How do I look? Does it matter? . . I wish it didnt. Recently, in my dermatology clinic Ive had patients coming in with complications from using products trying to change their appearance. One lady wanted to lighten her skin and used a product which caused a severe rash and left her with patchy pigmentation. Another with problems following using a tattoo type treatment. . . My patients tell me they wish they were lighter/ darker/ less hair/ less redness etc etc. Its mostly women but men have these issues too. . . I help where I can, but the solution is wider? Why is society so hung up on appearance? Im guilty of it too and try and post pictures where I look half decent. When younger I also wanted to fix so many things about my looks and I usually wear make up when out to hide flaws. . . Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. What can you do to preserve the gut health of your children... and yourself? 🗣 Make it understood that you prefer to avoid antibiotics and why (preserve the microbiome + prevent future disease) 🗣 If antibiotics are suggested see if it is appropriate to try anything else before starting antibiotics 🗣 If you do start antibiotics, start probiotics and fermented foods. #gutlove protect your (and your kid’s)gut - @gut_love on Instagram

So if you hear anything about “moving forward” and “re-opening the country” please know that should ALL be viewed as placebo bc no one can truly say what will happen (regardless of press briefings, modelings, and random articles on FB). We use stats to give our best answer. WORK FROM HOME STYLE LEARNINGS _ I worked in corporate settings for most of my career so when I started my own business it was a journey to learn what I really loved for a work from home style. Here are a few of my learnings: 1. I GET DRESSED...EVERYDAY. Did I work in sweatpants or PJs at first? Absolutely- who doesnt?! and I must say it was quite cozy... But I very early on realized that style was not one that I wanted to keep up with-- not only did I FEEL lazy, unproductive but I noticed that it effected my work too. 👇🏽 2. GETTING READY IS MY ME TIME. One ritual that I love every morning, is the act of getting ready for the day. It usually starts after a great workout and I truly enjoy planning how Im going to show up for myself and others in the day. Because I LOVE everything in my closet, putting together an outfit is a breeze and stress free. 👇🏽 3. ITS ALL ABOUT LOW MAINTENANCE, BUT NOT LOOKING LIKE IT. Like a lot of my clients, I want to be able to throw on a stylish, but comfortable outfit and go. I hate the idea of spending time in front of my closet trying to figure out what Im going to wear. Curiosity = Soft Skill... let me explain. - My favorite part of working as a therapist was the initial intake interview l because I got to ask loads of questions and was curious to learn someone’s life story. - My favorite part of qualitative research is interviewing users because I get to engage with people in inquisitive conversation. Through an interviewing exercise you get to show your genuine curiosity about your users, ultimately becoming closer to them. - We talk about how having “soft skills” in UX is extremely important, and I think _CURIOSITY_ is a soft skill of user interviewing that we should include. A good therapist is genuinely curious about the minutia of their patients’ day-to-day lives, and seeks to understand their patients’ thoughts and behaviors through thoughtful questioning. - As user researchers, we can implement this curiosity model to our own approach of interviewing users. This looks like: taking the time to ask a few “warmup” questions about their week/day, asking lots + lots of relevant follow up questions to their responses, and asking for clarification when the response was unclear. - Try to make a user interview feel like a fun conversation and be genuinely curious. You’ll get more natural responses from users, and you might find yourself enjoying the work more so in the process. . Most have an Illness, you’re not ALONE. . . . Here I had lost 14lbs. unintentionally within a week. My world had drastically changed with one diagnosis, Colitis, a form of IBS. I no longer could enjoy the foods I loved with family and friends, feared eating because of the debilitating pain and always slightly embarrassingly had to know where the nearest bathroom was. . .After many tests I had to make a decision either live on a liquid diet, depend on meds for the rest of my life or take this illness by the horns and change my whole diet around. Although difficult and misery was a constant company, I chose the latter happily, because at least I had options. . .I became a vegan and ate gluten free up until I felt my body strong enough to reintegrate foods I used to consume. Keeping in mind, Everything in Moderation. My diet now is pretty close to my normal, flare ups are rare but in no way is this battle over. . . I know this won’t get Cambridge to change their decision but I want to share my thoughts with all of you since Cambridge is now screwing over students’ future. I’m a second year university student, I did my A’levels from @cedarcollege and passed with flying colours Alhumdullilah! Your CAIE Results do play a role in deciding your future. Since many of you are not satisfied with your results and I know those students who legit worked really hard for their grades, even during this global pandemic without giving up, ended up with PATHETIC grades. What if we talk about those students who can’t afford to repeat A’levels? What if we talk about those students whose family is really strict and now they are not supporting them? What if we talk about those students who were not able to meet their grade requirements of universities? Which is now going to result in a gap year? What