Over the years I have been so grateful to my body for helping me achieve many things, however by far the best accomplishments ever are my children. As a runner, I know my body well and sensed that something special was happening before any test could tell. Nothing can top the love a Mother feels, and that begins even before we can hold or see the baby. Motherhood changes and enhances everything. Long before I dreamed of athletic goals, I dreamt of being a Mother. It is by far my most important role and will always be. Nothing comes before them and I will always fight hard for their wellbeing and to ensure they grow up loved and supported into the best human beings they can possibly be. Raph thinks that mum’s have (M)agical powers; we can find things when they lose them, fix things, comfort and sense when they are not feeling right or most (M)agical of all, we know when they have been up to Mischief! In truth, it is the honour of being a Mum that is truly (M)agical and gives us the strength to do more and be better - for them. The power and strength of the love and pride you feel as a Mother is (M)agical. Isla pretends to be too grown up for Magic, but in truth needs a (M)agical Mum more than ever and my life goal is to always be the best Mum I can possibly be for both of them. I am so happy that Nike are recognizing Mums in this way and doing everything to support athletes’ Motherhood journeys. I think being able to run each day helps me to be a nicer person and a better mum. Certainly being able to run through my pregnancy helped me stay mentally and physically healthy throughout and helped us all cope with the birth better. This is Ernest. He’s a four-time World Champion in the Footprint-Following Games, which are held yearly in the Czech Republic. Basically it is exactly what you’d expect. The contestants line up and see who can follow the most footprints. There are shoes, bare feet, and also various animals. The winning prize is that you are allowed to leave with your life. So that means that Ernest practices constantly year-round, because if he doesn’t win his FIFTH world championship, it will be his last. Ernest is always enlisting me to help set up challenging footprints for him to practice with. And to be honest, it’s kind of a drag. He’s not that fun to be around because all he cares about is footprints. I mean he’s a nice guy in those rare moments that he takes a break from the footprints and asks about my day. But if he doesn’t win next year…I will be kind of relieved.
