Sneak Peek @fearofgod exclusively for Ermenegildo @zegnaofficial Collection for ODDA 19. The cross-pollination between designers Alessandro Sartori (@alessandrosartoriofficial ) and Jerry Lorenzo (@jerrylorenzo), the driving forces behind the men’s wear brands Ermenegildo Zegna (@zegnaofficial) and Fear of God (@fearofgod), respectively, can be seen in all its glory in the capsule collection the two houses have created together. In ODDA 19, as part of Fashion360, the duo unpacks how their sartorial dialogue is a clear reflection on the evolution of men’s wear today. “The message here is modernity. We want to be there just a minute before our customers. We think the blend of pieces and new garments conveys the message.” -Explains Sartori the ideas and messages behind the collection. “There are a lot of people in the world that are gifted and talented. It is hard to find people that are as humble as they are gifted and that’s what I liked most about him.” -Reflects Lorenzo on his admiration for Sartori and what drew him to work together. The full project includes video interviews with both designers and will be launched soon as a bridge between print and digital. This moving performance by @coastalwolfs, in dialogue with Diamond Point’s banners that run along the Main Mall at UBC, was part of the physically distanced outdoor opening of the @belkinartgallery new exhibition “Soundings: An Exhibition in Five Parts”.  The exhibition features newly commissioned scores, performances, videos, sculptures and sound by Indigenous and other artists who respond to this question. Unfolding in a sequence of five parts, the scores take the form of beadwork, videos, objects, graphic notation, historical belongings and written instructions. During the exhibition, these scores are activated at specific moments by musicians, dancers, performers and members of the public, gradually filling the gallery and surrounding public spaces with sound and action. Curated by Candice Hopkins and Dylan Robinson, Soundings is cumulative, limning an ever-changing community of artworks, shared experience and engagement. Shifting and evolving, it gains new artists and players in each location. For this iteration on Musqueam territory, the Belkin has collaborated with UBC’s Musqueam Language Program in partnership with the Musqueam Indian Band Language and Culture Department;  School of Music; Chan Centre for Performing Arts; First Nations House of Learning and Museum of Anthropology to support the production of new artworks and performances by local artists. At the core of the exhibition is a grounding in concepts of Indigenous land and territory. To move beyond the mere acknowledgement of land and territory here means offering instructions for sensing and listening to Indigenous histories that trouble the colonial imaginary. Soundings activates and asserts Indigenous resurgence through the actions these artworks call forth and includes work by Raven Chacon and Cristóbal Martínez, Sebastian De Line, Camille Georgeson-Usher, Maggie Groat, Kite, Germaine Koh, Cheryl L’Hirondelle, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Peter Morin, Ogimaa Mikana, Diamond Point, Lisa C. Ravensbergen, Heidi Aklaseaq Senungetuk, Greg Staats, Olivia Whetung and Tania Willard. - @racheltophamphotography on Instagram

