Hello Poolside turns 3 this month, and I wanted to introduce myself. I’m Theresa, and my husband Jayson and I founded Hello Poolside after years spent living on Oahu and in New Smyrna Beach, FL, where we experienced how well Turkish towels fit with an active outdoor lifestyle. We couldn’t find many Turkish towel options on the mainland, so we decided to start our own business with the goal of offering a selection of towels in colors and designs inspired by life on the coast. And in full disclosure, I’m a total sucker for colorful stripes. We stay busy with our two kiddos (ages 12 and 7), and most weekends you can find us at the beach where Jayson surfs, and I’m on the constant search for shells and sea glass. “I always thought happiness was this ultimate beaming end goal and would happen near the end of my life. Like “when I do this- I’ll be happy”... Hi Im Rebecca and I empower single women to cook for themselves. I share lots of resources for free... meaning that I spend hours and hours and hours working for you for free. As a small way to pay back for all this work, Im asking that you share this with or tag a friend who cooks for one. There are so few resources to help us in this stage of our lives, that I want to make sure theyre aware of the free resources and ways they can invest in their wellbeing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyways, I grew up thinking that the most important thing I could do was to get married and have a family. Luckily I didnt get that from my parents or family, so Im usually totally fine with my current not-married no-family status. But I know many people, where those thoughts keep them up at night. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I worked as a clinical dietitian at a local hospital, I would SO OFTEN get asked by patients about my husband. If youre a single woman like me, youve probably experienced this too, hearing sad comments from others, hearing their comments assuming that you arent single... even from people who dont know you. These comments perpetuate that expectation and make it easy for us to internalize it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That job also actually lead me to go back to grad school and study exercise science and to do my thesis on body image. THATS the stuff, man. The reason Im so passionate about body image & how that relates to our eating patterns is summed up in one researchers quote that said something along the lines of being dissatisfied with ones body is just part of being a woman like its so ingrained into what were taught and modeled, thats just what happens... and its so true. So you think sustainable and ethical clothing is expensive? We’re often entering in mid-story. Smack dab in the middle of the movie. We’ve got before and afters with all their drama and glory, but the magic in the middle is where you’re defined. So what’s it look like when you’re caught making the stuffing and doing the ugly work? My current middle is this Fall garden. It’s the rehab part of the rehab. It’s the clearing away of road bed and cement chunks, and the replenishment of what is left. It’s little by little, one bag at a time, while the baby naps kind of work. I think it’s hard and beautiful. I think it’s worth it. I think hard, beautiful, worthy work is what gives us confidence and true happiness. Tell me, what’s your middle looking like, and how are you celebrating it? PROCESS DETAILS: Wet flat native soil, used a hand cultivator to break it up a bit and added gypsum. Dumped used/old garden soil in rows. Added fish emulsion. Dumped new potting soil on top, then shaped with a rake. Watered that down. Small town America shifts its visceral tone from a feverish collision of loudmouth hustle, to a patchwork of gorgeous landscapes and untouchable charm. Being originally from a city, I often dream of such escape. I don’t like noise too often, I prefer the quiet. The idle. Those in-between spaces, those bold moments of hyper awareness. I recently embarked on a road trip, pandemic style. Isolated in the car for hours upon hours, on the couch or hotel bed starting yet another episode of shit TV, ordering contactless delivery, and wearing my cloth mask everywhere in public — truly covering my identity in places no one knew I existed regardless. Anonymity is a funny thing. It felt... strange. But this is 2020. And it’s a strange year. I didn’t take too many pictures. To be honest, this year isn’t one I want to really remember. Instead of spending copious amounts of money on rolls for film, I just snapped the more meaningful moments on an iPhone and called it settled. And I love it. I love these pictures. They’re perfectly imperfect and just enough to still make me feel something. Although, the first picture was from early May; a time I genuinely felt happy. How many of you would be shocked to here there is an estimated 140 million orphans, today, waiting for their homes. She is constantly pouring her heart into this world and bringing people to know more about this issue 2) Chelsea spent 6 years working for A Family For Every Orphan getting to know, experience, and help families during the process of adoption from several different countries and also went so far as to live in India, not once, but twice so she could invest herself into learning about the orphan crisis first hand. This lit a fire in her heart to create her business which brings me to ... 