My baby girls first Christmas! It was definitely one to remember. Her favorite gift was her blocks! Also, a little update since I have been horrible at posting her monthly updates lately (shes was 9 months on the 13th), but Sophia now says Momma, DaDa, and a lot of other words lol shes trying to stand but hers a big girl and its a little hard! Lui è il mio amico @carmelo_isgro Carmelo non è una persona ordinaria, non riesce mai a stare fermo e quando si mette in testa una cosa praticamente non c’è niente che possa fermarlo. Per darvi un’idea del suo potenziale vi dico che quattro anni fa un capodoglio si è spiaggiato a Capo Milazzo, era morto a causa di una rete illegale aggrovigliata alla pinna caudale e aveva diversi oggetti di plastica nello stomaco. Quella morte per Carmelo non doveva essere vana quindi decise di passare le successive due settimane a scarnificare l’animale per recuperarne le ossa. La sua idea era quella di ricreare lo scheletro dell’animale ed esporlo in un museo dedicato al mare che avrebbe creato nella sua città. Molti gli hanno dato del pazzo visionario ma la storia vuole che poco più di un anno dopo il @muma_milazzo non solo sia diventato realtà ma, grazie al contributo di tantissime persone che hanno messo a disposizione il loro talento, è diventato a mio parere uno dei musei dedicati al mare più belli mai creati. Quindi potete immaginare quanto io sia felice di fare proprio qui la seconda presentazione del mio libro, sotto lo sguardo del capodoglio Siso simbolo di quanto l’uomo può togliere ma anche dare indietro alla natura. Visto che Carmelo veramente non sa stare fermo, il giorno della presentazione, l’11 settembre, ha deciso di fare la traversata a nuoto dello stretto di Messina senza maschera e pinne ma trainando un bel mucchio di plastica. Earlier today, I spoke at the Forbes Small Business Summit – virtually of course – about how vital digital technology has been for small businesses everywhere during the pandemic. With fewer customers walking into stores and restaurants, business owners have had to find new ways to reach people and sell online. In particular, I talked about how personalized advertising has been a lifeline for many small businesses. Big companies can afford broad mass marketing campaigns, but most independent stores or family restaurants can’t. They need to reach people who are interested in what they offer in ways that are easy and affordable. Personalized ads allow them to do just that while protecting people’s privacy. @borderxbrewing – a Latino-owned micro-brewery and bar – run by David and Carmen Favela in San Diego, California offers a powerful example. Like a lot of small business owners, they closed temporarily in March and have reopened since with restrictions to protect safety. They set up online ordering and delivery and used Facebook and Instagram to reach people. In June, they started running personalized ads to share information about changing hours and the products they had available. They targeted a limited audience of people they thought would be interested – just followers and their friends – and it worked. They were able to operate at a safe capacity in July and August. In fact, the ads were so successful they had to stop running them because they can only seat 50 safely and they didn’t want a big line outside the bar. Businesses like David and Carmen’s don’t have the option of running expensive ad campaigns on TV or radio. If they can’t reach customers in person, they don’t really have other options. It’s never too early to start unconditionally loving ourselves. Love is an omnipresent frequency available to us all. It is the stuff that this awe-inspiring infinite universe is made up of that I will humbly never fully understand. You can love yourself today just as you are... as you will always be a beautiful work in progress moving towards greater degrees of compassion, gratitude, and love. If we limit our love frequency to specific benchmarks in life we are missing the point completely!! There is no where to arrive to, except for this everlasting present moment. I used to be my worst enemy— beating myself up when I didn’t wake up at 6:00 am or get my workout in that day... however my misguided perspectives have grossly shifted for the better. These actions, for me, are the result of loving myself.. they do not dictate whether I am worthy of it. You don’t work out to love yourself.. you workout because you love yourself so much and it is simply a tangible manifestation. Anyhow, just random thoughts and rambles. I haven’t updated on Instagram in a while... mostly because the shop (while still & fortunately working), has been in mourning for the recent passing of one of its foundation blocks... my lovely bride of 20 yrs, mother of our two children: Dante 14, and Giovanna 9, and our “VP in charge of stuff”, has passed away on this past Aug 9th. She was a force to be reckoned with and fought a hard battle with her cancer since her being diagnosed this past January. Dena Calabrese was our rock... as partner in our studio, she was involved in every aspect, but loved when we would work on a project that involved fabrics... as a graduate and alumni of Fashion Institute of Technology, she excelled in bringing our clients needs to life. Today she is sorely missed, but her smile, laugh and love will never be forgotten, as she leaves behind a legacy of extending herself to helping others achieve their dreams and aspirations. From our friends and family to past employees and HS interns She always gave OF herself before giving TO herself. Before her passing we discussed her legacy and decided to create a HS scholarship in her name. I realized last night that it was five months ago my friend Saul got back from a trip to new york as the world was locking down. We decided to stick together for what we thought were two weeks of quarantine. It seemed like a fun experiment at the time. We made a spreadsheet for friends to join so we could all track when we passed the “two week” mark to hang out together again. Over 150 days later and i couldn’t haven’t done it without this sweet, kind, funny, caring man. He helped me go and save Franny from a life in a trash-filled driveway in the desert. We cooked about 1849484 meals together, mostly enchiladas and pasta. We drank approximately one million bottles of wine. He lifted me up when I was down and I did the same for him. If franny and i were bored of the same walk for the millionth time or feeling depressed we would show up at his house much earlier than he wanted 😇 with coffee and pain au raisin (thank you @clarkstreetbread for being open!!). “These times” sure have taught me a lot, but nothing more than what friendship means to me and @champagnesauly you are the absolute best friend a girl and her little dog (who loves you like no one else) could ever ask for.
