Busy weekend! On Friday I competed in the 5000m track Swiss Championships (old pic as dont have a new one from event...). The pace was extremely slow for the first 3,5km and a bit too fast for me in the last 1,5km which resulted in a 5th place. Then today I raced in the Uster Triathlon where I swam faster than Ruedi Wild (always an internal competition between us since our first race together in 1992😂), won the race and would have gotten third in the mens race, happy with it! I drove directly to Schaffhausen to support the kids who participated in our „Kids Cup by Nicola Spirig“ there, pics in the next post. UPDATE    I have been staying ready all year, constantly progressing and growing since moving teams. So when the call came for Milan, Italy I was ready. Whilst in camp, preparing for my fight I sustained a bad knee injury.    After scans and seeing the specialist it turns out I tore my MCL and ACL completely. I have just come out of surgery from the best doctor / knee specialist in the area Dr Tim Spalding. Today is day one on the road to recovery!    This injury, a slight stumble on my journey will give me a lot of time to work on other areas I previously wouldnt of had time to. I will come back from this a better athlete with an even stronger mindset and focus.    Without the lows of MMA, the highs wouldnt feel so great. Unless you have felt these extreme emotions you will never truly understand why we fight. Were back racing and this is how it feeeeels! 😀 Weve been waiting for months but @superleaguetriathlon gave us the opportunity to race the arena games! I dont plan any of these to happen. God did. But I believe that everything happens for reasons. I believe Gods good. He still gives me a chance to keep my left ovary and my uterus, which means Im still able to carry lil human inside my body. Well, at least thats what Im hoping in the future. The cancers still in borderline stage or lets say its stage 1A. See? Gods good! Most of OVCA patients got diagnosed on advanced stage, but Im still on an early stage! Alhamdulillah. Thank GOD! Im having my chemotherapy now. Ive had 3 rounds of chemo. Yay! 3 rounds to go and I hope everything will come out clean🤞🏻. I miss being the real me. The Daytona that everyone knows has long thick hair, thick brows, annoying laughs, creepy but cherish smile. Chemotherapy changes me a lot! Not only the appearance, but also Ive been having mood swings everytime I have the treatment. Well it doesnt stay that long, only two weeks after the treatment. Which means I have 1 week to have a normal mood before the next round of chemo, lol. Still, Alhamdulillah. . . Im bald. Ive lost my hair. I even can count how many hair left on my eyebrows, lol. My faces pale. My skin looks a bit tanner than the usual. My skin is dry. My lips are chapped. I lose appetite. I lose the will to live sometimes. But I always remember that I have those goals that I still havent achieved, yet I promised myself that I have to, thats the reason why Im still hanging in here. . . I knew stepping back onto the track would be a challenge, a challenge that I am still stoked to take on again soon. What I didn’t anticipate was how tough it would be just under a mile in. ⁣ ⁣ After a tough close to my collegiate track career in the spring of 2018 I knew I needed to go get some blood work done. At the time anything at or under 5k pace was tough to hit and maintain over a mile, unfortunately it still applies. My blood test back in 2018 confirmed what my trainers, coaches and I thought. I was dealing with a form of anemia; something that I have now been dealing with for the better part of two years, and a blood test the week after @runmcdc confirmed that it’s still something I need go straighten out if I want to maximize my potential in this sport. ⁣ ⁣ Since moving to Colorado I credited going anaerobic in workouts to being up at altitude and not the root of the problem. I unfortunately had similar blood levels before the Olympic Trials, during the summer of 2019, and even prior to my marathon debut in December of 2018. Marathon specific work and threshold work did and still does come effortlessly even at altitude. It’s when I press below that pace I start to feel the effects of my low red blood cell count. My first two cracks at the marathon have been a 2:16:10 PR and a 61st place finish at the Olympic Marathon Trials, I cannot wait to see what’s possible when my numbers get back up.⁣ ⁣ Have only been in Boulder one month but I already have an immense amount of support from my teammates, @tinmancoach, training staff, and mentors to finally put every single piece of the puzzle together. #runwithRivs While I’m out here doing what I love and enjoying every step, one my friends is not doing so well, and I know for a FACT, Tommy would love to be racing side by side with me. His lovely family / friends are hurting but following his journey with hope in all our hearts. While I’ve loved the last few months of training, I’ve never been a few days away from remembering that Tommy is struggling and fighting hard to stay with us. I wish I could speak to him and let him know if I could fight a little for him I would.. I’d take some of the pain and suffering to help his struggle, as I know he’d do the same for me. It’s important, no matter how well things are going, or appear to be. I’ve been a causal runner but my first inspiration to run a marathon came when I found myself at the Brigham witnessing the casualties from the Boston Marathon bombings. I was assisting in the Emergency Department. Just a few weeks later, a beloved patient with cystic fibrosis passed away from a complication. These events left me in shock and, soon thereafter, I started running -- not only to help manage my own mental health but also to honor the victims from that day. Meet Dr. Ahmet Uluer, DO, MPH, Pulmonologist & Director of Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program. While Dr. Uluer will be running the virtual 2020 Boston Marathon with one of his cystic fibrosis patients, he actually inspired 10 patients to run the marathon for the Brigham’s @steppingstrongcenter team and other marathon charity teams. His motivation for running the 2020 Boston Marathon also stems from his desire to support a family member coping with trauma sustained during military service. That desire aligned perfectly with the mission of the Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation. The Brigham