3) This girl owns an ethical fashion boutique. What does this mean? She fills her adorable store front and online shop with ethically sourced goods/clothing from all over the world. Some are fair trade, some eco friendly, but the point is she is doing the damn thing when it comes to educating people on why what they buy matters so much. And helping create a culture around sustainability and give back brands that are really building up homes and lives rather than corporations. But it gets even better guys, this girl donates 50% of ALL profits to help the Orphan crisis. This is seriously the tip of the ice berg with her. She also is a new mom of 2 (one adopted last year and one she birthed herself all within a few months of each other) talk about superwoman am I right?! She is also a cat mom, plant lady and also breaking the stigma of motherhood and mental health by sharing her journey as a mama 🌿🐱 The point is, she’s rad. Without working on + improving ourselves every day, it would be unrealistic for us to expect a much different future from the one we have right now. It would also be unrealistic for us to perform better in the future, because we will be no different tomorrow from the person we are today. An investment in yourself is a great example of self-love, and may very well be the most profitable investment you will ever make. Recently I’ve got myself a new office and camera equipment that will allow me to no longer rely on natural lighting - which is HUGE for me. I revolve my entire schedule around the weather/sun and it’s just not a realistic way to operate for me anymore. My entire apartment has been FILLED TO THE BRIM with props. Every closet, every storage space was at a max- there’s been no room for anything else in a space I need to relax and come home to live in. I want my work to evolve and look more refined. This month I’ve learned the importance of investing in the things that make your job more fluid and make you a better you. The morning light wakes us up on this side of the house. It’s bright, soft and warm. This room particularly- it feels like you’re on a cloud. It’s a cold morning in Birmingham. I can hear the trees wave against our fence, making a sound that’s familiar to me, a sound from old homes that shift in the cold weather. The kids have made the move to the backyard and it’s only gotten 5° warmer. They don’t care. Kids usually don’t. They dig deep within themselves to create warmth because the magic of staying out in the open space is worth the red nose. Meanwhile I’m at the door with my tea, dwelling in the gratitude of being with them everyday. I’ll lure them back in with a hot cup of something sweet, we have our morning reading. As you might’ve seen I’ve been doing up parts of my flat over the last few months. I finished my kitchen at the end of last year and this year remodelled my bathrooms. I’ve absolutely loved the process of doing it, even if it has meant spending every night falling asleep scrolling on Pinterest. I was recently asked to judge an interior design competition all about kitchens - which was so much fun to do!! There were so many categories and different styles coming through - you can see how they vary in styles from more traditional to more modern. We would like to wish every restaurant and pub all the best with their reopenings tomorrow, as well as those who, with the uttermost respect, decided not to reopen. It has been the hardest month I’ve ever endured since we opened @meimeilondon, even on a limited menu / capacity. We’ve loved seeing our regulars, old faces and new ones, but the fact is we aren’t out of the dark period yet and I’m honestly scared how much busier London gets and whether this would cause another lockdown, because it was devastating to us the first time. Please have respect for the hospitality staff, please don’t leave your used tissues/waste on our counters, or ask to use our kitchen bin. Hold onto your rubbish and throw it away yourself responsibly. The @boroughmarket bin is less than 15 meters away. Please don’t hassle my staff for alcohol without food purchases, or give them grief for not serving the one thing you were after, because funnily enough all our food, despite taking minutes to put together...takes hours or days to prepare. Please have respect for our cleaners in the market or our security team who do an incredible and difficult job of managing crowds, but most of all. Please respect. Each. Other. We all need space and time to heal from this crisis but want to enjoy our freedom and independence safely. Our new updated kitchen!!! [ swipe left for before and after // see process + videos in highlights! ] I’ve been struggling with styling this house since we moved in back in 2016. I will