I love a nostalgic heirloom houseplant - a friend shared these two Angel Wing Begonia cuttings with me after he became the adopted caregiver of the enormous mother plant. The original plant lived for decades with an elderly lady, but after she could no longer care for it, my friend took it in, and has been propagating cuttings to return to members of the family as smaller, more compact clones of their grandmother’s massive Begonia. I feel honored to have a clone of it as well, and have been excited to watch the roots sprout - it’s going to get potted up soon, and I’m looking forward to growing it up to the dramatic tall form it’ll take on over time. Already trying to bloom, these classic cane Begonias are great plants for sharing, and I love thinking that someday it might be an heirloom plant in my own family. The first albo monstera that I bought pretty much at the start of my plant parenthood journey! Swipe to see how it used to look like when I first got it 🙃. I remembered how nervous I was when I purchased it because it was the most expensive plant I’ve ever spent money on (it was way cheaper than the current price of a Pink Princess Philodendron plus fully rooted). Coupled with my inexperience at that time 😅 but no regrets. Several ugly leaves and pests later, with bright light and a potting media of potting soil, bark, perlite and charcoal... safe to say, she has glowed up! To anyone looking for albos especially those who are starting to just get into plants, I would suggest looking for something that is rooted. We had a huge reaction to an Instagram story we shared. @mcdouglasphotography shared his new branches from his fiddle leaf fig. So how did he do it?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here is what his process was: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He cut off the top, at a 45 degree angle, just above a node and rooted it in water for a few weeks, maybe a month or so. Then repotted the little one. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The large one then put out two tiny buds which started out slowly then took off into new branches with buds!! Et Voilá!! My favourite syngonium! I have literally searched and searched and searched for this plant almost everywhere. I visited my local nurseries n number of times and also checked online... at one point I thought, let’s forget about this. I am not going to get upset because of this ‘one’ plant. And then two weeks back, I came across this beautiful home with this gorgeous hanging down from a pot hung on a tree and I thought... let’s just ask the owner where they got this plant from. While to some, they might be difficult to care for, however once you get the hang of it, String of Hearts Succulent is one of the most tolerant houseplants. . . GENERAL CARE Light and Temperature String of Hearts Plant like heat and bright light but they don’t tolerate direct sunlight. They can beplaced indoor in South or West facing window with a lot of light and if outdoor, they can be in bright shade area. One of the easier ways to see if they get sufficient light is to see the color of the leaf and the gaps between leaves: String of Hearts leaves will be wider apart and lighter in color with less marbling if the plant needs more light. . . Water Chain of Hearts water need is just like other succulents, so make sure you give them a good soak after the soil is completely dried out from the last watering. In the winter, the plants need even less water than summer. Fertilizer String of Hearts only need infrequent fertilizers and half-diluted fertilizers. They can be fed at most once a month during their active growth period in May – August. They don’t need any fertilizer during winter, their dormant period. . . But, Staghorn fern has never been my victim... at least not yet! Staghorn ferns need bright, indirect or diffused light to thrive, though they must be protected from the harsh rays of the direct sun. Water them by both misting and soaking the plant. These ferns are epiphytes, which means that they grow on other plants or trees in their natural growing environments. Following on from yesterdays calisia pink panther post, heres a closeup of the other pot. Despite getting more light, the older leaves have turned green. I suspected it was due to spidermites as I started seeing spotting on the leaves before this happened. Does anyone know if this is the case? Ladies and gentlemen and the lgbtq+ community, I present to you the one and only queen- dragooooon, the keeper of the magnificent leaves, winner of my heart, lady of the bestest abs 😍SWIPE to see how she looked like not even 2 weeks ago! I was trying my best to get all the leaves in the photo buuuut you can’t properly see the size of all the leaves are they’re facing different directions now 😅 