Im Having a Hard Time Profile Pics

8 years ago to the day, I received my diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. As made clear in this picture, I was 138 pounds and looked like I was cast as Skeletor in the live action He-Man Reboot film. Life was hard. I was going through an extremely debilitating depression, every day was a struggle to get out of bed and on top of the mental illness and duress I was fighting, my body was trying to kill me. I was told by my doctors that if I hadnt come into the office and they didnt catch the diagnosis when they did, I would likely have been dead by the end of the next week. Diabetes is an easy disease to poke fun at but it truly is no joke. Although its just become a part of me now and something I rarely think about, living with diabetes is one of the most frustrating and shitty diseases that a person should have to deal with. There are days that I want to rip out my insulin pump and try to live like a normal person, not worrying about what I’m eating, but doing that would result in a truly gruesome and horrific death to diabetic keto acidosis . If youre LUCKY, the first thing that will happen is a brain hemmorage sending you into a coma so you dont have to feel all of your organs systematically shutting down and your body eating and corroding itself away as your blood turns into actual acid. Yet, all of that being said, I am thankful in a way for my diabetes. It has shown me that I am stronger person than I ever knew I was. To date, diabetes has almost killed me three times now yet each time Ive come out on top. When shit gets tough in my life now, I just remember that Ive literally overcome death and anything else is just trivial. I know that Im lucky to still be alive. Ive survived. Others have not been as fortunate. Im proud to carry on in their wake and try to educate others so no one else has to lose their life to this disease.
