When do you need to know how to draw in perspective? When drawing a landscape? Geometry? Architecture? Many people underestimate the importance of perspective when drawing a portrait. When you can nail the perspective, the head feels very solid, it feels three dimensional, it become very clear how it exists in space. When the perspective is off, the head loses its structure, and can even become distorted and weird looking.
