Drei Wochen gemeinsames Stadtradeln für Klima, Umweltschutz, Gesundheit mit unmittelbaren Begegnungen liegen hinter der Stadt Leer. 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲 Für die Einen eine Experiment verstärkt auf das Auto zu verzichten, für andere Alltag. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass hoffentlich viele Bürgerinnen und Bürger die Erfahrung gemacht haben: Mit dem Rad dauert es gar nicht länger und viele Wege sind wirklich wunderbar mit dem Rad zu erledigen. Als Bürgermeisterin, die auch ohne dreiwöchiges Stadtradeln bevorzugt das Auto stehen lässt und mit dem Rad fährt, waren diese Wochen wieder eine tolle Erfahrung so vielen Radlern zu begegnen, und in dieser Zeit auch gezielt Touren absolviert zu haben. Ein großer Dank an unseren gehörlosen Stadtradelnstar Lydia Niemeyer, die bei Wind und Wetter hunderte Kilometer geradelt ist, die Region erkundet hat und besondere Erfahrungen uns mitgeteilt hat – auch über ihren Blog, in dem sie ihre besonderen Erfahrungen als gehörlose Radlerin konnten wir ihr Engagement verfolgen. Danke an die Unterstützer, die mit wertvollen Preisen die Radler motiviert haben. Confession: I’ve always been extremely conscious about my smile. You will hardly find any pictures of me smiling with my teeth showing. Reason? That insanely irritating and never disappearing discolouration (damn you coffee!) yea it sucks! I must have tried every toothpaste brand promising white teeth available and I even tried bleaching them once but all in vain. Regular toothpaste is full of ingredients that can actually be harmful to your health (Ever wondered why toothpaste isn’t supposed to be swallowed?) Also some toothpastes contain decorative PLASTIC! It wasn’t until I stopped using regular toothpaste that I realised how synthetic it actually tasted and felt (who can blame us, we have been told to use it from the appearance of our first tooth). Our Boys & Girls Club’s Facilitated Learning Center currently has four socially distant classrooms with 10 students per room. Children follow their academic schedule, followed by after school activities after completing their schoolwork. Today, I had the chance to visit the Design Competition Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. This exhibit runs until late October and features 3D models, renderings and detailed submissions by three shortlisted design teams. Nova Scotians also have the opportunity to view and provide feedback on the three final conceptual designs for the new art gallery and waterfront arts district planned for Halifax. This project will be transformative not only for the Halifax Waterfront, but for the arts and culture sector itself. WHY RECYCLE WHEN YOU CAN REUSE? . . As a vegan cafe we go through quite a few milk cartons and unfortunately there is still no bulk packaging for plant based mylks (yet) ➡️ let’s keep pushing companies to provide some! . . We are now using our milk cartons as takeaway containers so we can give them a second life before being recycled. We’re hoping this can encourage more and more people & businesses to reuse and recycle as much as they can . . The best part of these cartons is that they are waterproof which is not only great for food but it also means they clean up perfectly! . . We will also purchase less takeaway packaging which has a great ripple effect on the resources used to produce and distribute takeaway packaging. . . Nos últimos anos, desde outubro de 2014 para ser mais precisa, eu conheci ainda mais forte essa dupla manifestada em uma tal Escola Schumacher Brasil. E de lá pra cá o que vivemos juntos é algo quase impossível de traduzir em palavras. Agora sinto na pele a dificuldade que muitos que passaram pela escola nos contavam: “eu não sei como explicar o que vivemos nesse curso”. Talvez pelo casamento tão bem feito entre conteúdo, prática, experiência, corpo, mão, mente e sentimentos. Talvez porque a beleza não é para ser explicada mesmo, e sim, sentida em cada poro, em cada sorriso, em cada bom dia, em cada discussão, em cada aprendizado. Longe de buscarmos um local sem riscos e ruídos, muito pelo contrário, acho que quanto mais verdade trazíamos mais necessidade de discutir e afinar o que fazíamos ali juntos como professores e amigos. Fecho o olho e fica difícil não chorar de saudades. Abro o olho e fico radiante pelo o que construímos e pelo o que segue firme e bonito nessa jornada da escola. Hoje a saudade invadiu meu dia, me preencheu, me levou para memórias inesquecíveis, para um mar de abraços e momentos...mas também me trouxe ainda mais para o presente. The world has been weighing heavy on my mind lately, but through all the craziness that’s been going on I have thought so much about FUMC of Fort Smith and the people of Guatemala. Earlier this year we went on a mission trip and I’m so thankful that we got to help the people that aren’t able to get dental and medical treatment until a missionary team visits. If you think the coronavirus is inconvenient for you, imagine what these people endure on a daily basis. Also, I have never met a church as welcoming and loving as FUMC in Fort Smith. It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of a very beloved business owner, Jennifer Specht from the Chancery Lane Co.. Jennifer died peacefully, following a brief illness, on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge. Jenny had been a part of the Downtown community since moving here with her family in 1959 when her parents opened their first business on the street - Maureens a ladies clothing store named after her mother. She grew up on the street and always called main street her playground. The love of retail was in her blood and she happily opened her first business - The Gingerbread House in 1995 and then later The Chancery Lane Co. Jenny was a staple on the street and greeted everyone with a smile and loved to converse with her customers and fellow business owners. We can honestly say she will truly be missed by all that were blessed enough to know her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this