Gov Jared Polis and his administration missed the SB 19-096 July deadline, which prompted WildEarth Guardians to file a lawsuit on July 11 against the state to keep Colorado on track. This bill was crucial in legally committing the state to confront the climate crisis. This lawsuit aims to hold Colorado accountable to those goals. We must continue to be persistent and do our part in holding the Governor accountable. Teenage students from the Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association pose with the cane sticks that they use to practice their combat training and skills. . Huyen langlon is a traditional Meitei martial art form that originated in Manipur as a response to the threat of foreign invasion and even for dealing with internal conflict. A graceful, sophisticated art, despite its vigorous nature, the practice Huyen langlon is an Indian martial art from Manipur. In the Meitei language, huyen means war while langlon or langlong can mean net, knowledge or art. Huyen langlon consists of two main components: thang-ta (armed combat) and sarit sarak (unarmed fighting). The primary weapons of huyen langlon are the thang (sword) and ta (spear). The spear can be used in its non-missile form while in close or thrown from afar. Because of Manipur’s cultural similarity and geographical proximity with Myanmar, huyen langlon is closely related to Burmese bando and banshay. . The thang-ta aspect of huyen langlon can be practiced in three ways: ritual, demonstration, and combat. The first way is related to tantric practices and is entirely ritualistic in nature. The second way consists of a spectacular performance involving sword and spear dances. These routines can be converted into actual fighting practices. The third way is the true combat application. . Thang-ta shares a connection with certain war-dances, often blurring the line between dance and combat forms, such as thangkairol (sword dance) and khosarol (spear dance). Many ritualistic dances in Manipur were traditionally performed by martial artists such as the spear dance for funerals or the sacred thengou dance. The sword movements in dance are meant to either symbolize protection or to ward off evil spirits. . It wasn’t easy filming this production and this next episode into the Jungles of Borneo with a Dayak headhunter tribe is a testament of that. We took wooden long tail boats into the heart of this wild country in search of jungle Mahseer, one he most challenging fish to catch that we’ve ever encountered. . We had a small army of Dayak tribesman assisting us on this exploration and with there help there was nothing in our path that could stop us. Everyday we pushed deeper into what was assumed the impossible and unnavigable by boat. We yanked boats up waterfalls, up rapids and sliced through anything in our path. . We saw the battle remains of dead people. We were attacked by leeches everyday. We experienced horrific flooding and almost lost one of our base camps when the river flooded up 14ft and one night a jungle old growth fell and by some act of god managed to not smash us in the middle of the night. This Sunday there’s nothing but raw adventure coming your way on Animal Planet (10est/9cst/8mst/7pst). #FISHORDIE . . . . #costasunglasses #looptackle #loopaktiv #globalrescue #airflousa #rising3474 #patagonia_flyfish #teamwatermaster #traegergrills #kuiunation #motivfishing #animalplanet #fishing #sharethis #adventure #explore #borneo #flyfishing - @wildmanowens on Instagram

Happy National Daughter’s Day! Skilled in many demanding domestic tasks of their culture, Crow women passed their traditions down from one generation to the next, ensuring the future of their tribe and customs. In this family portrait the distinctive and expressive faces of the grandmother, mother and granddaughter are unique and yet universal. The middle generation carries the weight of responsibility with dignity, the elder, perhaps, now knows joy in understanding the circle of all life. And the adolescent is in that awkward stage we see in many of our own family portraits. Painted against an almost abstract background, there are no landscape or interior details because Terpning’s intent is to focus attention solely on the three women drawing the viewer into their world. Place yourself, paintbrush in hand, in front of a canvas. Who would be looking back at you from the canvas? What emotion would be conveyed? When does it occur? Where does your scene unfold? Why was it important to you to paint that image? @howardterpning #fineart #oilpainting #realism #abstract #threegenerations #nationaldaughtersday #familyportrait #tradition #culture #dignity #grandmother #mother #daughter #granddaughter #circleoflife #whowhatwhenwherewhy @cowboyartistsofamerica @westernartfans @bashasmarkets @ajsfinefoods @foodcityaz @visit_arizona @visitarizona @chandlerlifestyle #chandleraz #thingstodoinchandler - @bashacollection on Instagram

