everything 🍑 drove to palisade over the weekend and got so many⁣ ⁣ Swipe for this caramelized peach buckwheat bowl that is going to be on REPEAT. Its that good 😋⁣ ⁣ If you are sensitive to oats, try out buckwheat. It is a gluten free, energy sustaining grain and can be much easier on the digestive system⁣ for many people!⁣ ⁣ How to make this beautiful breakfast bowl:⁣ ⁣ •Buckwheat : cook to package directions (I purchase mine at the Russian store. It’s the best quality.)⁣ •Hemp milk (warmed up)⁣ •Goji berries ⁣ •Pumpkin seeds ⁣ •Almond butter⁣ •Peaches- heat pan on low heat, add sliced peaches and sprinkle cinammon. Cook 3 mins each side until caramelized⁣ ⁣ Add buckwheat, hemp milk, all the toppings and sweetener if desired. This morning I woke up & I really missed Ike. He’s fine, he was laying on the floor by my feet, sleeping. But for some reason I missed him. I was painfully aware that this is all temporary. I swiped through pictures on my phone, reminiscing on our friendship. I found this old film photo Z took of us backpacking- it stopped me in my tracks. The way he looked at me with so much love & happiness. Like time doesn’t matter. Like nothing else in the world matters except for our adventure. How lucky I am that every single day this is how he moves through his life. Then, in perfect timing my friend @gabriellenelson_ sent this first picture. A film photo from a couple of weeks ago. We made it to Friday y’all. ✨ Holy cow. This was a WEEK. Little man here had an ear infection, allergies, a molar 🦷 coming in, and for the first time is experiencing some pretty wild separation anxiety. He has a new childcare routine in the mornings and is very upset with me about it. Have you experienced this? So many tears from us both. I was reminded this week when listening to a podcast by @bewellbykelly that when things are going smooth in motherhood - there’s likely a speed bump around the corner- feels like the end of the world at the time but this too shall pass! If you’re going through something like this too, embrace your village, practice self-care and know it’s only a season.