Stepping Strong team further spoke to me as my inspiration to run the Boston Marathon in 2020,” said Dr. Uluer. “The Stepping Strong centers mission supports innovation in trauma care. My nephew in-law suffered incredible physical and emotional trauma while serving our country in Afghanistan. My 26.2 miles pales in comparison to his physical sacrifice. While he continues to face difficult treatment options, I can only begin to imagine the strength and resilience needed. Dr. Uluer has been running with one of his patients every weekend prior to the pandemic in preparation for the race. And though it is disappointing to be running virtually and without the cheering crowds to give him the much-needed emotional energy, he can still reflect on the positives of the 2020 event. Back in 2016 I was asked by @goaheadsumi @nowtoronto to participate in their Love Your Body issue which involved an interview (sure, no problem! ) and a photo shoot where I would be completely naked (oh, hmm..sure... GULP!). So naturally the improviser in me said yes! I remember reflecting the morning of shoot saying you dont need to be doing this! But I have to say that even through I was very scared and apprehensive about getting naked in front of a group of people and then essentially having those very pics published in a weekly newspaper I LOVED the experience! The amazing photographer @tanjatiziana did an absolute stellar job of helping me feel relaxed which allowed me to channel my playfulness and have the most fun! It was so freeing and surprising in how quickly it felt normal and natural to be completely naked in front of others. I wasnt self conscious about my naked body. In fact there was a confidence, power and ease in being in that state that Ive never had before. Ive had a lot of low self esteem growing up in regards to my body and how I look. But this experience was so healthy for me and allowed me take another big step in self acceptance and risk taking. In the past few years Ive tried to live more authentically and be more mindful of how I show up in my life and how I see myself. In the inspiring words of the great author and @ted superstar, @brenebrown, that day I chose to dare greatly and have the courage to be fully seen as I dipped my toe (and lets face it, every other body part of me) in the pool of vulnerability for which Im so thankful. Some of you may or may not know In 2012 I was involved in a major motocycle accident that almost ended my life a red P plater drunk and high on drugs ran a red light coming off a freeway and T boned me my left leg  and other bones were completely crushed and broken Some of the injuries were toes broken shin bone broken in 3 places dislocated hip  pelvis out of alignment femoral shaft (thai bone) broken in 3 places broken wrist and fingers radius (forarm bone) broken elbow dislocated and many others this is just of the top of my head 5 operations later I now have many screws, and pins and rods holding my leg and bones together For almost 2yrs I was unable to walk properly I moved around my house in a office chair and did the baby bum shuffle on the floor lost over 40+ kg went down to 60/70kg looking like skin and bone I got even more depressed looking at myself because of how small I became so I started eating pizza daily KFC and what ever shit food I can find to get my weight back up. Bottom line was even tho I couldnt walk I didnt give up I was in so much pain I was crying on a daily basis pain killers didnt do much After a while I got on the floor and done basic sit ups and pushups what I could do i did even was curling your basic outdoor brick and shoulder pressing bricks just to keep my strength as high as possible and get active again And today after years of hard work and starting again Im squatting 300kg and leg pressing over 700kg and at 130kg in bodyweight NO MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS AT YOU OR WHAT YOU GO THREW IN LIFE YOU NEVER GIVE UP YOU NEVER LOSE HOPE TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS SO KEEP PUSHING FORWARD AS HARD AS YOU CAN AND ALWAYS STAY POSITIVE. . #life #endure #vision #create #grow #inspire #happiness #feel #grow #love #imagine #dream #plan #mentality #drive #ambition #awareeness #mindfull #mind #body #soul #power #focus #determination #encourage - @chriskavvalos_ on Instagram

Kevin Walters Appointed Brisbane Broncos Coach The Brisbane Broncos have confirmed Kevin Walters as the Club’s Head Coach for the next two years. Walters, a former Broncos Captain and five-time Premiership winner with the Club, will start in the role in coming weeks as preparations ramp up for the 2021 preseason. The 52-year-old, born in Rockhampton, has signed a two-year contract through to the end of the 2022 season. Walters returns to the Broncos having been Queensland State of Origin Coach for the past four series. Prior to that he had been an Assistant Coach with the Broncos and Melbourne Storm, as well Coach of the Toowoomba Clydesdales and Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup, and two seasons as Head Coach of Catalans Dragons in the English Super League. Walters, one of the first players ever to be inducted in the Broncos Hall Of Fame, said he was thrilled to be given the opportunity as Head Coach. “I love the Brisbane Broncos – this Club is part of who I am and it feels like I am coming home’” said Walters. “I’ve put in a lot of work over the past 15 years to learn and gain the experience that’s required to succeed in this role, so I feel that I’m ready. 4° DE ESPAÑA DE TRIATLÓN DE MEDIA DISTANCIA 🙌⚡ Muy contenta con mi debút en Medio Ironman (con mucho respeto a la distancia por la falta de experiencia y kms) , disfrutando muchísimo, especialmente del circuito de bici y el público, espectacular😍 Eso sí, este dolor de piernas no sé si lo he sentido alguna vez 😂 Lo que no he competido en todo el año, lo he competido en un mes, haciendo el triplete: Cpto España Sprint, Olímpico y Media Distancia. Al primero llegué Con lo puesto porque pensaba que no se iba a competir, al segundo mucho más motivada con dos semanas de específico y al tercero aprovechando para meter rutas y rodajes más largos en dos semanas y media. No me puedo quejar 😊 Enhorabuena al Triatlón Bilbao y a @triatlonsp por hacernos disfrutar de lo que tanto nos gusta con una organización de 10, y más sabiendo lo que cuesta organizar una competición de este calibre en los momentos que estamos ahora, gracias!!!