The mysterious Valley and its People! The Niti Valley is situated to the east of the Mana Valley in the hinterland of Joshimath. Niti, located at an elevation of 3,600 m, is the most important village of the valley. To the north of this village is the Niti Pass (5,800 m) leading to southern Tibet. The region receives heavy snowfall. A community living in this regions of India – Tibet border (in Garhwal) is called Rongpa. The community name “Rongpa”, derives from the word Rung, which means valley and Pa means inhabitants. Those living in Chamoli, Uttarakhand are generally referred to as Rongpa. Rongpas of Niti and Mana valleys (Chamoli, Garhwal, Uttarakhand) are also known as Bhotia. Bhot is area of Tibet. Marchha and Tolchha are the two sub-groups of Rongpa community. Traditionally, Rongpas were traders, farmers, weavers, shepherds and herders. Before 1962, when Indo-Tibetan Border got closed , Rongpas used to trade with Tibet through the Mana and Niti passes, which are at an elevation of 5,800m. In trading centres, they bartered their goods for local Tibetan merchandise to be resold in local markets in India. Large numbers of caravans of mules, yaks and sheep were traded. Ghee, Salt, Beans, Potatoes, Peas Gains etc. were other main items for trading. The herders sell wool, meat, and milk to earn a living. The inhabitants of the valley move from their alternative villages to the valley during summer and stay in the valley from April to October. All kind of traditional rituals are performed during this period of stay by the community. It has been denied that Rongpas of Garhwal are people from Tibet migrated to India. Rongpas practice pure Hindu Culture. All Hindu gods and goddesses are worshiped by the community to protect their families and village. The Bhotia speak different dialects in the states they reside in. In Uttarakhand they speak Rongba, Boti in Sikkim, and Kumaoni in Kumaon. Deep in the Urubamba mountain range lies the small town of Maras, home to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The 12th century A.D. saw the birth of the Inca Empire and today we see few remains of their once powerful presence. Over 5,000 salt ponds were built to harvest salt from the Andes, a tradition still kept strong for over 500 years. #southamerica #peru #marasal #pachamama #incasaltco #culture - @redwood.film on Instagram

My name is Sean Snyder, I am Diné & Southern Ute. My pronouns are He/She/They. I am a Two-Spirit and a long time Pow wow dancer. I have grown up within the Pow wow circle, dancing and learning from the womxn in my life. I learned to dance jingle at a young age but never thought I would have the chance to dance for my family in such a public way. I have participated in many switch dance specials through my time as a dancer. I always approach this healing dance with the same respect I give to the womxn that have shaped me and guided me through life. I am so appreciative to showcase my style and my identity as a Two-Spirit person. Grateful to be dance within this circle amongst these womxn. The Jingle dress and Beadwork I am wearing are made with love by my entire family. We all had a hand in putting together this outfit for my little sister @shainasculture grateful to adorn my family designs out in the circle. 💕🏳️‍🌈 Thank you to @john.kassie for illustrating this moment in her powerful Indigenous Womxnhood series. 👩🏽‍🎨 #2spirit #twospirit #nonbinary #nonbinarypride #pride #gaymen #indigenous #nativeamerican #nativepride #equality #gaypride #indigenouspride #lgbtqia #lgbtq #indigenous #powwow #native #handmade #HeritagePiece #ute #diné #navajo #indigenouspeople - @seanqsnyder on Instagram

Part 1: ELLAS ALL AROUND THE PLANET - The “Cree” people. Cree = Crete. Their God is “Ntaou Ze” = “Dias Zeus”. They shout out Dedalo! during dance (Daedalus). Other Native Indian terms include Anasazi (Greek: Anasa Zoi = The breath of life) Navajo (Greek: Navagoi = Sea explorers) and Geronimo (Greek: Iero Onoma = Sacred “Iero” Name “Onoma”). The symbols of the Greek Key (Ellene Maiandros) and OMEGA symbols on their clothing, as well as the pan flute that they play, show the connection they have with the land of Greece, and that they are part of the 13 Ellene phylum (tribes). #greece #nativeamerican #nativeinstruments #cree #indians #ancientgreece #ellas #hellenism #artemissorras #ellinonsyneleysis #ellinon_syneleysis #anthropology #knowledgeispower #tribes #creepeople #pan #panflute #nativeamericans #nativeamerica #nativeamericanpride #hellas #ancienthistory #originoftheworld #indigenous #sovereignty #landrights #nativeindian #indiantribes #nativismo #daedalus - @themis.ioakimidis on Instagram

