Ordinary glass panels can act as solar panels when a layer of nanoparticles is sandwiched between two panes. This could help us take advantage of solar energy in cities where space for solar panels may be limited. . “If we’ve done our job, no one will even know that they’re there,” says Hunter McDaniel at UbiQD, a materials manufacturing firm in the US. He and his colleagues have developed transparent solar panels that are indistinguishable from regular glass. . Test installations, involving panels that are 1 square metre in size, are under way in buildings in the US and the Netherlands. The panels have a power conversion efficiency of 3.6 per cent, a measure of how much sunlight is converted into electricity. Opaque solar panels, in comparison, have efficiencies between 15 and 20 per cent. . These transparent panels are made from two layers of glass glued together with a polymer that contains nanoparticles known as quantum dots. With a core of copper indium sulphide and a shell of zinc sulphide, these quantum dots are tiny semiconductors that can manipulate light. . When the nanoparticles are excited by exposure to UV light, they release photons that travel along the transparent panel towards its edge. The perimeter is fitted with solar cells, which convert the photons into electrical current. “Let’s talk about ‘Periods’. Yes, you read it right! If a female cannot talk comfortably about her periods, how can we expect the society to? Fortunately, I am blessed with a family where I can freely talk about it, and dont have to keep my pain wrapped in a black polythene bag. This happened on a hot, humid afternoon in May. It was the first day of my 3rd COVID duty rotation. I was posted in a ward having 30 patients, some of them in critical condition. I donned my PPE, entered the ward, and started my routine work of checking patients. I was feeling a little bloated, and had a slight pain in my lower abdomen. Yes, I was nearing the end of my menstrual cycle and was ‘prepared’ for it; but, I was praying that my periods should not start during my 6 hour duty, since the PPE alone was enough to make one uncomfortable and dehydrated. Half an hour later, one of the patients started feeling breathless. As I got up from my chair and approached the patient, I realized that my periods said ‘hello!’ to me. I had sudden cramps in my abdomen- a situation all girls can relate to! I checked the vitals of the patient and tried to stabilize him. The patient was worsening… so were my cramps. Finding another resident doctor to replace me would have taken almost an hour, and wasted one more PPE. I didnt want to leave my patient unattended for such a long time. I told myself, ‘Ill bear the cramps’. After 15-20 minutes, the patient’s vitals improved; I went back to my chair, rested for a while and continued my duty. I had to endure the pain and bleeding for 5 out of the 7 days of duty. The scorching heat and the PPE, aggravated the discomfort. But, like all other female healthcare workers, I did my job. Girls, PMS and periods are tough. But were tougher, right? Functioning with pain makes us braver. Nos dias 20 e 21, a testagem será realizada no CEU Pimentas, localizado na estrada do Caminho Velho, 351. E nos dias 27 e 28 será no CEU Presidente Dutra, situado no final da rua Maria de Paula Motta. Para fazer o teste no mutirão não é necessário agendamento prévio, basta levar documento de identidade e cartão do SUS. A única restrição é não estar com síndrome gripal no dia do exame. No entanto, as pessoas que já tiveram contato com pacientes infectados pelo novo coronavírus também têm a opção de agendar o teste rápido nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde. O agendamento deve ser feito de forma presencial. उत्तराखंड में भले ही कोरोना संक्रमित मरीजों की तादाद रोजाना बढ़ रही है। लेकिन सक्रिय मामलों (एक्टिव केस) में ठहराव आया है। जिस तेजी के साथ संक्रमित मामले आ रहे हैं और मरीज ठीक हो रहे हैं। उससे सक्रिय मामले स्थिरता की ओर हैं। चंपावत जिले में कोरोना के मात्र तीन सक्रिय मामले हैं। प्रदेश में कोरोना संक्रमितों का आंकड़ा 1900 पार कर गया है। पिछले दो सप्ताह में ठीक होने वाले संक्रमित मरीजों की संख्या में तेजी आई है। इलाज के बाद घर लौटे मरीजों की संख्या 1200 पहुंचने वाली है। वहीं, सक्रिय मामले 680 हैं। वर्तमान में जिस गति से संक्रमित मामले आ रहे हैं, उसी गति से रोजाना संक्रमित मरीजों को अस्पताल से घर भेजा जा रहा है। अपर सचिव स्वास्थ्य युगल किशोर पंत का कहना है कि संक्रमित मामले आने के बाद भी प्रदेश की रिकवरी और डबलिंग दर में सुधार हुआ है। रिकवरी दर बढ़ने से कोरोना के सक्रिय मामले स्थिरता की ओर हैं। - @news_uttrakhand_official on Instagram

By the looks of it, I was probably taking 30 seconds just to set myself up to do confrontation fields 🙌🏻 I used to really dislike this photo. It reminds me of how anxious I used to be in clinic with preceptors watching over you, trying to perform the exam as fast as I could without missing any retinal holes or hemes, while trying to answer the clinical questions that your preceptor is throwing at you randomly. Something I can proudly say after finishing fellowship is that I’m not scared of the vitrector anymore! I used to dread the “V” word, but now I actually even enjoy the noise the machine makes 😅 I think the most important part here is to remember that even with a PCR, patients are going to do just fine if we keep calm. Stop, assess the situation, breath, and don’t forget to inject viscoelastic before you come out with your instruments! I know I am lucky to have had amazing mentors who taught me well but there are lots of great resources available for free online! 🔹Tres mujeres que tenían Covid-19 fallecieron en las últimas horas en la región| El día de hoy, Magallanes tuvo la segunda cifra más alta de casos nuevos de la enfermedad desde que comenzó la pandemia con 271 nuevos confirmados y a nivel nacional sólo nos superó la Región Metropolitana. Los indicadores de la pandemia en Magallanes siguen siendo trágicos. En contagios solo la comuna de Río Verde se mantiene sin casos hasta el momento. Desde el inicio de la pandemia llevamos 8.355 casos en total de coronavirus y más de la mitad se notificaron en este mes.
