❗️Quark vs. Skyr❗️ ✅Vor einigen Jahren war der Magerquark wohl eins der beliebtesten Lebensmittel für Trainierende. Sein hoher Proteingehalt in Kombination mit einer niedrigen Kaloriendichte, machte ihn besonders beliebt. Nun gibt es einen neuen Kandidaten der immer mehr an Beliebtheit gewinnt, die Rede ist von Skyr. Heute wollen wir uns die beiden mal genauer anschauen. 📌 Nährwerte: Der Quark liegt beim Proteingehalt leicht vorne, sonst gleichen sich die Nährwerte extrem. 📌 Herstellung: Beide Produkte basieren auf Milch, die mit Hilfen von Enzymen eingedickt wird, ohne zu sauer zu werden. Zur Herstellung von Magerquark verwendet man Magermilch; zur Herstellung der Halbfett- und Fettstufe könnte man prinzipiell im Fettgehalt eingestellte Milch einsetzen. Heutzutage setzt man fast ausschließlich Magermilch ein und fettet den Quark erst am Ende des Prozesses durch Zugabe von Rahm auf. Skyr wird sehr ähnlich hergestellt, entstand in der Vergangenheit aber aus Schafsmilch, heutzutage setzt man auf Kuhmilch. 📌 Der Geschmack: Skyr ist etwas cremiger und lässt sich deshalb leichter verzehren. Wenn man zum Magerquark einen Schluck Wasser hinzu gibt und diesen verrührt, erhält man allerdings eine sehr ähnliche Konsistenz. Gerade in Zusammenarbeit mit den, heute zahlreich erhältlichen, Flavdrops und Geschmackspulvern, braucht der Quark auch hier keine Angst vor dem „In-Produkt“ Skyr zu haben. 📌 Der Preis: 100g Magerquark kosten ca. 0,15€ und 100g Skyr Natur ca. 0,25€. Ein recht deutlicher Unterschied im Preis, der durch keinen Vorteil für den Nutzer gerechtfertigt erscheint. Natürlich muss hier jeder seine individuelle Kaufentscheidung, nach persönlichem Geschmack, treffen. Fazit: Kein Geschmackswunder, kein Sättigungswunder und schon gar kein Preiswunder. Die Frischkäsezubereitung aus dem Land der Wikinger bietet gegenüber dem Klassiker Quark eigentlich keine Vorteile, belastet den Geldbeutel aber deutlich stärker. (FOX 2) - The US-Canadian border has been closed for almost seven months and the closed border has meant many people have been unable to visit terminally ill patients on the other side of the international boundary. . In early September, we met Marilyn and Norman Hodgkiss who have been fighting to visit their adult daughter before its too late. Diane Costello, 53, is in hospice care for colorectal cancer. . The Hodgkiss family was prevented by Canadian law from crossing the border which was closed in March due to the coronavirus and has been extended very month since. Id just like to be able to physically be with her. Just a couple hours, Marilyn said in early September. After our story with the Livonia family aired, the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) picked up our story. They were hoping for a small miracle. Then it happened - they got a special exception from the Canadian government allowing them to visit their daughter. I cried and cried and cried I was so happy, Marily said. The exemption giving by the Canadian government, allowing Marilyn and Norman to visit the daughter. The smile stayed on her face for the longest time, Marilyn said. Although there is no expiration for the exemption, they were able to spend a week with her. They could only be at hospice and to their granddaughters house, and they had to wear masks. But that was enough. Under the circumstances its sad. Its really sad, Marilyn and Norman both said. Marilyn got choked up describing her daughters condition, leaving it to her granddaughter, Shayla. Shes joking around when she can. Shes still laughing. Were trying to keep the conversation light and just enjoying the time we have left, Shayla said. After our conversation, they made a quick trip to hospice for what could be the last time. Then they came back to Livonia. They are trying to get advocate groups, for compassion for people in this situation like us- from both sides. Thank you Business Insider! Graduating from law school with over $200,000 of student loans, I was honestly terrified. The gravity of it didn’t hit me until after I graduated. ▪️ Once I realized it was “real”, I knew I wanted to pay off the student loans as quickly as possible. I set an action plan to pay them off in 2 years, and had a “check-in” with myself every 2 weeks for those 2 years to make sure I was on track and make adjustments where needed. ▪️ Even though I was fortunate enough to have this job as a corporate lawyer right after graduation, I made sure to never allow that to get to my head to “justify” more expensive purchases or inflate my lifestyle. ▪️ Instead, I just continued to live frugally (the same way I had done out of necessity as a broke law student) and was probably the only one in the entire fancy law firm who was wearing shoes from Walmart to work, haha. ▪️ If you’re reading this and have student loans but don’t have a set date when you know you’re going to pay off your student loans, that means you’re letting your student loans run you (and not the other way around). Over the moon that my portrait of my dearest friend and ex colleague Gimba was selected for the @nationalportraitgallery and @kensingtonroyal #holdstill2020 exhibition. Gimba is a great woman. She’s smart, caring and has