After college I got the hell out of Brooklyn as quickly as I possibly could and moved back to my hometown. Before I left I had a big garage sale and invited customers/friends to craft my old objects into better ones. Not many people took me up on the crafting besides Janelle of course. She sat on my stoop and hand sewed a Jonas Brothers patch into a tiny tiny purse with a long strap. I loved it so much that she let me keep it. Years latter the purse found its way into this elaborate FEMAIL hat. This hat is full of many other treasures. A bracelet I got as a kid on a trip to Disneyland, a bolo tie from Ella’s admissions day party, cellphone charms Janelle found in a dumpster. The sentimental value on this hat is high so it will probably never sell and i do not mind that one bit. We price all of our goods using the the FEMAIL PRICING FORMULA which helps us consider the emotional labor of making our work, amoung other practical factors like time spent. The formula causes prices to rise when something is made with sentimental materials and I feel great about that because that’s the stuff I generally want to hold on to. This Wednesday 4/29 to celebrate our @cityartssf webcast (which is also on Wednesday tune in please) we are having a Sentimental Sale on our webstore. We will only charge you for the sentimental value of each item. This hat will still be fairly pricey but other items will be extremely affordable some will even be free! “native america” • this photo of a native man was taken on a wknd stroll down Olvera St., at El Pueblo De Los Angeles. • • • There was a tribe in the center of the pueblo performing a traditional dance while playing & singing traditional music. This guy stood out to me bc of his hugely elegant and detailed headdress. There were others, but none nearly as large & extravagant as this one. His face screamed of a muted history and unspoken wisdom. For me, living in different places often provokes the question of how these lands would look if they were never colonized, over populated and industrialized.. The natural world. Could we perhaps be further along as a species? Could we perhaps be more in touch with nature? Could we perhaps be more in touch with ourselves & each other? I have decided to call this series, “walking in two worlds.” These amazing people are first in their cultural regalia and then in street wear. I invite everyone and anyone to participate in their culture. If you are intimidated or unsure how to participate please reach out to someone and just ask. I am only 1/4 Native American and I didn’t grow up consistently participating so when I had a desire to start I was very intimidated. There was so many things I wanted to do but never did because I thought it wasn’t allowed for me. It wasn’t until college that I decided that it’s in my blood and I want to be proud of that. So I started asking for help and guidance on how to respectfully participate. The sense of community has gone a long way for me! So again, I invite you to participate in what ever culture you are apart of! Special thanks to @emmie.edmo for taking these photos at this shoot 🙌🏽 - @adam_conte01 on Instagram

Aborigen. - @tucadenoticias on Instagram

Perhaps the worst kind of fake news is the one that distorts a fact to make it fit a biased view that aims at deviating people’s attention from reality. While it is true that indigenous peoples from the Amazon Forest use fire to clear small patches of forested land and plant in the mineral-rich ashes of organic matter, in a sustainable, rotating system, they also allow that same patch of land to revert back to nature after using it for a few years. And while it is true that some indigenous peoples from the Brazilian savannah (cerrado) use controlled fires for hunting or seedling regeneration, they do so according to their great knowledge of their territory, so as to prevent wild fires from spreading out of control. In sum, to say that indigenous peoples are causing the destructive fires happening now in Brazil, as Jair Bolsonaro has just accused them of doing, is a form of blaming the victim and getting the real culprits off the hook. Most of the extensive fires in the Amazon and the Brazilian Cerrado today are being caused by criminal activity sponsored by land-grabbers and farmers in a systematic attempt to invade territories belonging to indigenous peoples. Marcelo Fortaleza Flores The Boa Foundation supports indigenous peoples in the maintenance of their traditional lifestyles and so has been putting indigenous communities in contact with new technologies and practices which allow them to maintain their original crops and seeds, strengthening local food security and autonomy in spite of climate change and the increased encroachment upon their lands. Chief Raoni Metuktire’s unmistakeable figure, with his large lip plate and bright feather headdress, has graced the television screens of the world for over thirty years as he travels the world in the fight for the rights of indigenous peoples. Born before his people were first contacted by Brazilian indigenous agency officials he remembers a time before metal tools, when they were entirely self-sufficient and self-contained. But he quickly realised that the future for his people, the Mebengokre (or Kayapó), was one of profound change. From that first contact he dedicated his life to fighting to protect his people from the worst impacts of contact with ‘white’ society while negotiating their position in the new, larger world. He soon discovered that the Kayapó were not alone in the fight, and he took on a larger role on behalf of all of the indigenous peoples of Brazil. After the military dictatorship ended he was fundamental in ensuring that indigenous rights were properly recognised and respected in the 1988 Brazilian constitution. But his fight did not end there. He was soon travelling the world, talking to politicians, faith leaders and academics. His message is always clear; we must live in peace, we must respect each other for our differences and our similarities, and we must respect the Earth and its natural environment. Although he is ninety years old he continues to travel, to spread his message, to try to warn the mainstream global culture that it is set on an unsustainable and dangerous trajectory. In February this year he was in the United Kingdom; he is indefatigable. Without doubt he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Please support his nomination. photo: Lilo Clareto/ISA #nobelpeaceprize #chiefraoni #raonimetuktire #amazonpeople #tribesalive #kayapó #indigenouscommunity #indigenouspeople - @rainforestconcern on Instagram