very difficult time. ONLINE STOREFRONT COMES TO TOWN’S BUSINESS WEBSITE Residents can now purchase local products from “L4A.ca” The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is excited to announce the launch of ‘Phase Two’ of our new business-oriented website L4A.ca – Everything Stouffville. On Friday, the website launched a new online shopping platform aimed at helping local businesses get their product information out the world, and to let customers buy online directly from them. “This is great addition to the website,” said David Tuley, Economic Development Officer of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and team lead. “Now when you visit the business directory, you can access their products directly from the business’s profile page.” The online shopping portion of the site, accessible by clicking ‘Shop’ in the main menu, allows users to surf by category or by a custom search. Each business has a complete profile, with all their contact information, photos, weekly specials, and social media links. The business directory is categorized into four major areas: Retail, Food, Services, and Health. The Town’s Economic Development Office is reaching out to every business weekly to update their messages about special sales, discounts or virtual offerings. All businesses in Whitchurch-Stouffville are eligible to be listed on the site. Each business will have an ambassador. The website is a work in progress and new businesses are added every day. Ministra da Agricultura recebe exemplar de cerveja produzida com lúpulo nacional - O Brasil importou no ano de 2018 a quantia de 3.362 mil toneladas de lúpulo a um valor de 55 milhões de dólares, segundo a @aprolupulolupulo. Durante muito tempo havia uma crença de que não era possível produzir lúpulo no país. Porém a implantação desta cultura promissora está se tornando realidade. Nesta quinta-feira, a ministra @terezacristinams recebeu um exemplar de uma cerveja produzida com lúpulos de Santa Catarina. Foram utilizadas na fabricação da cerveja flores de 2 produtores de Palmeira/SC, que possuem juntos em torno de 1.700 pés. A Secretaria de Agricultura Familiar e Cooperativismo do @mapa_brasil, em um Projeto de Cooperação Técnica com o @iicaoficial, contratou um estudo de viabilidade técnica e econômica da produção de lúpulo no país. O secretário Fernando Schwanke vê como uma boa oportunidade de diversificação da cultura na pequena propriedade rural, sendo um produto de alto valor agregado e excelente fonte de renda. Além disso, a formação de cooperativas de produtores para ganho de escala é fundamental para acessar o mercado das grandes cervejarias nacionais. O consultor técnico do IICA/MAPA, Stéfano Kretzer, entende que o cultivo de lúpulo em território nacional tem grande potencial, visto resultados positivos já obtidos, atrelado às boas condições de clima e solo, além da grande extensão territorial que há no Brasil. Mas, para isso, uma base solida consolidada com pesquisas, dados, tecnologias e políticas públicas são fundamentais. “Há diversas iniciativas pelo país, fomentando esta cultura promissora. Após a finalização de todo estudo, serão realizados eventos pelo país para divulgação, bem como a criação do Manual de Boas Práticas de Cultivo”, comenta o supervisor do estudo e chefe de gabinete da SAF, @gabriel.assmann83. 3 sustainable bathroom swaps from the past couple years...and I won’t go back!🌱: .1 - LOOFAH (sponge): This word is quite funny, but anyway I used to buy those plastic, netted, colorful sponges until I found natural loofahs (which have been around for a long time) made from tropical/subtropical gourd from the genus “Luffa”...so now you know where this funny word comes from 😉. This plant contains large networks of fibers in a tubular pattern creating a natural exfoliator. Looking back, it’s a bit strange to scrub your body with plastic, no? My loofah also has bamboo fabric as a hand holder which I love and it’s all recyclable! .2 - Bar soaps/shampoos/conditioners: These are so easy to find now that they’ve become quite trendy and honestly they work so well, often contain more natural products and are super handy for traveling .3 - Reusable makeup remover cloths: I used to buy those Neutrogena wipes or cotton pads which both contain plastic packaging. These cloths feel so much better on my skin, and they often come in a pack of more than one so while you wash one you still have another available. Depending on the material, some of these are also recyclable or biodegradable :) P.S. Melt the coconut oil, and mix in the milk, aquafaba and coconut sugar 2. Add in the remaining ingredients until a dough is formed, itll be slightly sticky 3. Leave your dough in the fridge for 30 minutes. Pre heat the oil for ~ 5 minutes in deep frying pan 4. Remove the dough from the fridge and add an extra 25g of flour (4 tbsp) if still sticky. Roll into small balls (4cm), poke a hole in the centre with your thumb (2cm) and fry on each side for ~ 1 minute until golden 5. Cool on paper towels. 6. Once cool, dunk into the cinnamon sugar coating and indulge. Our hearts are broken over the passing of co-founder and tireless promoter of Maplebrook Farm, Johann Englert. Johann started Maplebrook when she was 68 years old thinking it would be a fun project for her husband who had recently retired. She soon decided “he’s no good at it, so I have to do it myself!” Johann landed all of Maplebrook’s initial accounts, confidently walking into meetings with a basket of hand-made mozzarella and a smile. Later, she championed Maplebrook’s efforts in making traditional handmade Puglian burrata in the United States. She continued to work day in and out here in Bennington well into her 80s maintaining close relationships with the extended Maplebrook family and always ready with a card or a call for a customer or vendor birthday. She kept track of more information than the rest of us put together. Always the star of the show, she represented Maplebrook at the Fancy Foods Show, the Vermont Cheesemaker’s Festival and many more.