perhaps as they get older and heavier they will face the front a little more so I can show you guys the coolest dragon scale everr 😍 🌱humidity: 60% (if you can provide higher humidity levels, they won’t complain) 🌱my soil mix: indoor plant soil with 20% perlite and 20% bark 🌱Watering: keep the soil moist, don’t let the plant sit in water though. We don’t want any root rot. Add some more bark and perlite to the mixture if you tend to overwater(especially important for baby dragon scales) 🌱Light: bright indirect light 🌱Temperature: 15-28 deg Celsius (they go dormant in winter and stop growing) 🌱Pests: very prone to pests like aphids, spider mites, mealy bugs etc. wipe down the leaves regularly to avoid infestation. You can use plain water too if you don’t really have pests. Whenever I want to propagate my Philodendron hederaceum Micans I just place it in a clear box and close the box for a week. Make sure to open the box once a day for a few minutes. Caladiums really know how to Show Off! I absolutely live for the growing season. * * * Journal : This year I’ve challenged myself with Caladium and Coleus (last post.) I’ve only ever grown these plants outdoors. I’m pleasantly surprised at how tolerant Caladium is inside. It’s super pretty, but demanding. I’m having to turn it often. It needs a lot of indirect bright light. I had moved all of my plants for about a week from SW facing window to NW facing windows. The caladium got leggy. Soil: 6” Nursery pot, original soil. It’s getting kind of big. I might go up to 8”. Water: it seems happiest when watered frequently but I haven’t let it sit in water. Light: the brighter the better, but if you’re going to put them in sun only a little morning sun would be ok. This plant has to be rotated! Fertilizer: 1 x a month, just fertilized last weekend. That might be why it’s so perky! I’m going to fertilize again in 2 weeks. Satin Pothos - Scindapsus pictus argyraeus. How do you say the last word? Why are scientific names so hard to pronounce sometimes?! - - - Journal: I love this plant. It is about 30 inches tall! I’ve been growing this plant for 18 months now. First I put it on a shelf and allowed it to trail. Then I got curved bamboo, put them in the pot and pulled the vines over the hoops. There are 3 hoops in one pot. You can buy them at the dollar store. Soil: 8” nursery pot inside a basket, has a flimsy plastic saucer in the basket. It is potted in Fox Farms Happy Frog amended with perlite. 4:1. The soil is rich and dense and the plant seems to love it. I rarely have leaf curl or yellowing. Watering: this plant complains about being dry by slightly curling the leaves I water it a little bit every couple of weeks. I’d say I let the top 1-2” soil dry out between waterings. Time between which varies. Fertilizer: I fertilized 10 days ago, I’m going to do it again this coming weekend. Maxsea Grow by Gen.Hydro. 10-5-14. Light: this is one of my low light plants. 🌱humidity: prefers relatively high humidity. If you can manage to have a constant humidity at min 60% or more, you’ll make this guy very happy 💚 🌱soil mix: I use normal indoor plant soil mix and add around 20% perlite, topping it off with a layer of clay granules 🌱watering: make sure to never leave this guy dry. They love having a constantly moist soil. If you overwater, the leaves will start yellowing at the tips. If you tend to overwater, I recommend adding more perlite or bark to the mixture. 🌱 light: do not leave in direct sun as this will burn the leaves. Indirect but bright sunlight is the best! Update on this little anthurium! It was so happy in my edmonton apartment and ive been struggling to keep the leaves from yellowing here in calgary. After some research I think it is because I have been giving it too much light so this guy is being moved again to a nee tank. 🌿Любимец🌿 А точнее любимица - пеперомия бурбелла♥️ Люблю все растюхи, но особенно 💚 пеперомии😌 Первый раз увидела это чудное растение пару лет назад и сразу же влюбилась... это были жатые зеленые листочки с одной стороны, и красные с обратной, чем-то напоминающее подорожник😅 но намного интереснее! Пеперомия россо - но тогда эти слова мне не о чем не говорили, я даже не знала, что это пеперомия. Но однозначно хотела завести себе этого красавчика😍. Но, там где нашла, в наличии не было, а продавец игнорировал все сообщения и комментарии. Вот и осталось мне любоваться только на картинке. Но спустя время, случайно увидела растение на рынке возле дома. Не задумываясь, я забрала домой пеперомию россо и пару других сортов😉 Счастью не было предела! Начала изучать все о них, и тут понеслось...🙈🙈😁 Сейчас в моей коллекции 17 сортов, но это не предел 😉 А украшение коллекции - бурбелла. Как увидела, срочно начала искать, но на данный момент это редкий сорт, и найти было очень проблематично.