if we talk about those students who compromised their sleep and social life just to get a presentable grade? What if we talk about those students whose family was diagnosed with corona but they still managed to study? HI GUYS!!! Hello everyone! I’m very new to Instagram, so I thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Zarrin, I’m a Cardiologist, a working mum and a Lifestyle Medicine convert! I qualified as a doctor in 2001 and have worked in the NHS for over 18 years. My journey has had twists and turns and has been far from conventional taking me all around the UK to places including Nottingham, Cardiff, London and Liverpool. After struggling with my own health problems a few years ago, I got first-hand experience of the power of lifestyle changes to help disease. I then noticed that over my 18 years of working, my patients were getting younger and sicker. I noticed that whilst we were stopping people from dying from heart disease extremely well, we weren’t reducing the morbidity associated with it. I strongly believe that our busy, modern lifestyles are to blame. We are more sedentary, more stressed, more sleep deprived, and this often leads to poor food choices. A part of the YourGrocer team for three and a half years now, Trace is one of our experts. I love making our customers lives easier - its so enjoyable to chat with our customers and help save them a trip to the shops. Helping people receive groceries during such a difficult time has been so rewarding. Speaking of the lockdown, Trace has had her handsful with a 2.5 and a 5-year-old, its been challenging to say the least, however, I feel so lucky to have a job that I love. Ive just recently knitted one row of a woolen scarf... it should be finished 2 years from now. 😅 And, please give Trace some love for this picture! OMG if you knew what went into this photo... Team Spotlight-Track & Field: Senior Autumn Ellis: Autumn moved to Lincoln City in middle school. She has been at Taft since 7th grade and was a four sport athlete this year. She started out playing soccer and cross country. Placing fifth in districts for cross country, Autumn was the first girl to go to state for Taft in a decade. Autumn set the school record for the 2 mile race. In the winter Autumn received a second team All League award for basketball and this spring she was looking forward to breaking records on the track. Das Thema Sportförderung ist ja wieder in aller Munde. Beim Termin habe ich wieder gemerkt, dass vor allem auf Geldgeber Seite alle die gleiche Herausforderung haben: kriegt einer, wollen alle. Die Geldgeber (Sponsoren, wie der Bund/Sporthilfe) geraten in eine Rechtfertigungsschleife. Wieso kriegt der, aber ich nicht? Wo zieht man die Grenze? wie kann eine Sportförderung aussehen, die ALLEN die gleichen Chancen bietet? Genau deswegen bauen wir mit fairplaid Crowdfunding eine Infrastruktur auf, die dem Gesetz der Neutralität unterliegt. Bei uns ist es unerheblich, aus welcher Sportart, welcher Liga, welchem Ort oder von welchem Geschlecht das Projekt kommt. Denn: einzig das Engagement des Athleten, der über seine fairplaid-Kampagne Unterstützer für seinen Sport und sein Projekt gewinnt, entscheidet. und die Bereitschaft der Gesellschaft, das Projekt umgesetzt sehen zu wollen. I grew up in a world of strict corporate business, so there was no crossover of professional and personal… Even when I worked in the music industry… a notoriously unprofessional industry lol… I was THE MOST buttoned up, even working in club promotions. Thanks to my class teacher who applauded one of my elocutions in 6th grade, I got the confidence. Something we long for the most especially in our teenage years is - acceptance. To be part of something and not be left out. For a long time I thought I wanted that too, I wanted to be included in things, I wanted to have tons of friends, I wanted to be liked, I wanted to seek validation. But soon I realised that all this came at a cost, atleast for me it meant giving up my individuality and doing things that were socially acceptable. I have been part of groups that have tore me down for everything I am and judged me for superficial aspects such as my looks or my weight. They even went so far as to decide what guy I should like or shouldnt. All this for being accepted? All this to fit in? As years passed and as I met new people I slowly started letting go of the concept of being liked and started figuring out who I was. I was told that I was changing and they were right, I most definitely was. I was finally okay with not being liked, with getting no validation. I was okay with. I was okay with being me. I realised I was settling for mediocre friendships and relationships that were hindering my growth. Post this realisation I did a detox where I let go of every relationship that pulled me down and nurtured the ones that were mutually uplifting. I am now friends with some of the most loving and welcoming people who accept me as I am and give a helping hand instead of criticism when I need them. You should always decide what you are willing to settle for and never settle for anything less! If I had to tell my teenage self one thing it would be to go be the boss lady that she is and stop letting people who are scared of what she is capable of bring her down. 🐢⭐Todays the day guys!! Im currently on the plane about to take-off to the Maldives to start my dream job working with Sea Turtles! Sure, this day was *meant* to be 6 months ago but 2020 has just been that kind of tomfoolery!! I dont like the end-of-an-era concept that much but this move certainly does feel special. Ive never lived overseas before and Ive worked as a small animal veterinarian ever since graduation, so pretty much everything about my whole life is changing and I am 100% here for it!!