admit I get caught up in some trends and trying to achieve one of my favorite designers @sarahshermansamuel L.A. kitchen [ she’s amazing at what she does and just an awesome person all around! ] I struggle with creating/being original and settle for replicating..could have a little to do with me having what my husband calls imposter syndrome lol I sometimes feel like what I do isn’t good enough or that great and of course that anyone can do it. But it’s something I try to work on 🙏 I’ve been going back to my color palette roots with my personal and interior style [black, white, gray and tan] Now making sure there’s not too much of one thing and balancing those colors out is HARD, but it’s what I believe to be the key to keeping everything cohesive. So here’s my mind process with this kitchen...:::okay so we’re keeping the walls crisp white and the original, orange hardwoods so white and extreme tans are out so what other colors can I use? 🤨 ooo what about different shhhhades?! 😃Now how can I make this place feel homey and warm while keeping it minimal and modern? How do I coordinate my style/Charleston’s historic home style/a future buyers style on top of making sure it works with our day-to-day LIFEstyle (rugs just don’t work for us 🐕🐕👠👞👢🥿,etc)... Hmmm, okay brains struggling a bit, let’s try Pinterest because if I don’t see exact inspiration of what looks like my current situation and what I think I want to change, I won’t even know how to attempt to create something off the cusp!:: I’m explaining all this because I don’t want it to seem like this was an easy fix-designing/styling is actually not my forte 😂 [ and that’s why professionals are hired. I had this moment last week where I truly understood the power compliments can have over you and why its never ok to compliment someones weight loss. Over the last year Ive been able to truly find food freedom and ditch diet culture and its been life changing. Throughout this process my body weight has stabilized. This was not the goal and should NOT be the goal but is simply what I experienced. I didnt really notice my weight loss until I was complimented for it on multiple occasions. I found that these compliments triggered me in a way that made me need to change the subject (an important boundary). I was nervous that I would take this compliment and fall back into the place where my self worth was associated with how I look. Then, not even 5 days later I received a compliment along the lines of Nicole, youre genuinely one of the most happy and positive people I know and I love it. This made me feel so amazing and reminded me that I am worth so much more than my weight and appearance. This experience reminded me exactly why you should NEVER compliment someone on their weight loss. Instead try some of the examples below. I assure you it will leave a much better impact. - I appreciate you - You are one of the kindest people I know - You are such an amazing friend, thanks for being there for me - I am proud of you - Your happiness is contagious So my challenge to you is to compliment someone today (or tomorrow) on something that has nothing to do with their weight or health. The tutorial for this mega desk is DONE and up on my blog! I’ve gotten so many questions about it and how the studio is shaping up. I’m slowly making progress on details of this space but having the table finished has been a game changer for my work and a surprise gathering spot for our family. Here we can pull up a stool and online-school alongside work alongside snacks and chats throughout the day and it’s pretty rad. I love having the storage and space to spread out painting and drying, pack multiple boxes and not even spill my coffee;-) . Dear @jntexpressid sudah 5 bulan aku menghabiskan waktu di rumah saja karena rsgm tempat aku menyelesaikan pendidikan drg diliburkan. Untuk mengisi hari hari di rumah agar tidak makan, tidur dan nonton drama korea saja, aku memutuskan untuk membuka online shop ( @gekies.id ) yang berjualan barang-barang ramah lingkungan. Ditengah-tengah menjalankan aktivitas berjualan aku menemukan satu kendala, yaituu memori hp yang terlalu kecil sehingga tidak bisa menginstall sosial media serta ecommerce, dan kadang-kadang tidak bisa melakukan foto/video produk karena memori sudah penuh oleh aplikasi chating yang juga sebagai jalan komunikasi perkuliahan jarak jauh. Alasan kedua aku membuka onlineshop juga agar mendapat uang jajan tambahan dan belajar menghasilkan uang sendiri agar kedepannya bisa mandiri secara finansial. Buat ganti hp, uang tabungan belum cukup, minta ganti hp ke orangtua harus berpikir 2 kali, karena bulan depan juga harus bayar uang kuliah ditambah selama pandemi semua sektor ekonomi mengalami penurunan. Bisakah @jntexpressid mewujudkan mimpi aku untuk mendaptkan hp dengan memori kapasitas 256GB dan kamera bagus seperti iphone 11/11 pro max ? aku yakin kedepannya bisa memaksimalkan aktivitas onlineshop dengan menginstall social media, ecommerce dan foto produk dengan kualitas yang bagus di 1 gadget serta perkuliahan jarak jauh juga tidak terhambat.
