Ibland händer det dock att ärenden av något mer ovanlig typ dyker upp. Som igår till exempel, när en något vilsen höna hälsade på hemma hos en av våra kommuninvånare inne i centrala Götene. Men även sådana klurigheter tar sig våra samhällsvägledare an utan att blinka. Hos oss är alla kommuninvånare lika viktiga, oavsett om hen är fågel, fisk eller mittemellan. ‘The Immigrant’ “Never hesitate to go far away, beyond all seas, all frontiers, all countries, all beliefs.” Amin Maalouf. Near the port of Beirut, one can see the prominent bronze statue of a Lebanese immigrant, acknowledging the Lebanese diaspora who left their homeland. The back of the statue faces the city and the figure looks towards Mexico in reference to the thousands who left for the distant country over the last century. Mexico City itself has its own version of Lebanese immigrants. Lebanese-Mexican artist Ramis Barquet designed the statue in 1979 to commemorate the first Lebanese immigrant from the mid-1800s. Lebanese photographer and artist, Maher Attar, turns discarded masks and gloves on the streets of Beirut into visual art. The tapestry is made of iconic portraits and landscapes tiled with hundreds of images of the disposed protective gear. The mosaic is a pop art that tries to raise awareness and respect for the environment. The tiled images are used as building blocks for the final superimposed images. The result is a magnificent series of mosaics of masks and gloves based on photos taken by the artist such as portraits and landscapes. The Beirut-based artist uses his photography as an instrument of environmental awareness. His surreal portraits serve the same purpose. When most people think of the Cortlandt Street stop, they think of WTC Cortlandt, recently reopened in the Oculus. But there is another on the R,W line featuring « Trade Travel and Treasure » a ceramic tile installation by artist Margie Hughto. For this work, Hughto « thought about all the different peoples, products, objects, and money that passed through the area, and... visualized a treasure vault filled with coins, gems and artifacts — rich, golden, glowing, and somewhat mysterious. » These handmade relief tiles are obviously based on the themes of finance and trade, including the Bull and the Bear. Hoy hicimos entrega al Zoológico de las Delicias, Edo Aragua una pareja de Jaguares (Phantera onca) incautados (trafico de fauna silvestre) el 31 de junio en Barinas por equipos de Guardería Ambiental y el Ministerio Público y los cuales fueron entregados para su resguardo al @miecosocialismo en el Parque la Federación de @inparquesoficial Los ejemplares (macho y hembra) pesaron 20 kg y 17,8 kg respectivamente y se encuentran en perfecto estado de salud. Zs adventure in the farm - exploring farm animals through sensory and reading⠀ ⠀ Today I made Z a tuff tray of his favourite book ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ By Julia Donaldson. As you can see from my previous posts, Z loves ladybugs (baby-bugs), so this was the perfect bin for him to learn and explore too. ⠀ ⠀ Why did I choose this book? For a number of reasons actually. Firstly, it involves animals . At his age (18m) kids loves anything to do with animals, making learning the bin more fun. Secondly, the book had a fun rhyming sequence which made Z so engrossed in it. Lastly, I taught Z some basic propositions. Such as Place the cow inside the house, place the cow in front of the house and place the cow next to the house. PART 3 - ‘As the waste crisis narrows and we start to look at our habits and how much waste we are creating, it’s equally as important to start questioning how this waste can actually be reduced and reused responsibly. On average only 30% of plastic bottles are being recycled, with 1.5 billion being used per day. So we find ourselves at a cross roads, and our reduce, reuse, recycle motto may be falling short as 70% of these bottle are being rejected and dumped into yet another overwhelmingly large pile of waste. Out of all the post consumer waste that we might put into our recycling bins including plastic, glass, metal, paper and cartons that “Typically, 50% of what you put in your recycling bin is never recycled. Its sorted and thrown out,” said Tom Szaky, CEO of @terracycle, a recycling company. This is partly due to user error, a common problem which occurs when people place un-recyclable materials into recycling bins. The error of this recycling issue, goes far wider than just plastic, even with the most conscious consumer washing bottles and jars, crushing cartons and breaking down boxes. We might sort these items into their designated bins or bags, but once we lose sight of the recyclables, the rest of the process is an abstraction. With this in mind, and the awareness that plastic is our largest pollutant, the question is; what can we do with this plastic on the other side of it’s intended singular life cycle? And how can we make make it more functional with the knowledge that it has a seriously sturdy and long life span? There are some very clever cookies around the world, entrepreneurs, who are finding all kinds of wonderful ways to turn bottles into construction objects such as fence posts, bricks, flooring, tiles, boats and more. With even complete houses being constructed from the use of plastic bottles.