@nemonte.nenquimo is one of @time Magazines 100 Most Influential People of 2020. Last year, the Amazon was better known for acres ablaze than for acres saved. But the lawsuit that Nenquimo, president of the Waorani of Pastaza and a co-founder of the Ceibo Alliance, brought forth was a rare bright spot. The landmark ruling protects the Waoranis ancestral home in Ecuador from immediate destruction. ⠀ ⠀ Regarding her feature, the indigenous activist and mother said, No hay lucha sin el pueblo y el trabajo colectivo. Another Powerful Image from my Session with my Amazing Team. @djaymittens Makeup by: @missfudgethereal @niweacademy Missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada (MMIWG) has been deemed a national crisis. The Sovereign Bodies Institute records 1724 confirmed cases dating back to the 1900s. “Papua New Guinea outrageously culturally wealthy; it is so diverse it is difficult to intellectually comprehend. One ritual that blows my mind is that of the Huli community. As a rite of passage, when a young boy enters manhood, he is taken on a journey out of his community into the deep jungle of 1,5 years. With a group some other young adolescents, they are taught by a shaman to survive and connect with their natural world. Not only do they need to learn how to survive on their own in the jungle, but also they have to grow their hair into a particular sculptural form that represents their connection with their Huli community. Once this is achieved, they are sent back to their village where their hair will ceremonially cut off and made into a sculptured wig. At this moment they successfully become a Huli. However, what is even more profound is that they are then sent off again into the jungle to decorate their wig with their own individuality, but this time alone without the protection of their friends and shaman. When they return, that is where the ceremony is completed; they then spend the rest of their lives as a proud Huli Wigman. Ironically, I lost my hair at the age of 16 during my fragile transition from child- to manhood. This subsequently forced me to push my own boundaries of reconnecting with my individuality and authenticity. An outrageous journey that took me to the limits like nothing before to connect to the naked true me. The essence of being conscious of yourself, feeling, feeling rich. Please let me know, what does wealth means to you?” . Huli Wigmen | Tari | Papua New Guinea, 2017 . 📸 @jimmy.nelson.official - @povosindigenas on Instagram

I get asked about my eagle feathers all the time so here it is! 🦅 My fan was made by Leo Nicotine Jr, a family member of mine, and was gifted to me by my mom @chuckien. The eagle feather I wear on my head was gifted to me by my adopted brother @deevo222 when I entered the Womxns Category (pow-wow). Eagle feathers are hard to come by as we only get them when they fall off the eagle or when an eagle dies (of natural causes). I feel very grateful to be able to carry this spirit with me on my journeys. I take care of it and it takes care of me. 🧡 Thank you @jayrmcdonald for doing such a wonderful job with this shoot! ⭐ - @nikitaelyse on Instagram