the kindest heart. She moved from Nigeria to the UK and has been working for the NHS for over 10 years as a ward host. On April 8th, during the peak of the pandemic, Gimba found out that her mum fell ill and was rushed to a hospital back home. She was heartbroken, and we all insisted that she takes a day off. Eu imagino que todos já saibam que estamos vivendo um caos na saúde mundial, mas acho que nem todos sabem como está sendo o trabalho de quem está todos os dias em hospitais, enquanto a população está em casa (muitas vezes entediada). Além de ser ginecologista e obstetra, eu trabalho na emergência clínica há 4 anos. Sempre atendi pacientes com as mais diversas doenças e gravidades: infarto, AVC, broncoespasmo, pneumonia, insuficiência renal, insuficiência cardíaca, câncer avançado, sepses de diversos focos, doenças neurológicas, degenerativas, entre outras várias. Agora, além disso, eu tenho atendido muitos casos de pacientes com COVID-19 diariamente, na “linha de frente”, como dizem. Do mais leve, que pode ser tratado em casa, ao mais grave, tendo que ser entubado imediatamente na sala de emergência para não morrer com fadiga e falta de ar. É uma luta o tempo todo para que os pacientes não morram e outra luta maior ainda para que eu não me contamine. A minha exposição ao vírus é surreal. Dia e noite examinando e fazendo procedimentos em pacientes contaminados e muito doentes. Eu tento me proteger com roupas específicas e medidas de higiene frequentes, mas não tem como ter certeza de uma barreira realmente eficaz contra o vírus. A minha única alternativa é rezar para que meu corpo não desenvolva a doença mesmo em contato direto com o vírus. Além disso, o ambiente de trabalho virou uma guerra até mesmo entre os funcionários do hospital. Todo dia tem algum desentendimento entre as pessoas que estão trabalhando, o stress está tomando conta de todos. A enfermagem pedindo uma monte de coisa aos médicos, os médicos pedindo um monte de coisa para a enfermagem, disputa por equipamentos escassos de proteção pessoal, disputa por materiais, farmácia que tem burocracia para liberar medicamentos, laboratório que tem uma burocracia para fazer exames. As a kid, I was scared of rats and needles. As a teen, I conquered my fear of needles by having tattoos and piercings, but still afraid of rats. As a grown man, Im scared of seeing my wife angry/crying, rats and that Im still scared of unwanted needles. Getting blood samples, dextrose, and rapid tests; Because its different from having tattoos or nipple rings. But for my family and for my co-workers safety, I dont mind frequent rapid tests. Its my fifth time this month, and Ill be having it again in three days for another project. Been late to update (been waiting till the right time to protect our brave allies). This is from 4th of July (but in the works since even earlier—back in March)! a couple months ago, our networks of nurses and doctors were being walked out in handcuffs for passing out PPE so we had to start an underground bottom-top network (the real roots of PPEforHCP) of free donations that even included the US Veterans Affairs. A few of us on OSCMS spun off a Signals group to design (medical) protective equipment for peaceful protesters (inspired by Hong Kong) as soon as June 1; this was to keep our community healthy/reduce hospital resource impacting (on the bigger scope/support freedom, liberty, and justice). We couldn’t do it without your support, the support of a few brave individuals going against the grain (sacrificing the REAL threat of getting fired for not “staying in their lane” or often worse) in US Customs, UPS, SJPD, hospitals, FEMA, fire department, Hong Kong/mainlanders, etc. Advocates for health and good doctors/nurses and frontlines come from all sides. CATARACTS According to the @who, cataracts are responsible for more than 50% of the worlds’ blindness. Although cataract surgery is one of the most cost-effective sight restoring interventions, people remain blind mainly (and sadly) due to a lack of access to eye care or inability to afford surgery ☹️ In developed countries, vision impairment due to cataract is 5% but in low-income, developing countries and remote areas, this figure skyrockets up to over 50% 💔 Here on the island, cataract surgery is widely available at no cost to local patients but fear of surgery remains one of the huge barriers to patients seeking care earlier. My colleagues and I frequently encounter mature white, brunescent and black cataracts, and our lists tend to be a mixed bag of ECCE/SICS (where the lens has to be manually expressed out through a larger corneal wound) and phacoemulsication. Unfortunately, with the current pandemic, patients’ sight restoring surgeries have been delayed and we’re still working through the backlog. We’re getting there 💪🏻 Please bring your loved ones to your community eye clinic or optometrists for a check up! In my experience, the elderly population here tends to suffer in silence far longer than they have to and when I see them in clinic, their cataracts have reached a stage where they can barely see. Sight matters ❤️ (And I would really love an operating list where I can actually see the red reflex.
