And Nana Ruth from “Family Matters” ⁣ I’m know my grandmothers met at various points, but Nana Ruth died when I was 5 or 6 so I have no recollection of any of these encounters, and can’t fathom what these two women made of each other. My mother’s mother, who became GG when her first great grandchild was born, grew up affluent Ohio. Nana Ruth came to this country as an immigrant from Ukraine and remained poor,not speaking particularly great English, for her entire life. The most distinct memory I have of Nana Ruth is her placing me on the bathroom counter, taking out her false teeth, and showing me how she brushed them. GG, on the other hand, is someone I knew well into my adult life, and I didn’t know she wore false teeth until after she died. Her hair, makeup, and nails, were perfectly done at all times.