I was honored to contribute a piece about @nemonte.nenquimo for @TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. Last year, the Amazon was better known for acres ablaze than for acres saved. But the lawsuit that Nemonte Nenquimo, president of the Waorani of Pastaza and a co-founder of the Ceibo Alliance, brought forth was a rare bright spot. The landmark ruling protects the Waorani’s ancestral home in Ecuador from immediate destruction. The ripples have brought hope to Indigenous communities everywhere, all too often facing overwhelming odds of their own. Nemonte lives her fight, and to have a conversation with her is to witness a rare clarity of purpose. I remember she once told me that she wasn’t going to give up. That she was going to keep fighting. That she would continue to defend the forest that she loves from the industries and the oil companies that would devour it. She has kept her word, and continues to be a voice and advocate for her community. Nemonte’s cause is all our cause. She inspires those she speaks with to shoulder the nearest boulder and walk alongside her as her movement continues to grow. I am lucky to have met her, and I am luckier still to have learned from her. Read more about Nemonte, and see the full 2020 #TIME100 list, at the link in my bio. “The fires, pandemic, and accelerating climate change are a stark reminder that our world is out of balance. Now is the time to unite to protect the Amazon, our planet, and climate for future generations.” National Geographic Explorer and Waorani leader Nemonte Nenquimo (@nemonte.nenquimo) from Ecuador has been globally recognized in this year’s #TIME100, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Nemonte is a prominent Indigenous leader from the Ecuadorian Amazon, who is fighting to protect her ancestral territory, culture, and way of life. Since the onset of the pandemic, Nenquimo has organized independent medical brigades and other relief to Waorani communities infected by the novel coronavirus, as well as united with other Indigenous nations to demand a moratorium on all resource extraction in the Amazon during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most spectacular headdresses amongst all the Naga tribes. Worn by males in a few villages by the Northern Tangkhuls of both India and Myanmar (Burma) is strangely referred locally as the “Lion Headdress”, considering that there are no lions found in the region. Intermarriage still exists between the Northern Tangkhuls of Manipur in India and the Somra Nagas of Burma. The headdress is adorned with hornbill feathers, a brass dish and fringes of human hair. The jaw-piece is made of wood embedded with red and white seeds. . To make this set of images, I had to drive to this very remote border village without a proper road; the drive was all downhill and choosing to make the drive late evening to avoid detection of the local authorities and the security forces. Under normal circumstances I would have needed multiple permissions from them and driving in the dark, I could see not much of the landscape around, with only the headlights followed the illegal logging truck tracks. Finally found the village that had without no electricity and the villagers were shocked and surprised to see me alone with my vehicle, as no outsider in the past had dared to venture to their village before. They gave me food and shelter for the night. I explained to them what I wanted to photograph and with their cooperation next morning, unloaded my generator, lighting equipment and camera gear, all which I carried in my four-wheel drive. And after making the images and saying my thank you’s and goodbyes, the journey to get uphill and back to the Imphal-Jessami-Kohima road was another adventure which is for another time. . Feb. 1995. In Brazil, there is a saying that says: `The last indigenous sigh will be the last for humanity The Kayapó indigenous community currently faces a deadly threat - its elderly, who have the wisdom of resilience, climate adaptation and culture in their communities, are losing their lives due to COVID-19. They need urgent international support for medical supplies. The spread of the human-ignited forest fires is now also greatly damaging the lives of the Kayapo! The magnitude of fires is vast and it is now damaging the respiratory systems of the community and devastating the ecosystem and wildlife. Climate change is not tomorrow. It is the reality of today! We ask that you stand by the Kayapó community and send a clear message of thanks for the service provided to humanity: link in bio to donate ‼️ Their contribution to the protection of the Amazon rainforest, at the service of the whole world, is crucial for humanity to survive the climate and ecological collapse that our Western way of life has brought to our planet. Its ancient culture includes carefully designed dance ceremonies with representative body painting patterns that encapsulate its cosmology. Its territory is part of the Ecotone Ecological Corridor in the South of the Amazon, which houses jaguars and ozelots! In addition to fighting a pandemic, which painfully resembles the way their people were killed by disease during colonization, they are fighting for their rights. Once again, indigenous people are having to mobilize to gather the support and resources they need to survive. The Brazilian governments inability to respect its ancestral cultures shows how the legacy of racism and colonization continues to harm the less represented people in South America and the world today. 450 years of struggle have shown how the resilience and determined spirit of indigenous peoples are fundamental to their ongoing struggle. We are in debt to their integrity, respect and love for their ecosystems and future generations. If we want to learn, it is our time to contribute and stand alongside them now! - @extinctionrebellion on Instagram
